Did u read the novel or not? I agree that author writing is rather erratic and leaving lots of plot holes, and I think the drama will fill those plot holes, and create a more complete character. As how this novel got adapted, this is a web novel. Producer always looking for good IP to be adapted, and the buzz around this novel in the early stage was big, because the setting is rather different than the other Xianxia story.

Producer, Otter studio asked LYX to pick one among 3 novels, and he picked TTEOTM.
They ended up buying 2 out of the 3, because one is already sold. When the IP was bought, the novel is not completed yet. That's why they decided to film TTEOTM first. I think why LYX picked this, TTJ is should be the most challenging role to act in Xianxia so far.
