The Embodiment of BL
I started watching this drama knowing that it’s a 2023 Chinese BL. However, because I’m fully aware that Chinese dramas usually present it in a very, very heavy bromance way, I didn’t invest myself too much in expecting actual BL. I genuinely thought we were just going to get an intense, heavy friendship dynamic. And since the whole story was centered around family, brothers, and that entire theme, I didn’t even notice until the very end of the series (maybe around episode 19 or 20) that the two boys were actually in a sexual relationship. Even though, if you rewatch it, you’ll probably catch little hints here and there throughout the series.
But that’s not even the main point.
The real point is that this series is the purest form of what BL actually is — Boys Love — which is simply two boys being madly in love with each other. And that is something we should absolutely treasure. This show proves that you don’t need crazy NC scenes, wild kissing scenes, or anything over-the-top to make it real. BL, in its most sensitive, pure, and almost sacred form, can be captured exactly the way this series presented it.
