He first tries to use the emergency lane but I can argue almost everyone does it once or twice so it's not a problem. But…
I even considered if in this series Luo Ben was a transmigrator or a reincarnator or something like that. Like the character knows he is the main protagonist and everything he does will turn out fine.
I watched 4 episodes and I am not sure if I should continue or not. The way character Luo Ben acts in this feels..…
He first tries to use the emergency lane but I can argue almost everyone does it once or twice so it's not a problem.
But then he is lead to a suicide situation and proceeds to go and talk with the person, not even trying to talk her down, just generally being antagonistic like how she signed the contract and they have a verbal agreement on video so she is wrong and this suicide act is futile etc. His heart I feel is in the right place, he is doing some tough love but that is not how you talk to a person in that kind of situation. He is a lawyer and he should know what the ramifications of that might be. seems pretty dumb.
During the earthquake he is continuously acts contrary to the rescue professionals. Even worse, he clearly has knowledge about those kind of situations so he should know the damage he could cause. Generally during the earthquake scenes he acts as if he is the highest authority even tho he is there as a civilian. He did not volunteer or anything, just acts as he likes.
Also that credit card scene in front of school. What was that? Who even gives their credit card to a random person and says "build this school again with this". Are writers that dumb? A scene where he promises to handle all cash to re-build school: golden. A scene where he gives his credit card to someone who claims to be mayor to re-build a school: completely crazy.
You gave the story a 6 and music a 7 but overall score 10/10 for the movie? Makes no sense.
I can't really explain without deeply spoiling the movie. When I watched the first third of the movie, I was like meh, this is a sub par zombie movie.. And frankly, if I was alone and knew nothing of the movie, I would have dropped it right then and there. But when I passed a certain point, I was shocked at what fun I am having, and as the movie progressed, I started to find the parts I previously named meh to be incredible.
in my mind if you need to watch something long enough to find it good, then it is not a good story, good progression. So yes, I had a lot fun, and find this movie unique, and really not sure if it could be done better.. but still I gave story a 6.
As for music; I am not a person who is very into tonal or harmony. As long as something doesn't have jarring music in a scene I am ok. I do not remember music being an integral or an important part of composition, and I don't remember it being too bad; so a 7.
it's been too long and I do not like the fact that they announced a sequel right away but I am learning Ko Ja Yun not being a main part just now.
4 years and this kind of false advertising reduced my hype and potential fun even before I saw the movie. I just hope that this was planned and not just because the artist Kim Da Mi is too famous for the budget or something like that, and we will see a good movie and not one of those movies just made for money grab using the first movies fame.
I've started watching asian dramas around 20 years now, so I expected to be one of the ahjummas, but it turns out I am too jaded and confrontational to be one.
And I for real felt envy while reading newbies. Ah how I wish I could feel that fresh and positive again.
wannabe asian related by drama reporting for duty..
I am not spoiler tagging as this is one of cliches of dramas.
ML started lying to FL from episode 1, and was still lying to her on E23 where I dropped it. They frame it as "he is trying to keep FL from worrying" but this completely takes agency from FL.
I tried watching this last year and smacking lips, eating, chewing etc sounds prevented me to finish first episode. I can't even deal with ASMR (mouth) videos.
I heard good things about this drama but with a name like sweet teeth I am a little scared to try again. Are there a lot of scenes like that in this drama? Can I ff first episode and be safe afterwards?
just a little psa: uninformed consent is not consent and consent of one thing doesn't automatically mean consent…
I agree, consent needs to be clear. Unfortunately not everyone reacts to same things the same way or understands the same things, and that makes body language and facial expressions sometimes problematic. I 100% agree that context is important, but that context must be communicated between parties and agreed upon. This communication can be verbal, body language or something else but the main point is you have to be certain it is understood by both parties.
I apologize if I sound like I am nitpicking, but this is really important. Some people are really bad at reading social cues or body language . If you lean in to someone with your intent to kiss practically radiating your whole body and the person you are leaning in to doesn't react, you need to know if they consent or practically frozen from fear or confusion because in some cases they might seem very similar. I know some ADHD people are very bad at understanding body language, and different cultures have very different norms so depending on the person, same facial expression can mean different things.
good points. I feel they are universal enough that it can cover all medias not just chinese dramas. From what little titles I've seen, I feel chinese dramas do family and friendship really good.
I am with you on all these points. well maybe except getting drunk and one night stand trope thing. I feel they are ok unless linked with other stuff; like drunk-driving or one night stands while in a relationship etc.
I don't know what is meant by consent in this article. While someone asking if they can kiss you etc is sometimes…
just a little psa: uninformed consent is not consent and consent of one thing doesn't automatically mean consent of other things. When you accept to go to dinner with someone, doesn't mean a social contract that they implied consent to things that may follow. consenting to a person invading personal space (leaning in) doesn't mean consent to a kiss.
Netflix is ruining what k-dramas are. They release all episode at once, and end the drama with unsatisfying damn…
I agree with you that the reason I first got interested in kdramas (asian dramas in general) was that the ones I started watching first were strictly a single season dramas. I loved that I was able to watch a coherent story to its completion in one season with no cliffhangers and I did not have any anxiety whether something I love was going to be ruined the more seasons the writers tried to extend. Now that I watched and learned a lot more compared to then, I know now that some asian dramas are also multiple season dramas, that some (even single season ones) also have cliffhangers. Still.. I am not very happy with netflix dramas in terms of writing or storytelling.
But there is one fact that I am very happy about. Netflix made asian dramas exponentially more accessible for me. A lot more streaming services learned? the value of asian dramas and now most streaming services have multiple dramas, they even finance or produce dramas themselves. This is a good thing; We can find a lot more dramas compared to before.

The way character Luo Ben acts in this feels.. scuffed/bonkers.
