They didnt, theyre more of spectator and just having fun, cus they know they cant stop thyme anyway but MJ subtly…
I think they realize that Gorya isn't giving in and the longer it drags out the more it will hurt their reputations and turn the school against them. Another factor is it's clear Ren cares about her so the longer Thyme continues trying to enforce the red card, the bigger the rift between them. Also the more they see Gorya standing up to Thyme the more she earns their respect.
The F4 are so wealthy and famous that they can't be forced to wear uniforms to school unlike all the other students. This has been true of all the versions that are set in high school.
I love love love how the drama calls out slut shaming. Instead of having Gorya loudly proclaim her virginity like the FL's in all the other versions, she screams from the rooftop "So? What if I've been with 10 guys and gotten pregnant? It's my business. It's a modern age!" I was fist pumping through that scene. Also how Kavin and MJ told Thyme "You kidnapped her? That's illegal? You could go to jail?" Like the writers are fully aware of how problematic the story is and they can't take out all the problematic elements but they can call it out as part of the narrative, it's brilliant.
He became an ass like way later tho when ml and fl started to get together
Agree with all but Lei has an interesting character in 2001 MG. He does all the things you say but then he stops flirting with Shancai and becomes a loyal friend to her. It's nice, actually. Their relationship deepens in a way that makes sense.
i love the Taiwanese and the 2018 Chinese version. For this version, the first episode has a bit too much violence,…
I love the Taiwanese version too but I thought it was at least as violent as Thailand. There's the scene where Shancai is fighting off a ring of boys and gets bruised and punched before Daoming Si shows up to rescue her. And before that he assaults her in the stairwell š²
Just remembered something hilarious: Gorya's boss at the flower shop makes fun of the F4's name by saying "There's a thin line between cool and cheesy." I loved that because there's no way you can have a remake and not call them the F4 but Flower Four is kind of ridiculous. It's a way to stay in line with the drama's iconic past but also poke fun at the things that didn't age well.
I've seen almost every version of Hana Yori Dango and I've even recorded a podcast episode on the Korean version so when I saw the trailer for this version I was really excited. And that excitement was justified because the first episode was great. Here's what I liked:
- The lead actors fit their roles really well. Tu was impressive as Gorya, she felt strong but vulnerable and real. Bright as Thyme is legit scary and yet you can see the character's vulnerability as well. I didn't like the actor who played Ren as much though but he's very nice to look at.
- The way social media was integrated into the story. I was especially chilled when Thyme says the F4 gives the students anonymous accounts in real life. So well done and a great way to update the story.
- The dark and gritty tone of the bullying scenes. I like that they leaned into how incredibly violent and frightening it is. The setting for the bullying was great too, it was like a Roman coliseum, especially in that first scene where Thyme is wearing a leopard print coat over a tiger striped shirt. That sense of danger makes Gorya's interactions with Thyme scarier than in almost any other version except maybe 2001 Meteor Garden. That raises the stakes. Is it messed up? Oh absolutely but the story is problematic at its core and I think the writers and director understand that and are leaning into it.
- I like that the boss at the female lead's job is a gay man and that her family is more supportive of her and not just using her to get rich like in other versions. The scene where her father gives her the shoes was heartfelt and touching.
It's too bad they're only releasing one episode a week but I'm excited to see where the story goes and how Gorya's relationships with Ren and Thyme evolve.
Lmfaooo thatās what Iām saying Thailand has the most agressive rudest male leads in history I wouldnāt be…
Omg you 100% nailed why I've watched almost every version of the story and it's why I don't like the 2018 Meteor Garden, they neutered the male lead too much and took out the sense of danger which is so incredibly important to the story.
Finally a normal good romcom! The premise of the drama is sorta boring. But the characters are super good. Kmj…
It's doing okay in the ratings. Number one in its timeslot with a 5% share. It's a Tues-Wed drama so won't get the same numbers as HCCC which was a weekend drama.
I like how it plays with tropes. Like the scene where Moo Hak wakes up on Dali's sofa and pulls her in and everything goes soft focus and slo-mo for a moment so you think it's a dream sequence and then whoops it's actually happening! Also that she initiates the first kiss and initiates sex (and is thwarted, poor thing). And that the misunderstandings aren't dragged out so you don't get artificial conflict. It's all extremely well done and yes Min Jae is perfect! I can't believe he's only 24, he reads late 20s-early 30s in the drama.
There are really only so many rom com stories that can be told. To be honest most rom coms without any kind of…
It's true. For example, Touch Your Heart is close to a pure romcom and it completely ran out of plot once the leads got together. The early episodes are charming and the later ones are a complete drag.
