how’s the novel?
I'm only in the beginning, but Ren Yaoqi is a likeable heroine and she's very smart. There's a lot of scheming involved and complex dynamics in the household—especially between the wives, elders, husbands, siblings, and servants. It reminds me of Story of Minglan and Blossom in many ways. It's also one of those stories where the heroine is doing everything she can to save those she loves. The trailer for the drama was certainly interesting though.

I'm curious to see how they will adapt it from the novel because it is LONG. Since this will only be 40 episodes, I assume that the director and author will condense it to a shorter format. Maybe combine scenes from Ren Yaoqi's childhood and her as a young woman? Who knows, but I am really excited for this drama and can't wait until it airs! This definitely gives Blossom vibes because it's also a rebirth drama but the heroine isn't exactly invincible. She's just really smart, clever, and uses her brains lol.

This drama keeps exceeding my expectations because it's being adapted so faithfully! Episode 12 was absolutely perfect and I happily screamed out loud when Duan Xu promised his past, future, and basically his entire being that he would never betray or hurt He Simu. Oh my goodness, and his confession to Chenying?! These events all happened in the novel. It's like I'm seeing my favorite scenes come to life before my eyes. They're both so perfect as He Simu and Duan Xu!

We all clearly have different opinions on "story-telling" and "well-acted." I did watched PoJ,…
Sorry, but it feels like you're nitpicking a bit? The camerawork, acting, writing, and plot development in LBtG are all fine to me. It looks like a normal historical fantasy drama. PoJ's director did Blossom—of course it's going to look beautiful.

I'm also using genre as an example to say that it's not fair to compare the two. Anyway, we have different opinions. I'm just here to watch and discuss the drama.

Started to watch 1ep.... So far it is poor story telling and not very well acted. I am not sure I can handle it…
We all clearly have different opinions on "story-telling" and "well-acted." I did watched PoJ, but I personally thought the story and character development fell off a cliff in the second half. The screenwriting did not follow the original work and made a lot of frustrating changes.

I think it's completely fair to not like a drama, but to compare it with another drama that's currently airing and in a different genre is not. It's closely following the novel while also making tweaks/changes that actually expand the world and characters.

And the minor tweak they have done with bite scene, has actually elevated that scene so much 😍
Exactly! They didn't take away anything, they just made it better or tweaked it to expand the lore. It even added scenes to show how Duan Xu was coping during this time lol. Episode 10 gave me a lot of laughs and smiles. I already love these two so much! It's great to see Duan Xu and He Simu be so happy.

I'm so glad they adapted this and chose Dilraba to play He Si mu. I just watched ep 1, and correct me if I'm wrong…
It's true that Duan Xu in the drama doesn't laugh or smile as much as I would have liked, but I'm fine with his smiles and smirks. He's still very mischievous, cunning, and ruthless. Still likes to tease and joke around with He Simu. He's smiling and laughing a lot more in the later episodes!

I'm super happy they're adapting this drama so well from the original work. I thought that a particular scene in episode 10 wasn't going to happen, BUT IT DID. It's like some of the scenes I read in the novel came to life. I like that the changes made are incredibly minor and superficial so far. They're staying faithful to the story and characters and that's all we can really ask for.

Chen Feiyu and Dilraba really brought Duan Xu and He Simu to life with their portrayal for me.

I'm pretty sure that she CAN be attacked. Even though He Simu is unable to feel anything, the original host's…
I suppose so? I'm just following the drama's logic here, but it's established that He Simu is a female ghost. I'm sure she has weaknesses but they'll most likely be addressed in future episodes. It's too early to tell right now.

I'm not sure if you've caught up to the recent episodes, but He Simu and Duan Xu have already formed a pact. So yes, when they exchange senses, he will be unable to use them.

Okay so what is the point of this show when she is literally so damn overpowered that you cant do anything to…
I'm pretty sure that she CAN be attacked. Even though He Simu is unable to feel anything, the original host's body won't be able to withstand it. The drama has given us several scenes to support this, specifically when He Simu fainted or had a fever.

It also looks like they will address this in Episode 11-12. This will be even more apparent when Duan Xu gives her one of his senses.

This shit is ass so far omg, I'm sorry but I've never felt such a visceral level of disagreement with an on-screen…
But his character isn't supposed to be mature lol. Duan Xu is described as being cheerful and always smiling in the novel, which Chen Feiyu does do. They have plenty of chemistry to me, but at this current stage in the drama, it's not supposed to be an all-consuming love between them yet. He's literally scheming and fighting a war while she's an amused immortal who is watching his antics.

Title Love beyond the Grave Spoiler
What causes the angst?
It’s because she's an immortal and he's mortal—a tale as old as time. In one of the trailers/music videos released, there was a future scene between Duan Xu and He Simu that revealed their thoughts and feelings:

Duan Xu: "I used to be afraid you would forget me. But now I'm afraid you will always remember me."

He Simu: "I remember your breathing. Fireworks and lanterns. Floral scents and wine aroma. Fresh blood and wedding robes."

Dilraba and Chen Feiyu really brought He Simu and Duan Xu to life in this drama from the novel. I can't wait for the future angst between these two. They way they interact with each other is so interesting and amusing to me. It's almost like they're playing mind games with each other.

And let's not forget about Duan Xu enticing He Simu with his skull. 😂 I like that they're both unhinged. Didn't expect that from him at all, but he's definitely matching her crazy lol.

This couple is so unhinged in the most fascinating way 😭 like she’s literally obsessed with his skull and…
Right?! He's just as crazy as she is. When he said that she should wait until he turns 50 because his skull will be so much better then, I laughed out loud. 😂 Her deranged smile in response to that was so funny.

What's with the skewed rating for this drama on MDL? It JUST came out and people are already bombing it. This is not an 8.0 drama lol. It has a lot of potential and I really love how it's following the original work while expanding on the main characters and world.

So how's it? The start? Chemistry?Saw a short video of them and man Sima Jiao is back🔥
Surprisingly really good! They really like to test/probe each other. Duan Xu is very smart and perceptive while He Si Mu is already calling him Foxy. There are a lot of smirks from him, almost as though he can see right through her damsel in distress disguise/acting.

They’re suspicious of each other, but it also feels like they’re flirting at the same time?! 😂 Episode 4 was so funny. She’s really attracted to his skull lol.

Done with ep 1 and I genuinely was not prepared for how good this was going to look. Like i went with high expectations…
Yes! Duan Xu is giving "I'm more curious than afraid, but tell me more" vibes. 😂 I find their scenes so interesting and you can honestly feel the tension between them. She's unsettling, but he's drawn to her anyway.
