Haha, it happens. I occasionally go back between Bright and Thyme when referencing as well π and agree, I believe they did really well with Thyme's character, and just like you said, it still doesn't excuse the bullying in the beginning, but it does give us a good overall background where we can feel for him on a personal level. Compared to the Korean version, I honestly felt like Gu Junpyo was just a straight jackass lmao. and yess, Cindy Bishop's presence is strong! and can I just say, I absolutely love her voice Lol. It's so soothing.
Have to add that I love the scene with Kaning when she immediately regretted sending the money to Kavin lmaoo (episode 4). It's realistic and it reminds me of the many times we do things on the whim just to prove our points, and then later on we're like "wait, maybe I should've thought it more through... oop" πβοΈ
After watching tonight's episode, i trust someone who said this earlier in this comment section, it's said "The…
π₯Ίπ₯Ίπ₯Ί My ThymeGorya heart. But that's pretty spot on. Gorya will always be second to Mira when it comes to Ren; whereas like you've already said: to Thyme, she is second to no one. I haven't watched the other renditions of BOF but it seems like the only plausible case where Ren would choose Gorya, is because she's a rebound--which she doesn't deserve that. She deserves someone who will love her wholeheartedly, and I am absolutely digging the way they're portraying Thyme in this version. He's an ass, but he actually gives a damn and actually has depth.
After this episode, 100% Thyme & Gorya is the only way to go. Ren is charming and all that, but my man Thyme in this ep has proven himself ππππ And can I just say, I laughed so hard at the umbrella scene Lmaooooo. The way they set it up, I was so expecting a romantic scene and then Thyme just-- ππππ Also, Hana is super sus. I dun trust that girl. Loving it so far, can't wait for the next ep!
Well said π you nailed every point I wanted to say and more. I've always had a problem with the root of the story (or more so, the Korean version bc that's the most popular one) so it really drove me away, but I am so glad I gave F4 Thailand a chance. I'm falling for Bright so hard and dying every time I have to wait for a new episode. And you're absolutely right about Kavin! I also noticed he's always the one to narrate when it comes to anything significant, so definitely keeping an eye on him for sure. Gorya is probably one of the most realistic level-headed female character I've ever come across in a series (I thought the other versions were too over the top), and I love how all the girl characters on the show are such scene stealers in their own way, even Thyme's mother. It's understandable why Gorya and her friend sees Mira as their idol, as she's absolutely beautiful inside and out, bless her soul! <33
Such a lovely and well written review. You nailed it! U pointed out the painful points and the well written areas…
Thank you <3333 and I agree. Honestly, if it wasn't for Mark/Mew and a few of the casting that I like, I would've dropped the show long ago, but the cast/acting was really the saving grace
Wow! I really love your reviews coz we both echo similar opinions. Be it MHIL or MFS.Emotionally I felt more attached…
great minds think alike π Yes~ MFS's characters just felt so much more raw. Deeply flawed but that's what made them great. I watched it for Mark as well, and was taken aback by how much I enjoyed it!
Also, how did you find my review among all the others lmaoo fam thanks
Agreeeeee~ and I found you through your review for Sawan Biang and lord... what a mess that show was. I just loved your review for SB so much that I skimmed through your reviews for similar shows I've watched. Your reviews are just hilarious and you just tell it like it is lmaoo. No holding back
Ik I'm hella late but yes to what you wrote about Yiseo/Saeroyi. Each to their own opinion but I just can't fathom SooAh and Saeroyi as endgame. And while the idea of them is nice because they have history that goes way back, and how awesome would it be to end up with the one person who has been there since the beginning of your struggles. But the reality is that they were just not meant to be. And honestly, SooAh is just not ideal for someone like Saeroyi. Homeboy has been through hell and back, he has seen the darkest of the night, felt the greatest pain and losses. He does not need someone unpredictable like SooAh who if given the chance, will drop Saeroyi without hesitation if she were to be offered something of greater importance. What someone like Saeroyi needs, is loyalty. Of course Saeroyi is smart and thinks ahead, reason why he made a plan. But he was simply too vanilla (for a lack of better word) He needed someone just crazy enough to carry it out, and Yiseo was like the missing piece to his puzzle that he's been looking for all along. She was young, ambitious, and clever but most of all, she was loyal to the core. She wasn't wishy washy with what she wanted but made it clear multiple times she is dedicated to this one man and like you said, when everyone else just watched and hoped for the best, Yiseo not only fought with him, but she turned his dream into a reality!
And at the same time, it also benefitted her. I know some people might feel like she does nice things only to get on Saeroyi's good side, but for a sociopath like her who before, cares about no one but only winning, to want to become better because of Saeroyi, or even just do nice things for others because of him, I think that's already pretty great in itself.
All in all, these two really complements each other. For Saeroyi, someone whose had a rough life to have someone completely dedicated by his side, and for someone like Yi-seo who lacks empathy for others, but to meet Saeroyi and just feel for this guy, his perseverance and determination, and to want to bring happiness to this dude, but also wanting to do better things because of him. Chefs kiss.
I'm also really tired of the first love = true love trope, so I am glad he ended with Yiseo. It proves that time isn't a measurement of love. No matter how long Saeroyi has known SooAh and clung onto her, Yiseo+Saeroyi proves that love is built through loyalty, teamwork, trusting in each other and having one another's back. All of which Saeroyi's and SooAh's relationship lacked even though they had the advantage of knowing each other longer.
Watched the drama solely because of Mark Prin, who I first saw in My Husband In Law, and I loved him!! So, I thought,…
No problem! It is always interesting to see someone with a contrasting opinion because it really gets me thinking like wow... people can be so different from one another ha.
I could see all of your points with Arthit. Similar to what I wrote about his character analysis on my review... Arthit is uh uhm how do I say it... a rather complex character. I think you either like him or you just hate him completely. He's like an asshole that isn't completely an asshole. It's very difficult to word it. Like I can see why you hate him but I can also see why others don't? Lolz. Arthit has good qualities within him and I think it is up to the individual themselves whether they think his goods is enough to overshadow his bads. I believe though that he did at some point apologized to Paeng or at least to the effect of that (I remember them having this conversation but not vividly as I watched the show a while ago). I also remember specifically he apologized for the accident and said it wasn't all of her fault and that it was also him who decided to drink drive.
I think the main reason why I prefer MFS over MHIL was the premise of it, and Paeng as a character was very much a good reason to move forward. It depicts her journey from a lost teenager to a stable woman who can stand her own ground, and as much of a douche Arthit was, seeing their relationship go from being annoyed by each other to somewhat being fond of each other, to a one sided love, then turning into hate, then slowly to love was very intriguing. Like these two has been through some real shit and came out of it together which is what made their final moment so much more impactful. I did enjoy MHIL but I don't adore it because imo, the story was all over the place and it felt like it had no direction at some point. Near the end, it was like the writers just decided to throw every cliche in and then called it a day. Muey and Thien legit had so much potential for a heartwarming storyline similar to Crazy Little Thing Called First Love but then they made Muey's character inconsistent like I couldn't tell what her personality was because she went from being shy and submissive to bold and flirty and then suddenly she was just done with Thien's shit. He also forced her to stay in the camp against her will, locked her in her room for a few days? And the worst offense was getting her drunk and taking advantage of her so she won't divorce him and then passing it off as love. MHIL also just had a lot of issues that is against my moral.
1. Being way too invested in your children's love life AKA Thien's mother. She never seemed to care about her son, but always only about Muey. Forcing Muey onto her son all the time and never caring about what he wants. In MFS that was never the case as Arthit's parents and other parents in the show always stated it again and again that you shouldn't interfere with your kids life.
2. Muey lowering her dignity for Thien (making him her whole world) and not knowing when No means no. He rejected her and made it clear plenty of time he isn't interested. The girl don't seem to be able to take a hint and constantly pushed herself onto him. IRL if a guy were to do this, it would just be creepy but because a female did it, people are willing to bat an eye.
3. Rape gets taken lightly in the show and are constantly joked about. Which isn't okay. The only attempted rape in MFS that I remember is Paeng unsuccessfully forcing herself onto Arthit which is a major improvement considering we're talking about lakorns here.
So I think why I liked MFS so much better even though Arthit was a major dickbag was because he was only one problem whereas MHIL had problems widespread in major areas (with Thien being a bit of a douche just being one of them) wherever you looked that it made it so much harder to disregard.
But each to their own opinion, I can also see why you prefer MHIL as it's more light hearted and easier to get into. There's a reason why My Husband in Law is the more popular of the two so you're not alone. What I listed above was just why I couldn't enjoy it as much as I could've. And yes to Mark! He really is great. If you haven't watched Kleun Cheewit, you really should. Yaya's performance in there as his leading lady will blow you out of the water. She is wonderful there and really brings the character to life.
And you're good. I like lengthy comment. It tells me the person really took their time to think through what I wrote and even replied with their thoughts. Really just wild how our taste can be so different Lol.
As for me unfortunately that wasn't very good drama. I hate why in lakorns they usually show female leads as naive,…
No problem. Opinion respected. I could see where you're coming from although I think you're more applying this to the overall Lakorn setting rather than MFS specifically? Because I thought Paeng was pretty competent as the female lead, very much ahead of others if we're to compare to other lakorns. She was young, clingy and possessive at the beginning as it was a set up for character growth, and she definitely got much much better later on. She no longer cared for Arthit, she no longer was chasing for love or dwelled on petty fight that was not worth her time because pretty much, the older you get, the more you learn to care less about things that don't matter. But she did get a little TOO forgiving and kind and fell into noble idiocy near the end so I can see your point. But I did liked her character quite a bit.
Speaking of My Husband in Law and mean male characters, MHIL was a show that I had a lot of problems with (pretty much those exact same things you've said). If you're interested, I pointed out a lot of these issues in my review for it so I'll say it that while I adore My Forever Sunshine, I couldn't say the same for MHIL. It had a lot of things that went against my moral and was an overall mess. In MHIL, Mark's character was kind of mean just for the sake of being mean. Like he was just a legit asshole for no reason. In My Forever Sunshine, although not excused, it was a little more understandable as Paeng literally forced herself onto him twice, accused him of a serious allegation he didn't do and was one of the causation for him storming out and getting into an accident that left him hospitalized and in a recovering state for 1-2 years. I think the difference between Paeng and Muey was that Muey was such a pushover even when she didn't have any real reason to bend to Thien's rules. She didn't have to be nice to him or take any of his shit but she still did. But for Paeng, she kind of knew within herself that she owe it to Arthit for all of the misery she caused him in the past and his words of forgiveness was something that meant a lot to her. MFS was a real hate to love storyline and not just casual misunderstanding dragged out for years, I guess that's why I found it more intriguing. The logic made more sense in MFS than MHIL. MHIL just seemed like two very indecisive people that needs to get their shit together. But I am with you on a mean male lead, because although I can understand why Arthit treated her so bad at the beginning, even when he already started developing feelings for her, he was still a douche. I guess that's just writers wanting to drag it out for drama which I hate.
And oh yeah. Thai Lakorns is getting a bit better BUT they still have a looooong way to go. I cannot with joking about rape and especially Thien taking advantage of Muey in MHIL made me sick to the stomach. Rape was taken so lightly in MHIL it made me felt wrong watching it. I agree on the LGBTQ+ characters as well. They're always made out to be like comedy relief and as if being gay is a bad thing. Also with Tomboys in Lakorns. They always treat tomboys like they're a bad thing and use it as an insult. The list can go on and on.
The show definitely had a lot of lost potentials and while I did love it, I can see why someone else wouldn't as well so you're good.
Glad you enjoyed MHIL. I'm for sure if you liked that one, you might like this one as well so definitely give…
in my MHIL, Mark's character was kind of dick just for the sake of being one. In MFS, you will see at the beginning that Arthit is a really kind person! But he turned more into a douche because of Paeng (and since we're on the topic of sexual assault, yes she did tried to force herself onto him, but she really grew as a person later on, regret her choices and bettered herself). I did kind of spoiled what she did in the article lol but yeah. So in a sense I can understand his anger, but later on he is still kind of an asshole and a bit possessive even though he already started developing feelings for her. But it does take quite a long time until it shows him being mean. When she returned, he was mean to her because of the pain she caused him in the past and him thinking she was still the same as she was before. The first few episodes he is really really kind even the female lead developed a crush on him. It is up to you though but if anything, I would recommend you give it a try mostly for Paeng's journey and her character development.
And I totally get what you're saying. Believe it or not, Thai Lakorns was even worse before. Like a lot of old lakorns have actual r*pe turn into love and it's just not cute. They're starting to slowly become a lot better but yeah, there are still some today that shows the same thing. That's why I think it's best to be picky choosing Thai Lakorns. And MFS doesn't have any attempted R from the male lead although he did kind of tried to kiss her in one scene but that's as far as he went. He's kind of a mama and papa boy lol.
That's completely understandable! If you don't mind me asking, what were some cons in your book? And I agree.…
Lol yess I did so too. I already knew he was going to die at some point so I thought the guy Arthit's father owe money too would be very angry that Paeng's dad paid everything off so you know... I thought they were going to pull the typical Thai lakorn route and the guy is going to send someone to kill off Paeng's father. But that wasn't the case. In fact, after he paid off the debt, those gangster debtors disappeared completely. His death was never expanded upon and even the very last moment he was mentioned it was only IF he had killed Paeng's mom but nothing about the causation of his death. I think the writers probably think they made it clear by the gunshot Paeng heard that it was a suicide but I'm all over here waiting for some explanation about him and suddenly the credits are already rolling lol.
And aww you're right! That's a very nice way to put it! Nothing is ever a waste of time if you thoroughly had a blast with it :P
Lmaooo
