Me too. I actually don't like it when remakes is just a carbon copy of the original, as what's the point of a remake then.
2023 definitely has been a revelatory year for C-dramas. There are so many more quality dramas in different genres (esp in the suspense/sci-fi/non-romance genres) and breakthrough plot lines than previous years, and I'm quite excited for what's to come in 2024. π
FYI, this is the Chinese-adaptation of One Spring Night. The production team bought the copyright, but adapted the script to better fit the Chinese audience.
Just a suggestion for a better watching experience, I'd recommend just taking the C-version characters separately from the K-version, as the script made enough changes that they're better examined as different characters. The K-version is more contemplative, whereas the C-version is more edgy, and they really capture different spirits of the same story step-up.
For example, most of the edge from the K-FL's personality has been removed and placed onto the C-ML. The C-FL has a softer, more hesitant personality, whereas the C-ML is darker, and more jaded and calculative, with a sharp and deadpan sense of humor that was not in the K-ML. Their relationship is also driven a bit more by the ML than the FL in the C-version.
It might be too early on to tell, but I immediately felt the difference in 'quality' between this version and…
I'm wondering if some of the nuances are lost in translation? I actually like ZWY better here than in Fantastic Doctor, as he's doing a great job with the subtleties of his character.
It'd probably be best to take the K- and C-version of the ML as two separate characters, as Zhao Jin is darker, more intentional, and almost calculative to a degree. He's got a sharp and deadpan sense of humor, and seem more jaded in general. The K-version came across to me more as a sad puppy beaten by the trials of life.
I actually find the differences in the K- and C-performances very interesting, as the same lines in the K-version seem almost self-deprecating, whereas the C-version has more of an edgy sarcasm.
Cang Xuan fans, please let me know if I missed anything: https://kisskh.at/discussions/lost-you-forever/120191-are-cang-xuan-and-xiao-yao-blood-relatives-in-the-drama
I started off as TSJ shipper because I love Deng Wei however by the end of s1 his character is just too weak for…
I actually think your trajectory makes total sense and is actually better than being committed to any ship, since you're able to enjoy the drama as a whole.
Even thought i have a soft spot for Cang Xuan, i can understand why she fell in love with someone else. But i…
Same same. I'm prepared for what's to come (I think the title "Lost You Forever" kind of gives it away π), but it will definitely be a wild emotional ride

Agreed. As a YaoXuan and CX fan, I understand and respect XY's choice. It's ultimately her life. But as a viewer, I'm also most touched by XY and CX's relationship, especially in ep 38, when they're fighting side-by-side, fully entrusting themselves to the other, and totally in sync as well.

Yup, though I try not to let too much out, just the critical pieces. Thanks for the invite =), it looks like you guys had quite the discussion on all the potential changes in S2.

π I don't know if it's self-selection, but Chinese CX and YaoXuan fans tend to be more quiet and on the P&L side as well. We only get a bit nutty when great CX and YaoXuan scenes/BTS are released.
The more I watch, the more I felt bad for CX and at some point, I really ship him and XY together π₯Ίπ₯Ί
hahaha. It seems like CX has the slowest burn. At the start of the series, most people only regarded him as an afterthought, but it seems like as the series go on, CX as a character is seeping into more people's hearts.
all my admiration for ZWY. i just finished episode 25 and i must say ZWY's acting skills were amazing in that…
Yea, that scene was really something else. He continues being amazing in later episodes too, and it sounds like he may get even better (hard to imagine) in Season 2 as well. =)
