hmmmm, are we all so perfect?
Absolutely agree - this is completely the fault of the writers. What I also find so interesting about your reply is the point about the novel. It’s amazing to me how many times I write about a troubling character (and, sadly, too often the FL character) and someone comes back about how they weren’t like that in the book and the character in the book sounds WAAAAY more interesting - I just dont get why the huge change when converting from book to screen. Always interesting to me since I dont read the books these were adapted from - so makes me kind of sad to then learn how much more compelling the character could have been.
On Love of Thousand Years Jun 25, 2023
This one was just ok for me. Not great, but not bad either.
The beginning and end are kind of confusing (beginning more so - like you have walked in to the middle of a story confusing)
I thought all the actors did a fine job - just bad script writing.
I don't really care for FL's that do that stubborn, willful, ignore everyone's advice cause I am hellbent on doing the thing I want to do - no matter the consequences or reverberations on those around me, and then don't realize my mistake until its too late - kind of character - just gets old after a while - and this one really pushed the limit on it.
Once the leads get together - it's lovely - but it's not until ep28 - so you have to wade through ALOT of annoyance to get there.
Most of this drama is about people who cant let go of grudges, past wrongs, jealousy, revenge until its too late - pretty standard wuxia stuf

hmmmm, are we all so perfect?
Ha! No - none of us - but I really do have to question the choices made by whoever created this character - it was a bit much and cumulatively, made this character very unappealing (at least me)

I really respect your opinion and glad that you point out the likes and dislikes. I watched both as well and I…
I love reading why folks liked or disliked something - thanks for sharing!
I would add that Neo with the white hair at the end was very appealing :)

Different preference then. BFTB is heaps better than TTEOTM for me. TTEOTM annoys me to the point I didn't enjoy…
so love this reply and what I enjoy about comments - everyone has a different take and finds different thing enjoyable (or not) - you loved BFTB and TTOEM didn't work for you and it was just the opposite for me - that's what makes watching all these and then sharing viewpoints so great. Thank you for your comment!

Just finished this after I stopped at EP20 (ish) because it wasn't done at that time.
Don't need the haters as this is just my opinion and doesn't invalidate yours - but this was just ok for me.
It started out with a really good premise and I really liked how the leads were clear and open from the get-go about their history and stories - this was so refreshing - but man did it really lose steam for me in the second half.
I enjoyed the ML and was conflicted with the FL from early on. I just kept having this visceral reaction to her of that 1-20yr old who thinks they know everything - but don't really (which is hoe old she was in the story) - but I just didnt care for it and wished they had had a more mature FL. It also didnt help that the actress looks like she is still a teenager (yes, I know she is actually 25 - but man did she give off the teenager vibe here). Now, given that, she had her good mature moments and I did like that she was direct and clear with her intentions. So she wasn't all bad for me (hence my conflict). I think I am also just tired of this constant narrative with cdramas of the 18-20yr old female paired with the dragon god/king/god of war guy who has been around for a very long time - it just always feels a bit pedophelic to me.
I also started to lose interest in all the side-characters and side-stories - just got a bit repetitive and boring and predictable.
I thought they dragged out story arcs too long - like when he gets reborn - was cute to start with, but then it just went on too long.
Also - way too many repetitive flashback scenes - probably took up at least 3 episodes worth of time
And while I felt the two leads were cute together - didn't get much other sense of intimacy from them - so, that aspect was also just kind of meh!
I would certainly say - if you like this genre - its a good watch - but I also wound't put it anywhere near on the same plane as TTEOM - not even close.

I just started ep. 14. At around which episode does the real tragedy start?
I meant the ultimate tragedy is the last two episodes (for the main characters) - but other tragedies start to happen before that
On Here We Meet Again Jun 21, 2023
just started this and only on EP7 - but so far - what the actual hell is this mess?
Basic premise so far is a grown ass woman meets a guy she had a crush on in HS and becomes a crazy lady by turning right back into that teenager (and acting like one too). She is spoiled, judgmental, jumps to every wrong conclusion so far and her personality/moods swings are giving me whiplash. I generally am ok with actress (not a huge fan, but she is usually ok) - but this character is awful. I will push on for a bit longer as I do like the ML - but so far, the story is not that interesting and the FL is distractingly annoying - like, I want to slap her up-side-the head annoying.
it also doesn't help with how they styled her - the horrible top-not/poney-tail thing, the white go-go boots and the mom jeans - just awful
The whole thing so far is just stupid - I get its supposed to be rom-com - but that doesn't mean it needs to be dumb

Title One and Only
Beautifully done story - kudos to all - but be prepared this is horribly tragic and depressing all the way around - good thing it was only 24 episodes - dont think I could have taken much more of it and you will be bawling at the end - but it was masterfully done
On Love Is Sweet Jun 13, 2023
this is pretty ok rom-com - mostly because the main leads have such great chemistry - this is really the only reason to watch this - the rest is just kind of dumb.
The secondary couple are boring (mostly because the second female lead is just weird - even kind of creepy). She basically stalks this guy to no end, has a really childish, immature, unrealistic idea idea of what 'love' is (literally falls for him when he walks by the convenience store window because she is obsessed with finding a boyfriend), the awful side poney-tail that made her feel like a jr high school girl and the weird scene where she is hiding in the FL's apartment with the lights off when they come home (just creepy)
The last 5-6 episodes were just strange - felt like they ended the main story too early and had these extra episodes they didn't know what to do with and had create a whole new set of issues. The FL and Du Lei's characters completely changed. They had created a great redemption arc for Du Lei and then just had him go crazy and then the FL becomes kind of bratty - these last episodes just felt so disconnected from the rest of the story. And the usual rushed ending that was just stupid)
That being said - you will like the two main leads together - they are wonderful and I hope they do more together (and, yes, I have seen TTEOM - which they were great in as well)
On Back from the Brink Jun 6, 2023
got half-way through, then had to stop until drama finished (I. can't do the watch an episode here or there) - anyone else annoyed with FL? she just reminds me of the angsty teenager in the house who thinks they are an adult already.
Getting a bit tired of this trope with FL characters in so many cdramas - if they are supposed to be adults (cause everyone will say 18 yrs old where actually considered adults, historically) - then have them act like an adult - but they chronologically age them as teenagers and then make them act like teenagers (and its clear all writers think female teenagers are just brats) - but, in reality, these are adult characters - so just make them act that way - I mean, I will finish this because the story is kind of interesting - just getting sick of this narrative in so many cdramas.

On And the Winner Is Love Jun 6, 2023
Just started this and will watch - purely for LYX - but, my god, how stupid it is so far - you seriously gonna send a teenage girl, who has never been out in the world, to negotiate what is probably the biggest negotiation in the sect world - what a ridiculous set up. Can these writers please stop putting teenagers in adult roles (and I don't mean the actors, but the characters)
And, yes, I get this is 'historically accurate' - teenagers where considered adults back in the day - but an 18yrd old back then is not an 18yrd old today and it just does not translate to modern story telling - you have a adult actors playing teenagers (and acting like teenagers), trying to be adults - instead. -if they are supposed to be adults- then just act like adults instead of impetuous, childish teenagers - make up your mind already!

Update: about half-way through now and this FL character is probably the worst sect leader ever! Besides having some good martial arts skills and being the love interest of the ML - I haven't seen much use for her at this point. And to top it off - she is kind of dumb. She asks ALOT if she is useless and I find myself yelling at the screen - yes, yes you are!

Final update: Just I finished it and my overall thought was whoever wrote this must really hate women - like, seriously, every female character except Hong Xiu are all just sad and kind of pathetic. The FL has got to be one of the worst FL’s out there - supposed to be this badass sect leader who just constantly has to be rescued, fails to trust and believe the two main men in her life who she supposedly loves, spends most of the drama with a furrowed brow and too much crying - she was an inconsistent character that never really develops and you just want to slap her by the end (I completely lost it after her treatment of Mu Yuan). Then there is sister who kills herself and unborn child cause she just cant deal with her crazy husband - only to make make things worse instead of helping/protecting her brother - she really was a completely useless character. Then there is Feng Zi - the stupid, childish girl who cant let go of her obsession with ML and is completely manipulated by her Master - not a single brain cell in her head. Then there is Zhu Sha - dear lord - she spends the entire drama either crying or pouting and they make her sect leader at the end - UGH!!!

Besides the issue with all the female characters - this is just poorly written, nothing really new or clever about - pretty standard stuff. I would say - you only watch this because you are a LYX fan

Title Black Knight
almost too short - not enough character development of main cast that I couldn't get invested in them, tons of plot holes and as much as I LOVE Kim Woo Bin and was looking forward to this - he was kind of stiff in this.
And, whoever keeps thinking mullets are a good hairstyle - please stop. The, absolute horrible mullet on Sa Wol was just a bad, bad styling choice.
On Joseon Attorney: A Morality May 29, 2023
Came here for Woo Do Hwan - and he did not disappoint - as usual, a joy to watch.
Other good performances are the Ji Soon, Dong Chi and Lady Hong characters - well done!
Did not care for the FL - neither the character or the actress - she was pretty flat and kind of stiff and I so thought we had moved beyond the dead fish kissing at this point - but, apparently not - so this didn’t make their pairing very exciting (was even a bit cringey with that first kiss)
On Light Chaser Rescue May 26, 2023
Came to this for LYX after TTEOM - what a disappointment
Bad writing, bad editing, main leads have ZERO chemistry. Didn’t really care for either character
Overplayed the rescue scenes and they got repetitive and the horrible, overly dramatic music didn’t help - just pure propaganda
Ding Ding character was just obnoxious and kind of brat through most of it
Yuan Yan character was just so childish and kind of dumb and HATED the baby voice they gave her
Rescue team members where ok
Was really distracted by how thin LYX was in this - like, emaciated thin - could literally see his spine on his neck - nothing but skin and bones - and I get he is naturally thin and a ballet dancer - but this well beyond that - didn’t look healthy at all. And because of this - could not buy into the idea AT ALL that he could rescue people.
On Lie to Love May 22, 2023
Title Lie to Love
This drama is just ok and if you like LYX - give it a go - he doesn't disappoint. Storyline is ok - although nothing brilliant. FL is stiff (like the girl seriously needs to learn to loosen up). Oscar was great and I wish they had done more with him. Chu Chu was s good character until they turned her into the jealous girl at the end (thank god it for only a couple of episodes - but still dumb)
I appreciated that they didn't give the FL a baby voice, dressed her like a normal, adult person (mostly - someone was a little too obsessed with clunky boots), and they didnt make her clumsy - no tripping scenes - so thank you for that!
On the other hand - wasn't sure what going on with her hair - like it felt like a wig, those damn white boots (just awful) and his kinked hair (not good)
Wirth a watch as along you don't expect much (especially chemistry between leads)
On Till the End of the Moon May 20, 2023
Overall - one of THE BETTER Wuxia dramas out there. ML really does carries this entire drama and he was A-mazing. Just a truly beautiful performance on his part - I mean he was just stunning in this.
I was conflicted on the FL character - I like the actress, but this characters was really hit or miss for me. I think it really had to do with the fact that she basically lies about everything through the whole drama - so it was hard to know whether she was actually being sincere or not - that being said - this could also have just been a result of bad editing
I couldn’t give this a full 10 because of the dragginess through much of it and the overly complicated story that was hard to follow at times. I only pushed through those parts because of the ML and I was curious as to how they were going to wrap it up.
Can’t say I was particularly satisfied with the ending - usual cdrama fail that I had to come to the comments to understand the ending - which is a failure on the editing/writing team.
I also could not go for the two drugging of the two males and then having sex with them scenes - not cool - we wouldn’t like it if roles were reversed. So not sure why it’s considered ok here.
On May I Help You May 19, 2023
Pretty good drama if you like stories about life and death and grieving. Thought all the actors did a great job. The romance part didn’t quite work - FL felt very stiff to me and not a lot of depth in this aspect. Rest of it was pretty good
