Not a critique or a romance - just drama

This show isn't really about anything. It's an age gap drama with very little to say, or at least with no strong opinions-- it dabbles in all of them.

It's not particularly interested in showing any ill intent, or manipulation, or any real consequences for that type of relationship beyond rumors negatively affecting your work life. But it's also not interested in being a romantic drama, because the characters barely share a connection beyond "liking movies" and one singular filmmaker and they have very little chemistry, they really just happened to enter into a whirlwind and stuff went haywire until the dust settled. So it ends up being a bit of both in a way that cancels each other out.

Female leads in dramas like this tend to be passive and self-victimizing and not interesting enough to make any of the trouble the viewers goes through worth it. It's a shame, because Wako got pretty close to being an interestingly flawed character instead of a boring one.

The male lead was mostly charming and I felt bad for him. The directing was occasionally excellent.
