Moron Jinghe!!!π ππI don't recall the novel as well as you do. It wasn't even the best of novels so I…
I called him that because he deserved it. I exactly went to find the novel because this drama is not up to my expectation. I wanted to see a morally questionable male lead for a change but naaahh. Didn't happen.
By the way, thank you so much for your compilation of OSTs. Currently listening to Fangs of Fortune now. finger hearts***
The "this drama was by a wide margin, the biggest disappointment of the year" is so accurattteeeee! A WIDE MARGIN. Cool casting but not cool rewriting.
They should have followed the original characterization in the novel. Jinghe should have stayed a selfish, arrogant, and overly annoying main lead. He should have stayed the red flag of the century - one you hate with passion. He was supposed to be in love with the equally annoying luomei who liked to play hard to get with him. Ohhh the list of things he did to Meilin that made me wanna castrate him. And his redeeming shift in the end. He became one of the legendary kings - having kept only Meilin in his harem.
Meilin, on the other hand, is an untainted character despite being a part of the hellish secret factory. There's no one who loved life as much as she did. I love how pure she was - not hating Moron Jinghe despite his ingratitude, not hating luomei even if she is her rival, or not hating her mom or the world for its cruelty. When Moron jinghe betrothed her to Qing Yan, she only asked for the antidote so she could be free from the gu poison. She even understood why jinghe wanted to marry luomei when she realized he aimed for the throne. It was at the end part where she wanted to be selfish for once and kill luomei so jinghe will be sad. But until then, her desire for life was very admirable. We can only talk further as long as there is life. Such thought really is wholesome.
In this series of plot holes, both characters were butchered huhuhu. And the plot - was way different. They shouldn't have mentioned that this was an adaptation since they went out and made this their own anyway. The main conflict was changed. Where did that fire come from? Stupid fire. They even omitted Gentleman Wu and the King of Cangzong in the Stone Forest.
Is there a chance they readapt? Hahahaha. This was really unreasonable. I grieve with everyone here.
That was very detailed of you. I agree with most of the parts: acting, ost, cinematography (i like this storytelling), and make-up (I don't like them being pale but the powder is obvious and the paleness isn't consistent on the face and neck π).The intricate exploration of their relationships was also helpful! But yeah. I'm not as satisfied as I would have wanted. Mind going into detail on the plot though? Because that was the ughhh part for me. And that was the part that couldn't sustain my interest for it. Also, what do you think of Li Lun's character as a villain? He was nothing more but annoying!
I am at Episode 24 now. Ask me how I reached this far? I multitasked - split screen at its finest. Now that I have a bit of a spare time, I came here to find what people are saying! And I got so distraught to see that it scored 8.8. Everyone at the top comments all scored 10/10. Now you know why I am here because that was a stunning 7.5. Maybe I'd give it an 8 but I would like to know where this 7.5 is stemming from.
OK! I started this out of boredom and got hooked instantly from ep 1-3. Then, I had to watch it further because I saw Cheng Lei at the opening video and yesssss I have to see him (after MJTY). Then, somewhere along the way I thought, this is getting a bit too repetitive. Li Lun possesses someone. That someone dies. He possesses another then dies. He spits blood. Repeat. I can't wait for him to die. My annoyance level grew exponentially. So, when he finally "died", I had no other thought but, thank God, moving on. Then, he came back again, and I so wanna kill him so bad. Here's what I think about his character. He's that WHINNNNNNYYYYYYY friend who wanted to kill his ex-best friend for having new friends. Now he wants to kill those friends too. What a baby! He better decide what he's gonna do, kill everyone, settle with ex bestfriend, or disappear. Stop annoying ppl here.
Plot- At first, it was interesting because this is my first encounter of the Wilderness and a deeper probe to demonology. Then, I realized, yeah. This was another scam. There was no real story to begin with. With all the backs and forths, there was really nothing to see. Now, if you're telling me the ending was so bad, I might drop it all too or continue to multitask.
Visuals - Ok, I'm with you! One word - stunning! Except for the overly-powdered face. Ehhhh. Nooo. Sometimes the face and neck colors don't match.
Music - Also top level!!!! Gotta save the playlist.
I have a friend who said - just watch it. I caaannntttttt!!! At least without whining about LiLun. But I secretly think she's just watching it because of the aesthetics hahaha. We don't have the same standards, girl. This is murdering my standard of a good plot.
Now that I found you both, should I continue watching it? huhu
cheng lei's really out there outserving all cdrama men like he has no business always wearing zesty masks and…
saaammmeeeeeeee! i met him first in MJTY. He didn't look like a second lead. Every entrance is majestic. His presence is feared! He's soooo dashing. I loved his interaction with Sangqian as well! I hope they could have had more screen time. πππ
Yes it's very good. The female lead (Li Shuang) is a general and she has the same character vibe as Shen Li .…
I want to join but I don't think I want to spoil myself. Although it could save a lot of time (because hey, 30 plus episodes to get a flop), I'll watch it because it's Cheng Lei plus Song Yi together! Never knew I needed this couple this bad! π«Άπππ
But I do look forward to the changes in the drama that you said. We needed to see more of Ao Deng and the more conscious side of Jin An. But I hope his straightforward and naive character remains. π He's such an interesting character. ππ Plus everything on Cheng Lei. Looking forward to himmmmmmmmmmm
Looking forward to his Legend of the Female General too. But knowing the plot of this and his character in the novel plus considering that Song Yi is his partner here, my anticipation for this is greater! πππ
I just finished reading the novel and I got blindsided by the ending lol. I mean it felt too short. Maybe because…
I just finished it too. You're right! It was way too short. We got the climax at the final episode. π And I was so pissed because she was dead. Every novel seems to end this way, pointless death! Then of course she resurrected.
Now I'm quite worried about the adaptation. π΅βπ« Why are there so many characters left out like Qin Lan and Luo Teng. Why is Li Ting a general and not an idle nobleman? Why is there a sima li? Why is Lu Xin a main character? I think they made her the general's personal bodyguard to match the other dramas that have female bodyguards. It's good Wu Yin is there huhu. He cannot be removed. Looking forward to their banters. π
Crossing my fingers that they do the story justice. Yes, changes are expected but please don't be as disappointing as kill me love me. πππ Close the gaps of the novel. Stun us! Do Cheng Lei baobei justice ππππ
One word to describe the trailer - CRAZY!!! I dont think I ever saw such amazing trailer. Song Yi looks cool as…
Song Yi is a good choice. I know she is usually soft-spoken, but this affectionate side is needed as in the novel, she is affectionate.
And yeah. No need to talk about Ryan because if we start, we won't end. Should we start with his hair? πππ In the drama, we will see more of his skin. Haha. Then we will have more to talk about. π
If anybody knows any more translated novels similar to the one this drama is based on please let me know tyty…
She also wrote The Rebirth of An Ill-Fated Consort. I must say that is better than the Rebirth of the Malicious Empress or maybe the translation was better haha. Anyhow, I didn't finish the rebirth of the ill-fated Consort, but you may check. She also wrote the rebirth of the di daughter (the double). She has 2 more but i forgot as they're in Chinese! she's awesome!
Hey, sis or sir. I came especially to respond to your comment! π I super-duper agree with you on the flop of changing the whole narrative to plot holes. I was promised the same thing which I didn't get. I was like ok let's give it a chance to see where this was going, then realized no no no it's a different story. I came back to my dramalist to recheck the summary, but they changed it. I was utterly disappointed. So, I went to find the original novel and found it and loved it (despite the imperfect translation). There, you'll find the super duper red flag male lead (like you will hate him to his bones and wish castration and infertility to befall him) But you will also treasure the super duper lovable female lead. You will love MeiLin more and appreciate life more once you get to know her perspective. You will hate moron jinghe with a passion, but you will know his intentions in the end. πππ I swear, the time you spend binge-reading will be super-duper worth it.
Take the bravest steps you could ever take today! Find it π«°π«Ά.
Seeing your comment, I think I won't continue watching the series now. π
