I agree! the most recent Heaven sword was pretty good... Yuqi Chen was a very good Zhao Ming and kinda carry that show. As for the other adaptations... I did drop like 2 them... the 2009 version of heavenly sword and the 2014 version of ROCH. I'll be honest with you... I don't understand China obsession with CGI...
First of all... theirCGI are light years behind any hollywood movies... just plain bad really....so it only make the shows kinda cringe... Second.... those CGI are the reason that those show are going to age soooo freaking badly...beside this is wuxia not xianxia...
The 80's TVB shows are soo good and aged soo well exactly for the same reasons... no garbage CGI... only pure acting and amazing stunts!

As I stated before... I'm a huge fan of the condor saga... To be honest I really don't mind all of the remakes over the years...I've watched them all... I also tried to avoid comparing them to the 80's version from HK TVB... because.... well because those for me are just in a class of their own... and that way I can enjoy all those remakes as they were meant to be.... just entertainment...
I really think Jin Yong's work are pretty much the Shakespeare of Asia... Legend of condor heroes first publication was in 1957... that is 67 years ago... and nowadays... there are still TV series, movies, books, video games, ect... about them...His works will still exist long after I'm gone... They are just that good!!!
The joust for the spouse 比武招亲 is always one of my favorite scenes in this series. Its amazing though how…

Barbara still the best Huang Rong Felix is still the best Guo Jing Michael Miu is still by far the best Yang Kang Mu Nianci has a couple good version over the years... The five great.... 1983 version hand's down.... Zhou Botong was just too good as well as Huang Yaoshi
I do like this Huang Rong.... she's probably the second best. But Barbara.... good lord she was born for this role.
Currently at episode 6... and it's not looking good... Male lead is annoying as hell with his obsession with the cup... and his arrogance... Female lead is annoying as hell with her wishy washy attitude. The instructor is annoying as hell because he needs a spine and be a man about the whole situation....
So you see the trend so far.... none of the main characters are appealing to me so far... The brother of the FL seems to be the only character I kinda like...
We'll see how this goes with a couple more episode... but so far I remain unconvinced...
I finish the entire serie for a second time now. I still think this is the best historical drame we've got in the last 5-6 years. "Legend of Yun Xi" in 2018 was pretty good and " The king's woman" 2017 was also decent.... but "The Double" is still miles ahead of them.
I've been playing the entire OST on loop all day for the last few days too. Well now the million dollar question... shall I watch it again for a third time? :)
Did he die to free her or to save himself from embarrassment/ treason?
He threw himself off the tower... and died... that was the perfect ending for a rat really... The best revenge is always indifference... she just walk away and never looked back...fitting et satisfying :)
yes! probebly the best costume drama i've seen since 2017
That's the thing... I found LLTG a little too long and draggy at time for me... also I much prefer the chemistry between the lead in The Double than the one in LLTG...again it's all about taste :)
For me the TVB at the 80's was the BEST Jin Yong Adaptation. Except for the Laughing in The Wind, I like the 1996…
TVB produced some time transcending series over the years for sure...Till this day whenever I rewatch "return of the condor heroes"... my heart still fluffer whenever I see Idy Chan.
I'm Lucky enough to own all condor heroe Saga from the 80's on dvds :) I basically rewatch them at least once a year :)

Agreed! The return of the condor Heroes 1983 with Andy Lau and Idy Chan is my all time favorite.... No one have ever come close to Andy Lau as Yang Guo and no one will ever replace Idy Chan as Xiao Long Nu...
Back in the days... no silly CGI... just raw talents. The musics oh my god the musics... there's a reason why 4 generations (so far) all know these classic songs...
They just don't make them as good anymore...

Euh anyone have any idea how to get those? Must addd to collection :)
This seems to be a remake of the classic " Legend of the condor Heroes".... I'll probably give this a try.... but fair warning.... over the years, I lost count of how many remakes of this classic from Jin Yong they have make.... and I have pretty much watched them all because The condor hero saga is one of my favorite of all time Yang Guo story being my favorite.
For me, since 1980 till now "The legend of condor heroes 1983" with Felix Wong and Barbara Yung is in a class of its own.... none of the remake come even close to that one...
