Not sure why I watched this all the way through - has 3 of my least favorite things - religious theme, reality tv/game show theme and Kpop industry theme - add in all the horrible mullets and a not so clever script and its a hot mess.
Just finished and have to say, it was pretty boring. I generally don't mind slice-of-life dramas - but there has to be something interesting about, you have to be able to get invested in the characters and that just doesn't happen here. They just weren't that interesting - especially the FL - she was just kind of , blah. I did not get the appeal of her at all. I also could have done without the over-excessive propaganda spin for the SWAT department - it was a bit overkill.
Her fainting spells come on randomly, there's nothing she can do to be prepared. Of course they happen at the…
oh, I don't find her as annoying as many others either - she is kind of in the middle for. And whether the crying/pouting thing is done in a sneaky way or not - it's still emotional manipulation - she is intentionally using this emotion to get what she wants and that's not ok. And, yes, the illness thing is a total plot driver - but its just done so poorly as she even says at the beginning that didn't bring any medicine with her
I think I am just going to be lamenting this forever - but, why, oh, why do they have to write FL this way. This could be such a good drama - but the FL character just ruins its with all her stupidity. I mean, she is book smart - but dumb and clueless everywhere else -which actually makes her kind of bad at her job. The whole illness thing that makes her faint at the most important moments - like, she knows this and is never prepared and in the end is always ends up creating havoc; the silly/childish voice - not quite the baby voice - but close; then there is the pouty/crying act to get what she wants - HATE this kind of emotional manipulation - I will endure for a bit more as these things do tend to get a bit better as they go - but, jeebus, i am getting really tired of these poorly written female characters
really should have called the "scheming matriarchs' - man all those mothers, concubines and their maidservants were the worst! Dont get me wrong - this is one of the better period romance dramas - but man you can just feel the misogyny and internalized misogyny from that time and its hard to watch sometimes. Once you get past that - the relationship between the two leads is quite interesting and well done.
Sigh, you just started it and without giving the characters a chance, you wrote it off. I don't know how you judge…
I am well into episode10 and I never said I was writing it off - just annoyed at the moment. And this isn’t a historical drama - it’s Xianxia - so history has nothing to do with it - as a fantasy drama - where they could do anything they want, they are actively choosing to make the FL a teenager (and yes, 18 is still a teenager - not an adult; more importantly she behaves likes she is 12) And I dont rely on ratings and comments to judge a drama - I watch it and form my own opinions
Just started this and my god - can we stop with the bratty, rebellious teenager FL's characters - it's just annoying and there is nothing 'comedic' about - she's just obnoxious. I would also add - can we just stop having teenagers be lead romantic characters - it's kind of creepy. Overall, I am finding this quite stupid so far
Just gonna say - this would have been soooo much better if they hadn't written the FL character to be so pathetic. Its the worst of all the FL characteristics - she is insecure, desperate, childish, they dress her like a frumpy old lady and she spends most of the time pouting - it was a truly hard character to stomach for 16 episodes. That being said - thought the rest of the cast was great.
Yeah, good. A few things didn't make sense. Why did his powers start to fade a few episodes in? Although it didn't…
He lost his powers temporarily because she broke all the bones in his body - so he was messed up a bit - as soon as he recovered, he was back to normal
Why do they write FL characters this way - she is a 30 year old woman who acts likes she is 12 and dresses like an old lady, super clumsy and kind of stupid - seriously annoying
just started this and probably not going to continue - seriously over the whole age-old immortal folks in-love the little girl set up - the obsession that Xianxia drama writers have for this narrative is just kind of gross to me. Add on the fact that she is already annoying right out of the gate - no thank you. Will give them that lat least they didnt give her a 'baby' voice
if you are interested in a show about a bunch of horrible people behaving horribly - then this one is for you. Seriously, not a likable character amongst the bunch. From the horrible "best friends; to all the awful parents (all of them!); to the cowardly, indecisive husbands; to the awful siblings/extended family - it was super difficult to feel any compassion or empathy for any of them - which, then didn't make this very enjoyable to watch - at all. And then there is the trash ending that tries to redeem them all - didn't help make it any better.
Overall it's ok - but a typical c-drama with all the typical formulaic story lines. Super draggy after ep 18 - by ep 40, I literally did not care anymore and just wanted to get to the end. Pros - Wang Yi Bo is adorable and it was nice to see him play a more light-hearted character after Untamed where he is so serious Liked that the FL did not have a 'baby voice' and that she is stays a sword fighter through out ChuChu character was great Did enjoy that she was the martial artist and not him - a bit of gender role-reversal from the norm - this was nice to see Cons - coud not buy into the fact that the FL, who can't be more than 90lbs soaking wet, with NO muscle mass is somehow this fierce fighting martial artist. She is also such a one-note character and not always the brightest bulb on the tree Hated most of the side-characters - especially the younger sister and the 3rd prince - just constantly being stupid and causing all sorts of problems. Really took issue with younger sister and the whole crying to get her way thing.
finally? this is such a common rom-com trope - the old girlfriend/first love comes back and tries to get the guy…
yeah watch it and see what you think. I would say that she is better than most - as in not really bitchy or psycho - but the typical childhood sweetheart that shows up after being out of the picture for 6 years, pulls the history card, cries a lot, makes the ML feel guilty, makes the FML feel guilty, ML finally chooses FL and she leaves, only to come back at the end and pull the big stunt. I do get your point though and I do feel like I have seen that a few times - but, yes, not that often. I would agree with Dio's comments above as to why and as a female watcher - I am with you. I hate, in general, how women are often portrayed in k-drama/c-drama's - but the trope of the crazy ex is particilary annoying
finally? this is such a common rom-com trope - the old girlfriend/first love comes back and tries to get the guy…
have you watched this yet? - I just finished and the SFL is only in like 5 episodes of the whole thing and its the typical trope of her coming onto the scene right as the two leads are getting together (so well into the second half of the series) and then fakes being blind to trying keep the ML around - so its it no way a healthy relationship. Yes - she not exactly bitchy - but certainly manipulative
I haven't watched it yet, but I've read some comments mentioning a SFL disturbing the peace between the leads.…
finally? this is such a common rom-com trope - the old girlfriend/first love comes back and tries to get the guy back - what's new about that? happens in almost every rom-com I have watched.
I also could have done without the over-excessive propaganda spin for the SWAT department - it was a bit overkill.
