Overrated. -The story/plot is simple, yet there are too many episodes.It makes the drama dragged.Many uneven pacing, with many unnecessary arcs/scenes.....the drama could be concluded in less than 25 episodes.
In the novel, why did they break up? How many years were they apart?
The novel has different plot/story than the drama. You cannot compare these two. Btw,In the novel, their relationship is vague/blurry. They weren't officially dating until near the end. Before the end/final arc, there was three months separation before they got together.
The novel has more darker tone than the drama. Xiao Zhiyu is more complex pscyhologically.. The so called " love triangle" is more intense. Though Hu Xiu loves xiao zhiyu, i felt that she uses Pei Zhen and string him along
it is a decent drama, just there are too many subplot in the first half. Mainly involving FL family, felt like watching an episodic drama. The story pickup after that. Romance wise, its good. The couple has good communication and trust each other( especially ML).
ML is such a manchild. The romance is imbalanced. It is mostly ML chasing the FL. Its tried to be acomedy but somehow the ML character is too childish. The chasing phase is too long.
If you like melodrama/soap opera/makjang drama, this series is for you. Full of typical clichés. This is one of the most infuriating and blood-boiling drama I ever watch. Your emotion will be like rollercoster watching the drama. One second the CP will be in the lovey-dovey mood, next they will be in full throttled hate mode.
It just an extended version of typical short drama. The plot is the typical plot that you can find in hundreds short dramas. The ML is a good actor, but he seems stuck/trapped/typecasted in this type of drama
it is like watching late 2000s-early 2010s drama. A typical makjang drama. Every 10 minutes, there will be sad melancholy music with leads reminiscence their past memory
2ML is delulu,but FL is not great either handling 2Ml. She is stereotypical FL in most drama, who doesnt know that 2ML likes her and doesn't put boundary between herself and 2ml. She went to have dinner and celebrate 2ML's birthday alone.
It is like watching SML finally got the girl at the end. Seriously, ML here is like typical sml in romance drama. He always support and did a lot of things for her secretly . Even after FL got together with other man . ML is simping for FL for 10 years.
As for FL, it is only after the 'dream' that she realized ML always loves her.
This is my first republican drama, to be specific it happened during Warlord era in China. It is very heavy in politic. I have to google/search to get the real political background.
Romance wise, it is just a subplot. ML and FL like each other early on and get together in the middle. SML doesn't stand a chance at all. Hes been 'brother-zoned' since the beginning.
BTW, i watched this drama because of Zhang Jing Yi, and her character is "ride or die" kind of girl in romance. Similar to Lighter and Princess.
The ML - Xie Wei is one hell of a character. He is smart, cunning, ruthless. He is a master of political schemes and is not afraid to manipulate others to achieve his goals. He is a "Morally Grey and Ambiguous" . Not typical ML in dramaland.
In term of romance, he is the biggest red flag ever. His love is intense, obsessives, manipulative, demanding and sometimes violent ( neck grab, force kiss)
For me, its quite disappointed drama. The main weakness is the plot. The drama is trying to include everything ( romance,action,politic) but fell flat especially the political plot.
The romance is okay, not the best. The amnesia plot took too long to conclude. The highlight for me is the revelation and the angst afterword. I like watching the pining and the longing of ML from afar.
