Title Su Ji & U Ri Spoiler
Okay I’ll have to defend Soo Ji today. can’t you see she is not ready for a relationship? she loves him BUT her entire life she felt she was abandoned and felt like she had to do things to earn her parents affection. So now she has her mom back and she can figure that out but suddenly the man she likes is also someone she has to share her mom with. She envies their relationship, it’s childish. How could she chose him over the mom she longed for so much? As important the adoptions papers were for him, it’s important for her to be her mother’s daughter, why would she keep being the daughter of a woman she now recognizes as “just a lady who lives with my dad”? Doesn’t make sense. It is not fair for either of them. And it sucks they can’t just be all happy together. But she needs to figure out her place in the family without the romance. Anyway, am I bored about how she is going about all of this? Yes. Still, at least her character is consistent.

Review Su Ji & U Ri
I see what you mean, some criticism towards her could have been toned down (specially at the beginning) BUT there are moments in the story that she is really manipulative and behaves like a psycho. She stalks, lies and manipulates… Jeffrey Dahmer didn’t became a hero just because he was the main lead on his documentary, you know? So even if she was the Female lead, I would still see her as twisted.

Finished episode 3. Is still “Okay” the “mom is taking me away arch” is kinda tiring for me so I skipped some bits. There were a couple of times Prim’s Som-O gave me flashbacks of Xiao Xi (from the Chinese version), I think I’m getting used to the wig, they could have done better with that, if they wanted the short hair so much, it deserved more budget. It’s slow, Chad comes out as a mystery, he doesn’t speak much and he also doesn’t have scenes where we could learn what he is feeling/thinking and his expressions don’t convey much, can’t say yet if Dew is struggling expressing emotions without saying anything or if it’s the directing. I think it’s so funny his name is Chad, is kinda distracting. I think some people should definitely wait until all the episodes come out to start watching.

Who else is feeling like Woo Ri is Hyun Sun lost brother and there has been some accidental identity swap? We are just past the midway point in the drama and Soo Ji main plot is basically resolved, so I’m betting now there is going to be something big with Woo Ri. What if he is the heir of the Han family?

i really liked dew´s acting in F4 and home school, but his last 2 dramas has been so bad
That’s why casting is so important. It’s not just about being a good actor or having a huge fanbase. You’ve gotta fit the character. I feel like in F4, he really did well in a overconfident, ethically questionable, out of touch with reality persona who had a chance of change and redemption through romantic love. And Prim really did well with Kan, bringing a mature and spicy side to her. They were fantastic. The challenge with a Love so Beautiful is not only their characters are completely different from F4, is also a story we meet the characters at the beginning of their lives, we are seeing them become the characters that will later be in a romantic arch, which makes things more challenging. (And I dare say a bit boring, I always have been impatient with the HS portion in all the versions of A love so Beautiful)

“Not just anyone can be a doctor” lol
That’s both a truthful statement and a lie. I hate when people say this to be “realistic” be for real. You are bitter about how hard your path was or about how the system is. Medical school is different and fucking hard in every country BUT anybody can be a doctor. There are so many bad, awful doctors out there, people who definitely shouldn’t be. Depending on the process your country requires is much more about how well you do on a test than how a competent professional and decent human being you are. And if you figure out the system and have discipline you can be whatever you wanna be. I hate when people transfer their own personal shit into other people and wanna say what they can or cannot do. Like they know everybody’s limits, potential and situation.

I just finished episode 2 and I came here to see comments/spoilers/summaries of the next few episodes but there is just a bunch of people making the same general complains over and over again. I thought the first two episodes were okay. Want to see more from all the characters but I’m more excited for when they get to college. I hope the FL will keep drawing, even if she goes to a medical field, I hope she incorporates her drawings in her studies and in her profession. I loved that when he was studying, she was drawing, I hope she will realize how drawing can be a powerful tool. I have a friend who loves drawing but really loved biology, her parents help her decide to go to medical school, when she was studying to get into college she used to draw everything, make diagrams for concepts, to memorize names etc and once she got it she kept using it to aid her studies. She is wonderful with kids and people in general so I think this is definitely something the producers could use to strengthen the FL arch. I’m not going in with expectations though. That’s why I really wanted some insightful comments/spoilers. The first two episodes make me wish it gets better but I don’t wanna get my hopes up. I would rather just enjoy it for what it is.

I don't know it makes any difference for you but I assumed she was specifically in a rescuing team so while she has great survivor skills, she is more like a doctor and less like a soldier.

I do think you have a point with the music thing. I didn't pay much attention to that. And is something that really can manipulate the viewer's emotions. It could mean poor directing but also that the story itself is biased and intentionally like that.
I do remember it drastically changed when the FL pointed the gun at the glass walls, but in this specific case, I think it was to show how the little girl has seen her and tell us how their relationship was developing. In contrast, the detective's friend tells the little girl not to use the FL as an example, letting us know she is not necessarily correct; she is just doing what she wants.
I don't think you are being fair with the male lead. One could argue he was questioning the infected people's treatment: being clustered and frozen in a car. And he is kind of right as the Han Tae Seok wife is in a bed in a very spacious room and not with everyone else.
The main characters have criticized some of the authorities' choices, but they never really question the authority itself. They are cool with following orders, which is part of their job. While the FL has declared, she thinks the world should know about the details of the disease; I don't remember the ML ever making a statement about that.
One could argue caring about the residents doesn't necessarily mean telling them everything. Also, you don't need to care about people to respect their rights/humanity. Does that make sense? Like you can follow the law, but that doesn't make you a morally correct person.
The residents also didn't want to hear them, but honestly, I don't know why he has been holding on about the pills and I have been wondering about that too.
Thinking now, I guess you are right about the caring thing; so far, the ML has not shown genuine care for the residents, the only time he was into something was to bring justice over the dead, which is his job.
But yes, there are contradicting things as he cares about sick people who kill others; why is his attitude different towards the guy who killed his wife?
But again, I think stuff like that enriches the story. Still, we have to wait and see as we can only make assumptions about the writer's intention without the complete work.
I guess it is a very frustrating episode.

Well, they try to save everybody. And especially in the first episodes they act in a very pretentious way. Like the ML is the best detective and nobody is perfect under the FL eyes. Those kinds of comments by other characters sets them apart as outstanding and the fact that they use that in their favor to keep being impulsive feeds that narrative. I don't think they have a hero syndrome in a way that means they are intentionally creating dangerous situations to be recognized by others but they do put themselves in danger (sometimes without necessity because of their impulsiveness) for the sake of others. Hope that makes sense.

First 2 episodes were really strong. However, episode 3 failed in so many ways especially the direction of Sae…
I think the FL is actually in the medical branch of the terrorism unit or something, I got the impression she doesn't actually solvers terrorist attack's, instead she comes to the field to rescue people and treat them. I maybe wrong but that actually matches her actions like the way she interrogates and approaches people is different from the ML, she is always going into a direction of "treating a patient," while when he is in action he is always looking for answers in the space and thinking about he situation overall.

I was soo looking forward to this and I still appreciate the drama and respect the actors, but I can't help but…
I am loving the show but I agree it is not a very impactful comeback since this is a very specific genre and it seems the writers will take it in a direction in which the story is more about the place and the community than the stories of the main characters. Dramas like a strong woman which have a story focused on the main character development are very different and tend to be more popular and make their actors more popular too as a consequence. It's also easier to completely love a character when they have more screen time than everyone else and we get the chance to understand them better and relate to them.

I totally agree! I wished people didn't classify the entire drama bad only because the main character's decisions are questionable, specially because it is only 4 episodes in.

Can you explain for me the issue with the pill? I must have missed something. I thought it was used for a pneumonia…
So far I understood that an international lab developed it for pneumonia but it had terrible side effects and turned people into Zombies, a lab in Korea stole the formula without knowing it and started producing and selling it. Once they discovered it they took it out of the marked. The details of what happened overseas were not explained but they have mentioned countries have started lockdowns. To make things worse the CEO used the pills and developed the condition, because he is insane and figured the only way for a cure to be developed was for more people to be infected he leaked the medication to drug dealers and that's how it started to spread again.

I can't entirely agree on a couple of things, but I'll mention the things I agree with first. Both FL and ML have some hero syndrome and are reckless in different ways. But I don't think that's been left unaddressed or has been in any way set up as the "right" way of doing things. I think the writers are setting them up for failure, and it already shows. When the FL entered the Drs couple apartment alone, and all the situation happened in the end, the male lead asked her to tell him before going into people's places alone. It is subtle, but we can see that at least one of them recognizes that things could have gone south. And when he arrests the men and ends up locked up, he kinda apologizes/explains himself to her when he says, "I was going to tell you when it was confirmed." This moment shows us that he felt guilty and noticed his hypocrisy. Because it is followed by a hug that becomes a romantic moment, it is left unaddressed. But if it is intentional, this is a good thing as many things happen like this, especially in moments of distress.
These moments make me feel the show will take them on a journey to communicate better and think before acting. Learning from these issues will also help their relationship as a couple to evolve.
Usually, dramas use the "opposites attract" cliche with couples, so I find it very refreshing and exciting how ML and FL are extremally alike. I cannot wait to see what the writers will do with them.
The fact they are imperfect is a good thing; it will give them a character arc. The writers may never verbally address it, like making them say, "I was wrong when this happend," but if the writers do us right, we could be seeing changes in behaviors as they face different challenges and grow together.
Now about the hypocrisy, you are correct that they are being prepotent and hypocrites, but again I don't think it is not being addressed. That is part of the show's beauty and is what makes it, in some ways, lovely. When the woman who represents the tower talked about real state value and the FL was mad about it, later at night, she reflected on it and acknowledged that in some ways, the woman was right, even if she hated her behavior. The contrast and coincidences are intentional. You said that "both leads act self-righteously, criticizing people left and right, but they make the same types of mistakes as the people they criticize the people of" like is a bad thing, but I don't think it is. I think it starts a conversation about finding things in common despite our differences, respect, and tolerance since we clearly can see that the main characters are not entirely correct; they also are making questionable decisions regarding morals and ethics.
The ML has no idea about the Lt. Colonel's family situation; he believes they are healthy and safe somewhere. The point in that dialog is that in a case where loved ones are in danger, people can still have different opinions on how to solve their problems. The point was not the ML being right (even though he thinks he is).
One of the things I love about this show so far is how it triggers the viewer to think about ethics; all these issues and the decisions the main characters have to face are ethical dilemmas.
For example, was locking people in without proper knowledge of the situation the best decision?
Maybe locking them in was the best decision for the country, but it was cruel not to let the entire complex know they were exposed to the source of the infection: the gym. Even though the community didn't like the government's decision, they did the same thing. By thinking the source was a specific apartment, the community isolated its tower and didn't properly communicate with them cruelly and selfishly. In an ironic turn of events, they end up protecting the residents of the building by isolating them. And now, some of them have a chance to survive.
Because there are too many coincidences, and I already can see some arcs coming full circle like this one, I believe the writers are extremally intentional and subtly addressing things. We will have to wait and see if they will be able to keep it up. Hopefully, they will not get lost in the middle, and this will be a great show.
