So far, I think this is a good story with relatable characters and real-life challenges.
Not as charming as previous similar Club Friday stories but interesting enough to keep watching to see how things pan out for the characters. It might just be that I've watched too many similar ones, and this is just as good as the others. One of the common main takeaway is usually that being gay isn't about "not finding the right person of the opposite sex yet". Because in the stories I've seen, they do find the right person.
The story also explores domestic abuse, shedding light on why people stay with their abusers and the complexities of those relationships. It does a good job of portraying the emotional and psychological struggles involved.
The cast is doing an amazing job. This is the first time I've seen TopTen in a main role. I only saw him briefly in Affair. Dr Frung, I haven't seen in a while, and it's like she never left. Still as great as ever. Pop, it seems like Change has typecasted him into similar characters. His characters in this one, Affair and Thong Prakai are very similar. I really liked him in Thong Prakai though, and it would be a shame not to see him in more diverse roles outside of BLs.
People have different preferences. Can we learn to respect that. People being petty over what ranking someone is on a site leaderboard that I hardly know 95% of the people on it. There are many talented and hard working artists that have little to 0 internet flowers. It says nothing about their ability or skills but rather how many of their fans use this site or think those things are important.
Engfa is an amazing person. Besides her well earned accomplishments, she's done so much in her life to genuinely help others and continues to do so and really doesn't deserve small minded people trying to put her or her fans down over trivial matters.
I really should learn to stop myself from reading comments, when spoilers happen way too often. So I'm gonna post this and not come back to read comments until it ends -- sad lol.
Dark complex characters I should theoretically and morally dislike but don't are my fav. Like Pyramid Game's Harin and Dear X's Ajin. I wish we had those kinds of GL main characters.
I'm confused about why Meguchi is so nice and trusting of Kotoha. Girl is making it her mission to take care of this random stranger she found laying in the trash one night. Is there a backstory that we're gonna find out about or is she just super duper nice, and kind, and also a danger to herself lol. I like her a lot though. She's nice but she's also not a pushover and is able to establish boundaries so far.
Kotoha doesn't seem like a bad person. What she did to Meguchi is definitely wrong. Trauma isnât an excuse for bad behavior, and it shouldnât be tolerated, but it doesnât mean we canât empathize with her struggles. Empathy and understanding arenât the same as justification. I rewatched the scene muted, and I could better see the shift in her facial expressions when she realizes Meguchi isn't like the people she's used to dealing with. Once she comes to that full realization, she backs off. Also, I feel like Kotoha is more on guard around Meguchi than Meguchi is with her.
That was only around 20m of story, and there's already so much to process lol. I'm invested enough to want to see the character grow but understandable if some people feel turned off.
I'm at ep 25. Surprisingly for its length and genre, it's pretty ok. For me, it's a minimum 7. I think historical fans, especially those who like strong & intelligent female characters and would have watched this even if there wasn't any GL/BL, may enjoy this.Â
The only thing I'm disappointed w and it goes for any drama, is that one of the main characters revolves their life around love too much sometimes. Like if their love isn't fulfilled or whatever, they'd be so miserable that they'd consider death. I can understand and sympathize w being heartbroken, hurt, disappointed, etc for a period of time but not when they base their entire well-being and life on it. I much prefer more well-rounded characters like Princess Vilas, Suwan, Mhom Kam, etc who make their lives about so much more than that. I don't remember Suwan being promoted all that much for this drama, if at all. Imagine me skipping out on watching this & missing out on such a great character.
KhunPra Jenaphibal is also surprisingly a really, really great guy too.
The entire cast is doing an amazing job. Even the supporting characters. With Thai PBS, their supporting cast aren't up to par acting wise sometimes. Not the case here.
Correction. It's not a remake. This is about Panor during her school/teen years. Just as the title implies, it's about her beginning. I hope this does well so they'll expand further into her universe, and we'll get a movies 2 & 3.
Looking forward to this. I love a good evil origin story.
This remake came right in time. I had no luck finding a good quality version of the original, and I've been so curious about the backstory. Like what did they do to deserve what happens to them?
I got interested in this after watching Long Khong, but the prequels are a whole lot more disturbing. So heads up on that. I wish this was a series, so each character could be more fleshed out and what happens to each of them would hit that much harder.
Cherprang looks too nice and innocent to be pulling this off. But I saw the making-of, and girl is nailing it. She isn't my bias, but she's definitely someone who's earned my respect as an artist for branching out into so many challenging and diverse roles. I hope she lands a drama that catapults her into the spotlight one day. She deserves it.
Fans of the cast, brace yourselves. This movie is BRUTAL.
Suwan's lingering gaze on the Princess tells a lot about her feelings. And the unspoken longing between Mom Sud…
Even Mhom Sut knows about how Suwan feels. The scene where Suwan goes to ask her about whether she's had experience reciting poetry to his highness, & Sut said no bc that spot to tell stories to Princess Vilas belongs to Suwan. That was such a bro move. I absolutely love their respect and support for each other.
Unspoken longing? How far along are you guys? That's behind us now lol. Eps 15 & 16 are so cute.
I feel like there's a lot of foreshadowing going on w Princess Vilas, and I hope I'm wrong and just being paranoid.
Mhom Sut & Kham have been apart for 6 eps now. There are 13 more eps.
At least, we have the cuteness of Suwan and her Princess Vilas in the meantime. I really would like a GL w their dynamic -- the forbidden love bwn a princess and her help or similar.
The OST dropped already https://youtu.be/UEBqKtSl97U?si=F6otlo_2K194B1A3There's one more coming today
Thank you!
Of course, they got ASIA7 to do it. I was like this beat and voice sound familiar lol. They also sang for I Feel You Linger In The Air. Another really amazing song from them.
These people make the dudes in Thong Prakai look like angels.
Story, acting, setting and execution really amazing so far. I especially appreciate that things are mostly shown instead of told. Characters in other dramas going into full monologues explaining important plot points while Thicha can show so much in a single scene. That's what separates great screenwriting and execution from mediocre to bad ones.
Can't wait for the full OST to drop. When it started playing while young Thicha was at the bridge, damn. The beat and lyrics suit this perfectly.
Wish we could've seen young Thicha and her mom for longer. Namfon and Maki did so well. I'm glad they chose to show the backstory from the beginning instead of through flashbacks.
Hope our girl is tough and have people helping her out, bc her enemy be hanging out w a straight up pedo-. God knows what other sickos are in her arsenal. From what Bussara said, there was at least one girl before Thicha and I'm guessing she probably sent him at least one other girl to placate him afterwards.
The ending is so so sooo cute! Definitely one of my top fav GL endings.
I'm beyond happy for Tsuki and her moms. That photo backdrop is such a great symbol of their story. It captures everything perfectly.
I would totally watch a Yoreum spin-offâgirl has the foundations for a great story. And Iâm so happy for the husband, too. Like Fuyu, he faced the same cultural expectations. Remember that conversation with his mom in SS1 where she called him "not a man"? I'm glad he and Fuyu were able to break free from that and follow paths that truly make them happy.
I also loved seeing the gaming company coworkers from SS1 return. And lol, the author's sister and Roâoh my god, that lady is so extra, I can't even lol.
They tackle many meaningful real-life issues in the short amount of time they had while giving enough screen time for the couple to be lovey-dovey and a sweet family. Ofc, we can never have enough, but I'm pretty satisfied.
I'm still waiting to see how ONE handles this situation. Yes, like any company, money is one of their end goals. Dramas arenât made for free. ONE usually prides themselves on creating meaningful stories and characters. Compared to other companies, theyâve stood out in that respect which is why I'm not quick to condemn them. However, as the company overseeing this drama, they do need to be held accountable for what happened here.
It's important to remember that many people are involved in this project, many of whom had no part in the decision-making for that specific scene or were even aware of how it was being done. Some are even bound by contracts that prevent them from speaking out or taking action. That's why the investigation is important, to find out what really happened and hold those directly responsible accountable. I don't think it's fair to punish everyone involved in this project because of the decisions and actions of what could be a few people.
We shouldn't paint the entire Thai entertainment industry or Thailand itself with a broad brush based on this incident. If you watch enough diverse Thai dramas from different companies and production teams, youâd see that CGI is often used. And when real animals are used, thereâs plenty of behind-the-scenes footage showing owners or caretakers playing with animals to safely get a scene done. There are even dramas where actors bring their own pets to portray their characterâs animals.
And yes, I agree. The GL should be the least of what people are talking about. Frankly, Iâm a bit embarrassed thatâs all some people in my community seem to care about but that's not everyone.
In a scene, tea is suspected to have been poisoned. In order to test this, a character has a cat drink it who dies, confirming that the tea was poisoned.
Thai netizens saw the scene and felt it looked too realistic for comfort. Someone from the production team later posted on X that the cat was sedated for the scene.
And so here we are today.
Responses, Allegations & Concerns (So Far)
Licensed vets who were interviewed for this said that in order for the cat to have that kind of reaction, it would have to be sedated without prior fasting which is very dangerous. They don't know whether this was intentional or negligence. Either way, an animal should only be sedated for medical purposes and only under the supervision of a licensed professional.
The director later posted a video of the cat being alive and well. Thai netz pointed out that the cat from the video may not be the same, specifically pointing out the ears.
The director has also stated that the cat was sedated for the scene. That its owner and a professional were on standby on set. Thai-netz are asking for their information for confirmation, but of course for privacy and safety reasons, that can't be disclosed. Thai-netz are also asking to see behind the scenes footage related to the scene from beginning to end also for confirmation.
The drama will eventually be investigated.
There are calls to suspend/ban the drama for suspected animal cruelty.
