some kung fu fight scenes look pretty artsy but they aren't enough to save the poor story. people who call this a masterpiece are blinded by nostalgia. this was one of the few chinese movies that aired in the west at the time so perhaps it was their first and for many years last meeting with the world of jianghu and their mind was blown. at any rate, there are much better wuxia movies then this

every time I see a shit take about thrillers from someone I know that when I check their stats "comedy" and "romance" will be the highest numbered genres and "friendship", "idol actor" and "happy ending" will be the highest tags
