just watched the last 3 episodes. i hate men. why did i have to be born one ugh!!
Hey, there are lots of good men out there. Just need to be baddies for this show. They are all of a "type" in this drama with no guilt or a sense of moral responsibility. We aren't dealing with marriages with financial dependency issues, blatant emotional abuse, physical abusive or chemical/alcohol dependency issues. Those themes would be even more heartbreaking if layered on top of this pile of dodo.
The postings will die down now that the first season is complete. I am not sure why I am so impacted by this drama but have to say I have done a lot of thinking during the last few episodes. On reflection, I do not put much after-thought to those dramas that give me a comfortable feeling once the ending credits finish. This generally will be with the MLs ending up together, a satisfying revenge scene or the one main lead moves on with self growth etc. These are the storylines I am drawn to and hence avoid a number of dramas Jdrama and Cdrama where the ending is sad. I skimmed the last seven episodes as had a hard time watching the roll out of the three cheat storylines. I have no personal experience with cheating but have found this show very hard to watch. I originally waited each week for the episodes to drop right up to when the flashbacks kicked in. I have now spent more hours on this and other forums than actually watching the drama!
I grew very attached, warts and all, to the three main characters; the three wives who have yet to be really fleshed out. I am thinking it may be just hard to watch, in slow motion, the upcoming train wrecks and can not fathom how these three husbands, regardless of their individual wants and needs, can sit every day for 10 months with their false faces eating, sleeping day in day out with their wives and families. There does not seem to be any guilt at all.
I have really tried to reframe my approach, to take it lightly and find comedy in some scenes such as the "apple", horses-riding, dress-up at the amusement park and the random "in her head" moments by the two-faced step mom; just really really hard on the heart.
At the end of it, given the horrible editing, random dialogue and WTH nonsense ongoing references to oriental medicine, the dog, food and bathing, I come to the conclusion we are just watching some really fine acting....cause the script is really lacking at times. Regardless, for not one moment did it not seem real to me.Therefore kudos to all the actors in the show both young and old.
In conclusion, I am uncomfortable with how Season One played out in the second half. I do have to say that it has make me think about the need for authentic communication, individual happiness, responsibilities within a marriage and trust itself.
So will be back for second season and, hopefully, some fierceness from the three wives. I hope they also find love again.
Hope to read your thoughts on next season!
PS: thinking this writer is hoping for multiple seasons; not just two.
First of all it is necessary to mention that cheating is ethically wrong whether it is done by men or women.I…
The youngest wife is a waste of screen time. The husband and his mistress are really popular and loved Korean actors. All the wife's behaviors are a set up for the audience to root for the secondary couple. The mistress even has her own sad personal real life story involving marital abuse and a miscarriage. No way she will be portrayed as an evil character. Considered an "angel" in Korea. Useless storyline as predictable. Except ahe may have refused sex and just ivf so he could get divorce.
Ok what’s getting on my last nerve here is we have sat here and watched the courtship of the 30’s husband…
That ship has sailed. Both the 30s husband and his mistress are well-loved actors in Korea so will continue with the vilification of the wife and they, the true soul mates, falling into pure fatalistic love. They now have a "love" duet sung by these two actors posted on You Tube. Waste of a storyline to make the wife so easy to dislike.
If you recall the first episode during the talkshow there was a diatribe between a wife and a 3rd party who very…
I have really switched up my thinking this week given how the last few episodes have played out, a announced second season and comments I have read on the ChosunTV website. I now believe the synopsis was misleading and am approaching the series as a story about nine people falling in love. First season focuses on the fact that six of the nine are married. The second season will move back to the three female leads as they navigate divorce and new relationships. What I find strange is that the three marriages have cheaters. They could have had one serial cheater, one midlife crisis and one who quickly knew he had married someone with whom he didnt fit.
I am convinced the Korean audience is loving this drama mainly, I believe, because of most of the main cast members are very well-known and loved actors there. They are gushing about the chops of the actor, Kim Bo-Yeon, playing the step-mom; seem to be as into her storyline as any of them. Sung Hoon, youngest husband, and Lee Ming Young, his mistress, are also well-respected, hence the vilification of the 30s wife. Probably, with the viewing demographic a 40s woman getting a miracle pregnancy is supported. I am thirsty for revenge but that may look like just new relationships for these three mains next season and I will love it! Regardless, I think the show will not be highly rated by Netflix international viewers. For us who lived for the weekly dropped episodes, we may be hanging in there but anyone picking of the series, once completed, will skim all the current episodes to get to the "meat". For me, I have been skimming and reading posts since episode 9. I am not watching this weekend; will wait til episode 15 or even 16 to pick up again.
I am reframing my take on this drama at this point. Someone posted on another site an upcoming song duet sung by the actors Sung Hoon and Lee Min Young (youngest husband and mistress). Track is called "With You Forever". So we have one newly created couple to live "happily ever after". So I have been perplexed and frustrated by the direction of this drama since episode 9 with so much time now being spent on the cheaters stories. I believe now I "lost" the theme of the drama synopsis in translation. This show, I am guessing, is really about the nine main characters falling in love; with just the little wrinkle, six of the nine are still married to each other in season 1. Wonder if I would have watched the series if I had known this at the start. Well, and mix in an evil step mother, childhood trauma, forbidden incestuous thoughts, herbal libido supplements, bathing options and a few pesky children.
I can not believe where the last half of this season is going. I really do no care to watch the three husband/mistress storylines as they begin dating and start falling in love. I can not understand the reason we are being expected to sit through this; to feel empathy and understanding? Just think this is filler actually to get us hooked for second season. I am, honestly, finding the intentional betrayals painful to watch and so not good for my soul. I have decided I will put myself out of my misery and drop this drama. Love the comments here and on other sites so can still keep track of how this show unfolds and pop back for episode 16 as will be a cliffhanger. I have skimmed through episodes 10, 11 and 12 via Netflix. Too bad Netflix has no comments section as interested in feedback from international viewers. My take is the show will be a bomb with the international audience. I am curious so will be monitoring the viewership in Korea to see if interest is waning for their domestic audience. I am aware that there are some big stars in this show and therefore they are a draw for Korean viewers. The step-mom, youngest husband and his mistress are super popular actors and agree the acting is fantastic by all the mains and support cast. We were told the drama would depict the demise of three marriages but didn't think we would be watching the three marriages blow up in real time...drip drip drip. I just think this drama could have been so much better if they had maintained the same pace we experienced in the first 9 episodes. Now we are in the second half of the season and it feels like the writers and director have been switched out. Too bad as believe one season could have been perfect. The three wives are listed as the focus of drama and I became attached, warts and all, to all three of them while watching the first 8 episodes. It is difficult now to see them oblivious to their upcoming betrayal and heartache; treated with the children as auxiliary participants in this second half of the season. My favourite scene so far was the confrontation between the 50s dad and the daughter. That episode did make me think a lot about a spouse's needs in relation to intimacy and the concept of determining our own happiness in a marriage. Also, what is love, and the expression of such day in and day out. I say this as I sit in a 30 year plus marriage. I find the storylines quite sad and the messaging is that you can not trust your significant other and the state of marriage is waste of your time and energy. Oh, and you better be sexy and available at all times.
Sadly, after watching this latest episode, I am predicting we will have at least two to four more episodes building the cheaters and mistresses stories. I do not want to know and certainly do not want to watch their duplicity. So much screen time for the middle husband and his "conquest" that I cant see they would not give the same amount of airing to the other two back-stories...and we have 10 months to cover. Ugh. I am worried we will have cliffhangers to get us to watch season 2. I am finding this too painful so will check postings and not watch from now on. There are lots of new shows so will put this on the back burner. Will be interested to see if the viewing % stay the same or change.
I certainly hope you are right. However I hope their revenge reinforces the strength of the three women.....I…
Wondering how this will play out. They do keep mentioning the coat and sounds like the coat is from a limited line, and of course, it isn't easy to miss. Ten months later you are back in colder weather. I just think the step-mom will play into the reveal somehow.
We have to ask why the writer is having us sit through, at this point of the drama, all the backstories of the husbands and mistresses for now two and possible three full episodes. It is so we can clearly see the conscious intention, day after day, by the husbands to betray their wives and families. Think of their false faces while those men continued to eat the food prepared for them, have sex with their wives, give honorable and moral talks to their children, issued lies about where they were and made false statements about their wives. These episodes are to remind us the husbands actively pursued the other women and this is not some mistaken or alcohol induced one night stand. They did this with intention.
And the calculating mistresses who are all aware they are in relationships with married men; some with children. Remember all the carefree scenes. Just shows the three women could care less about the impact of their relationships on the spouses and families. The writer is making sure we have little understanding or compassion for the three mistresses.
So why? So we burn people! Our thirst for vengeance is only growing. Think about it..very soon all three women will be in the same position. Notice, not one of the three wives really has family or a support structure to turn to so will be each other. This writer know we need retribution of some sort. And there will be revenge...and it will come in various forms.
Well, anyway, this is the new story in my head..I feel better and can get through this next week.
Can't wait for the second husband's soliloquy explaining to his wife why she is the only one he truly loves and the mistresses are just a need and his right. Forget that; probably lie to the end. It is creepy how we now know his MO and had the same feeling as those scenes with the step-mom with double words and close-ups. He knows exactly what he is doing. With this young woman, she is willing, yes, but you can see how he is grooming her.
I now believe the middle husband is having/had affairs with all three women and the oldest is here for revenge. Someone else noted the doctor, in episode 2, took two phone calls from different people in his car. I bet the first call was from the oldest who he blew off as probably trying to end the affair. The second call is from another mistress. He does seem to have a lot of time on his hands...dont see him working too much. Hell, may be the woman wearing glasses at the airport is the one he is actually going away with. Just trying to make this interesting in my head cause this latest episode was kind of boring.
Youngest couple: The youngest husband seems to finally see the impact of his actions. He seemed to believe the wife would just walk away and be fine with a divorce. I still think something is up with his "baby" but know it is probably just wishful thinking. So are he and his parents going to just drive around and finally he will take them home to the maid. Good ploy by the dad to get him to reveal the mistress. Middle couple: Just a hot mess right now Oldest couple:The oldest wife is so so passive; like a doormat. I would be throwing his clothes out the window but she even packs for him. I believe the writer wanted to place all the typical excuses and give voice to the betrayal felt by the families. I am sure they are not always voiced so, yes, it was a long couple of scenes and was daughter and not the wife speaking. I just don't think the wife's thoughts are any different. The wife certainly wouldn't have said all that in front of the kids but the daughter could. Loved it!! He suddenly feels "some" guilt but really just his pride is hurt. Thinks of himself as upright man...ha the looks on their faces while he is spewing out his crap excuses and rationalizations. And you see he is angry. Wow, in just a few minutes he went from respected head of the household to disowned stranger. I think the writer wants the audience exposed to the finality of the marriage and how selfish he really is. He is not getting it. Think the husband check out years ago as can rationalize with so little feeling. His sun and moon analogy was telling. He has felt burdened for years and unhappy; therefore no emotional attachment at all; else how could he say those words. Like he was finally able to reveal his true feelings which were disgusting to listen to. Feel sorry for the wife as wasted so many years and energy on him. Such a horrific couple of days for the poor wife...to see the man she loved reveal his true face would be hard to take; like diarrhea coming out of his mouth. I still think the mistress will dump him and he may try to come back. Or better yet; hope she has kids and makes his life a living hell.
With a second season I am unsure where this is going. Will they follow all six of them as they move forward whether together or not? I am worried they will string us along and not reveal the actual storylines. Ugh... Wasting too much time on this drama.
Can the writers please cut back in that creepy mother son relationship. It's starting to become very creepy and…
Like us, many posters are commenting on how creepy and uncomfortable this is. I would think there have been a lot of complaints by Korean viewers too. Regardless, the wife sure picked up on it quickly; wonder if there have been signs before.
The second husband and youngest wife are really hard to read. Can't tell if the second husband is oblivious or has some plan around the inheritance or maybe he thinks she murdered his mother and father. And what is the second husband's fetish about water and bathrooms. He is in alot of bathtub scenes and talks about her bathing him as a child. Ugh.. I will be really upset if it moves to an affair between these two. He comes across as so obvious spending days with her. He could have taken wife or daughter especially to a fun park.
Is the youngest wife going to go full on revenge and try to ruin his life? I like her but am thinking we will now have revealed that she is not a good person. I had hoped they could work it out but have a bad feeling where this may be going with the preview.
Holding back on the reveal of the adulterous relationships doesnt help as we haven't yet seen flashbacks to how they meet and currently interact.
I really don’t think that the lawyer is cheating. I feel like he is trying to get out of the marriage and cheating…
I really want to believe there is something else going on with the youngest husband. Maybe cause I like the actor so much and the wife is actually in alot of pain.
