It's a happy ending for the leads after a separation. But the actual content is very brief. Like two or three…
ML has a fake death due to various political/war circumstances. This happened without his knowledge LOL - he thought he was really going to his execution.
FL really thought he died. She went on journey to clear his reputation since he died officially as a traitor.
After reputation was cleared, FL goes to neighboring land because she was subtly encouraged by others (who knew the inside story but didn't tell her). She hears a familiar voice and main story ends there. In the extras, it is briefly mentioned that they continue to operate the intelligence network together (since rival kingdom threat is still there even though there is a temporary peace now).
For other characters: - Zhang Yuehui is the one who set up ML's fake death and hid it from FL until right before his own death. This is a very contradictory complex character (you will love and hate him at times) so really difficult to explain in a few words - I will leave it up to the drama portrayal. - Song Muchuan (best friends with ML) had crush on FL since she saved him physically and spiritually. He marries some other official's daughter in the end. It's bittersweet wedding since the kingdom is saved but many friends and allies are no longer here. - There's a lot of other characters that were fleshed out throughout the story (including villains) and each had their own various endings.
can someone spoil me of the novel's ending? 😠as someone new with cdramas, do drama adaptations usually adapt…
It's a happy ending for the leads after a separation. But the actual content is very brief. Like two or three lines of text about them which is kind of not satisfying. Hopefully drama expands on it a bit more. Or at least with visual media the emotions can portrayed more effectively.
I think the author wrote it this way because the other characters' endings are more sad/bittersweet so I guess to create a balance lol (more poetic).
I deleted my comment because I misremembered some details as it's been a while since I read the novel. I went back and re-read that chapter and summarized it here.
In the novel, He Yan and Xiao Jue were both fighting, when she hears an explosion from Xiao Jue's direction. She tries to rush there to confirm his safety, but here are a lot of enemy soldiers in the way. In desperation to get to Xiao Jue, she single-handedly slaughters every enemy while frantically calling for him.
When Xiao Jue eventually shows up, he sees all the bodies killed by her and comments that she is quite fierce. He Yan ignores this and suddenly hugs him tightly, trembling and starts crying. Xiao Jue is stunned as this is the first time he saw her cry. Feinu is also surprised by her state when he shows up. While they are hugging, Xiao Jue observed the battle situation is under control and there is no real worry.
Later, Xiao Jue points out to He Yan that she is bleeding. He Yan belatedly realizes she is hurt. They even start arguing because He Yan wants to deal with the injury later, but Xiao Jue insist she gets treated right away.
Overall, in the novel, this scene showed us how important Xiao Jue is in He Yan's heart without her appearing to be out of character for an experienced general.
Compared to the drama, the changes they made made (He Yan dropping her weapon and leaving her back vulnerable with no allies around) feels poorly adapted and awkward.
The plot with the master's death, I remembered incorrectly - she did cry. However, in the novel, the master's death is after that scene above (both of these events were supposed to be in Jiyang). In the drama, they had the master's death in Jiyang first and then this scene in Rundu after. Thus, the first time crying and loss of emotional control plot device can't be used so I guess they decide to add the "Xiao Jue saving her from enemy sneaking up while she is crying" plot instead. It's a pity because the novel's version of this scene is much better and I feel like they could have still incorporated it.
Taiwanese drama More Than Blue - The series would've been my number 1 choice, but I see it didn't make the list…
You can add it to the list. This list is a compilation of individual user votes so no one has added that drama yet if you don't see it here. Personally, I haven't watched this series yet.
Someone who read the novel can explain a little about the romantic line and the story?
It's a slow burn. The FL is disguised as a man and joins the army (ML is the commander). They spend of a lot of time together (there are lots of cute/funny moments e.g. pretending to be a married couple for a mission, FL's antics when drunk) but the romance doesn't really develop until mid novel (or later). FL falls in love first because she realizes that he is the person that helped her in her previous life (but she tries to hide her feelings). ML is suspicious of FL in the beginning because she was an unknown person joining this group of new recruits but somehow is a martial art genius. Over time, ML slowly learns to trust her more and become attracted to her. He becomes much nicer to her (worries about her injuries (more than she does lol) and stands in if anyone tries to bully her i.e. jealous girls and tries to help her as much as possible later.
FL's personality is very lively and straightforward. She is also very shameless, often boasting about being number one in the Liangzhou guard (what the new recruits are called). ML's personality is very cold and indifferent. He is also a clean freak and follows proper etiquette. FL is the opposite so their interactions are amusing and when he starts to open up to the FL you can see his treatment of FL changing, becoming gentler and more caring. There is a funny scene where FL is looking at "spring" pictures and gets caught by the ML. FL is so shameless and says to ML that these are not drawn that well (indicating that she's seen better). ML is so speechless and warns her to not look at these pictures ever again.
In the novel: She's more of a minor character in the story. She's engaged to Marcus's character but she runs away from the engagement (Cheng Li Su does as well lol). She gets kidnapped and sold to brothel. FL (disguised as a man) saves her and Song Tao Tao falls in love with FL.
I must have missed something, or maybe the scene was cut, or lost in translation.... What ep did the FL find out…
First half of episode 12 - it's not directly shown to the audience since the scene cuts out. She told FL before she met up with ML to buy to necklace for his mom. FL and ML joke about it while they are eating.
I think it will be in part 2.https://twitter.com/yangzifan35612/status/1558610386685132801?t=67aq7SZHd7dDBHGDM9Fc5Q&s=19
yy says he is changing and ask why yd is here. yd looks at his chest and says isn't four leaf lotus supposed to heal all poisons and ask about the scars. yy said these scars are left behind from the love punishment. attendant comes in and sees them hugging, says you are breaking the heaven rules. yy says he no longer cares about the rules, only wants to protect the one he cares about and tells attendant to leave.

*I'll put more specific details in another reply.

Zhang Wanyi and Lu Yu Xiao
Zhang Linghe and Zhang Jingyi
Chen Zhe Yuan and Zhao Jinmai
Hou Minghao and Song Zuer

In the extras, Song Tao Tao marries FL's brother.
