One of the major things I disliked in S2 was that everyone paired up and became a couple. it turned a really good slice of life into an ok romance drama imo.
This and the tag analysis series by 3GGG is one of my favorite article series to read. very informative, and in some parts; horizon-broadening. Thank you and looking forward to reading more of your editorials.
I have just one reminder. As we are mostly talking about dramas you are kind of taking a spectator pov, and in that, I agree that women are faced with more criticism and negative reactions. But for the persons in that abusive relationship or situation, men are not less affected then women.
I hope you find some subject you are more passionate about for your next article.
At least for me; this read like you were kinda forced or tricked into writing this and you feel the subject is beneath you. I did not understand why you were comparing 2 titles you did not like or very critical about.
Thank you for the novel recommendations except one. I checked novelupdates for the Counterattack of the Cannon Fodder Chambermaid and and its hard pass after looking at its tags.
I do not like Kim Eun Sook. Me not liking her is not for the reasons you listed, but for one main reason only. I do not like how she writes women. Even her lead females are much much less than their male counterparts. Her female leads are always written as arm candy and as means to make male shine more and with much inconsistency. Take Gil Ra Im in secret garden. Here we have a bad ass character who kicks ass from monday to sunday, wipes floor with professional athletes and when our flimsy ML comes and holds her wrist to drag her outside? She resists but was not successful. Please!
P.S. I wrote a lot more about Kim Eun Sook but then thought why should I write good things about someone I don't even like, but they are already written so.. I will DM them to you hahahha.
I think @Kate told it best; her works are great to introduce someone new to kdramas.
After finishing You Are My Glory, I started this because it was recommended as a very similar drama.
I just finished episode 6 and I can't really understand how they thought this one is similar to that. All I could think about was this drama must have been written by chuunibyous. Dance off during a limited entry, seemingly elite gathering? ML that can do anything and better than everyone at that? Game scenes that are clearly written for ML flex and nothing else?
I heard game scenes are reduced/gone towards the end, how soon is it?
I like that FL is written as no nonsense solid character, and I like that ML is written as consistent (tho extremely mary/marty sue) and loyal but that's about it.
Should i continue?
P.S. I am not bashing your tastes if you liked it, more power to you. I am not looking for an argument, or confrontation. I just want to know if this drama is for me or not.
it is ridiculous that women are expected to lead a "modest" life after getting married. She was a good actor (only know her from dramas/movies no idea about her singer or idol identity) and she was only 32. I am happy she is getting married, and that she is happy, but I am sad that we are losing another brilliant actor.
Hi, I read this part when I saw your part 2 and I must say it was a little disappointing.
First; I watched all of these except angels last love and they are all great examples of strong role models (imo) of women in dramas who break societies expectations.
But I felt quite surprised when I read your comment on the first drama, it's ok to not be ok. For an article that is supposed to celebrate these women, to embrace these women and their actions, your comment, for me, was less than desirable
Seeing their last collaboration was back in 2001 I guess it is understandable, but my head cannon dearly wished I could have seen Stephen Chow to be present among the people during his passing. He was a great contributor on making a lot of Stephen Chow's movies great and not seeing SC there left a bitter taste.
Thank you! @RomanceTVLover, @herah, and to anyone who does not see anything wrong with this;It is not always about…
I stand corrected. A deeper google search showed me it is not illegal. It turns out only attorney/client relations were illegal. Doctor/patient one is seen as unethical but not illegal, and lecturer/student one is.. as you said, not even unethical, it is just discouraged.
Now, as for your advice in your OAN; I will not watch this. I was in the comments because this was one of the higher rated cdramas (not a movie) of 2020 and I wanted to see the appeal so I checked synopsis, reviews and comments.
Right now I consider you a troll, but just in case, if you genuinely want to know why I bother; the same drive that makes you read/write about things you like makes me read/write about things I do not like. I like to understand why people like things I do not like, and sometimes I also like to share my pov.
Bruh student teacher should stop being romanticized this shit is creepy and illegal af nope nope nope
Thank you!
@RomanceTVLover, @herah, and to anyone who does not see anything wrong with this; It is not always about age. It is definitely illegal to date someone underage, but it is also illegal to date/have sexual relations with YOUR students when you are a teacher/lecturer, YOUR patients when you are a doctor, YOUR clients when you are a lawyer etc.
I always felt it is creepy and very predator-y when someone is interested in their students, patients, clients etc and really hate when dramas or movies romanticize these situations.
Any opportunity to buff up my already "full" plan to watch list? Sign me up!
Thank you, this was a good article. I was looking for interesting/good Chinese titles and I only know 2 titles from this list so lot's of options here.
it seems it is fairly hard for a new person to come into kdrama scene, seeing it took her 3 years after a fairly successful title (going by mdl ratings).
I wonder how much of that difficulty is because she is woman.
I don't like when twists are introduced for the sole purpose of having a twist, without adding anything meaningful to the story, without making the story better.
I hate it when; to introduce a twist, they change the characters (their personalities, pov to certain things, the way they think, act, their mannerisms etc) to suit the situation.
A good planned and executed twist adds to the story, a badly written or planned twist just breaks the immersion and even the story.
I used to love mentalist, before it got too long and started to get worse and worse each season.
I also like LSY and still fondly remember her acting in dramas like sweet home, guardians and wild romance. Her later dramas seems too dark/heavy/serious compared to mentalist, but with a good script I think this can be good. Not sure about PSH tho, I don't much like him. To be frank I rather LSY play patrick jane than him.
it is a story from 2013, where someone reported him for rape. Because several days passed before the alleged rape, there were no or not enough evidence. it kinda turned into he said she said kind of situation. I do not know what happened in the end or who was right. you can google if you want details.
Looking forward to your take on atypical female leads.
