ordinary people just like in real life. At first, I was a little frustrated with how “normal” everything felt, but as the story went on, I started to appreciate that realism. Most of the time, the truth is revealed, but justice isn’t served, and that really gave me a new perspective.

I’ve finished the series, so I get it. But he stood out so much to me that even when others were around him, he still felt lonely. Maybe it’s because he was my favorite character.

As the story goes on, Zi Qiu’s life, his behavior, and the way he thinks just break my heart. There’s always this feeling that he’s kind of an extra, and even the framing shows that. Everyone else has someone who’s their first priority, but Zi Qiu doesn’t have anyone like that.

It’s been over a year since I watched this drama, and tonight, while scrolling through some edits on TikTok, I suddenly felt like coming here to talk about it...
I don’t know if anyone has ever shared this thought before, but when I finished the series, I honestly felt like everything that happened was just Ling jiu Shi’s hallucination.
He had an accident, and because of his lonely life, he imagined this whole game centered around him — an NPC who loved him, friends he had always longed for, a new life he built for himself.
After the accident, he drowned in that illusion. And when he finally woke up, all those people he met in the “game” were actually from his neighborhood — the doctor, the people from the crash...
It’s like he needed to feel cared for, to have someone love him deeply. And in the end, he spent all those years trying to make that illusion real — to finally meet lan zhu.
I don’t care about what the novel says — this has always been my personal interpretation, and I just wanted to share it, even if someone else might have said it before.
I’ve always related to Ling Qiu Shi in some way — maybe that’s why this story still lingers in my mind after all this time.

The actress playing Maggie is Thai, if I’m not mistaken. In the drama, her character is Chinese-American, but…
That makes sense! I actually thought it might be rooted in Chinese. Thanks for explaining🌟

I was wondering, some of the characters have quite different accents; they sound a bit Thai to me. Does anyone know where the accent is from or the reason behind it?
