I don't know their names either, only the ones I've seen irl. But I had to go and check that scene in the pub again. I found that one of the paintings there is called "Romeo and Juliet on the balcony" by Julius Kronberg and the other one next to Wethis is called "The swing" by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. Both are really impressive works! They definitely used an art expert because there's nothing random about the pieces in the series.
And I tend to ignore small things like the light or the rug. I just give the prop team the benefit of the doubt that they did it for esthetic purposes.
I think that they use this kind of wardrobe, which is similar to French court, just to distinguish him as the sole hair to the throne. That's why the other characters are not given the same amount of laces and just presented in day to day outfits.
I'm sure you guys will talk about the characters in the series a lot so here's me with another topic after the last episode. What fascinates me the most in this series is how much freaking effort was put into it. Lat time I commented on the exterior of the palace, resembling the Duomo in Milan, today, the art noob that I am, I'll comment on the paintings.
And this whole art collection, shown in the series, is not just some prints or reproductions of classical art paintings, they're freaking INTERPRETATIONS. I really want to know who painted them!
I won't bore you, going piece by piece but even the "Garden of Eden" that Charan painted is based on an original by Peter Wenzel (if you ever find yourself in the Vatican museum). And the squeak I let out in the next episode preview, when Khanin passed by one paining, which is the Eilean Donan castle in Scotland!
