In her 40+ years in the industry, that was her first award. I'm glad she was able to accept it in person before passing. In an interview, she was so proud to receive it that she said if she passed, she wanted to be buried with the award instead of flowers.
Best Supporing Actress Awards (For her role as Mae Saeng in The Paradise of Thorns)
- Thailand Box Office Awards 2024 - Thai Film Director Awards 14
Mae Srida, the actress playing Mae Saeng, passed away today. She received the Best Supporting Actress award for this drama just a couple of days ago. It was her first award after being in the industry for 40+ years.
This was a pleasant watch. It tells the story of Princess Suphankanlaya, from the moment she left her homeland to become a royal prisoner of war and one of the wives to the conquering king. Khun Phan and Yitho, who served her in that lifetime, are reborn in the present day and travel back in time through a book to learn about the Princess' struggles and sacrifices.
The story is told with respect—no sensationalism, no over-dramatization. Just a heartfelt tribute to Her Majesty' sacrifice for her homeland.
This is like Thai Juliet & Juliet with a reincarnation twist where they're born into the other's family. I like it so far.
There are a couple of things that could be better, but not bad enough to distract from what seems to be an interesting story.
I love the opening song, very lakorn-esque.
Auntie, who was trying to help them in the previous life, is also in the other family with Pray again. She's with the girl in every lifetime. Best auntie
It's so refreshing to have a GL character like Kliao who knows how to communicate and is so self-assured the way she is. When her friend started with the "you've never tried dating guys", girl shut that down so fast. But to her friend's credit, she listened to Kliao and genuinely apologized after understanding the double standard.
Club Friday stories aren’t for everyone—they’re not your typical fictional dramas. Instead, they focus on the real-life lessons behind each story. This one, along with the previous story, deals with domestic abuse and its aftermath.
While the first story focused on leaving an abusive situation, Friends With Benefits explores the next stage: coping. The main character, Kan, copes by having one-night stands, never sleeping with the same person twice. She likely does this for two reasons—to regain a sense of control over her life and to prevent herself from developing feelings for anyone.
When she finally meets someone decent like Min, her past trauma and mistrust complicate things, especially when a stalker enters the picture.
By the end, I’m glad she made the decision she did. It shows meaningful growth for her character, and I believe it was the best choice for both her and Min.
Ep1. Feels kinda like Mae Yua. Hopefully, it doesn't go in that direction. The Princess is forced to live with the conquering King. Swears her undying loyalty to her homeland. May she meet her demise should she become disloyal. The King seems nice to her so far. Hopefully, there's no romance or anything between them. Bc unlike Mae Yua, the age gap here is pretty big. She's only 18 while he's probably in his 40s-50s.
That ending is kinda farfetched, but MC is still impressive. Remember in Death Note how Ryuk treated Light? It gave me that same vibe. Like "it was fun while it lasted. Nothing personal. See ya."
Thanks to the poster and synopsis that got me interested enough to start this. Strong first ep and story arc, too.
Can't believe there's only a few eps left. I've only just found it lol. There's actually enough story to go to 16 eps esp w the politics about wanting to detect and kill everyone w the killer gene. I'm on ep 8, and it seriously just keeps getting better.
