Technically the FL only has a clear love line with SML. The ML1 love line is mostly one-sided, and the ML3 love line is a push-pull relationship that's also primarily one-sided.

I'm mostly watching for the great acting here, since you don't see period idol dramas with this caliber of acting talent often. The story also is rich with love between family, interesting side characters, and TBH, I find the FL and ML super interesting and rich characters even without the romance lines.

It seems like picking and choosing to watch certain scenes is already a common practice for this drama, especially given all the shipping wars, so you may find yourself fancying a watch that way.

Controversy is the best way to generate discussion. 😉 LYF wouldn't get nearly the same level of popularity if the ML was a perfect library of the most desirable attributes in romantic interests.

Maybe everyone should first get an internship on the CX ship, since the amount of character criticism (don't ask me to quote how many times I've seen the words "cruel", "ruthless", "vicious" to describe CX from even just today's earlier comments, much less the stuff he got in the earlier QingShui Village episodes) hasn't gotten much as a blink from most CX fans. Mostly b/c it's fairly accurate 🤣, and he deserves to get a beating from the audience 🤦‍♀️.

Yea, based on small scale fallouts from YaoXuan fans surrounding this exact discussion on Douban, it will definitely be bad.

It has been floating around among C-nets for a while now, and based on how well it matches to the show in S1, it's very likely authentic. One fan also bought the shooting schedule, which is how we knew that CX's scene to save XY in Meilin fire was removed at the last minute. (Jingye also had a line in the actual released drama that confirmed this, since the line was no longer internally consistent with how the drama unfolded).

I know! I loved how it played out in the novel, with so much more layered emotions and potential for amazing acting. But alas, it is what it is.

Hi. I saw your comments before you deleted them, but just wanted to give a quick apology if I sounded too harsh in my earlier comment, as it's probably a reaction to all the underhanded CX-bashing that's been in the comments section for awhile now.

I'd be totally fine if you'd said, "Jing was intelligent and strategic and gave himself selflessly to support CX, playing an important part in his rise to power", but it's something entirely different to say that CX wouldn't become king without Jing, as that's undercutting an important aspect of CX's character. Fans should be able to defend TSJ by his own attributes, and there is plenty to refer to, without making other characters indebted to him ("w/o Jing, CX wouldn't becoming king" basically infers that).

Same logic in my comment regarding Jing's role in saving XY, as one can say the same to YaoJing fans, that Jing owes both CX and XL for XY's life. (And if one is going by the novel, the Jing also owes XL his own life).

3. Ah Nian still gets to play that role somewhat, as she bore witness to his sacrifice but made a promise to him to never tell XY the truth. I think Sir Bi was probably to expensive for CGI/costuming since he's not exactly a human. 😂

6. I know...definitely not happy about this. Probably the only change in the script that I'd vehemently oppose. The word used in the script was 王位. Even if they used another word, like 天下, I'd find that much more acceptable, as it's true that he holds too much responsibility to simply give everything up just for XY, but his reason was coming more from the responsibility he holds to keep peace in the land and protecting his people, rather than mere greed for power.

7. See my comment above. There is some hope that we may get a scene with XY and her mom.

I heard rumors though that YangZi strongly requested to still have a scene with her mother, and it was one of the last scenes filmed. In the script, her mom already died in battle, unlike in the novel, where she barely hung in there as a desert beast, so I'm not sure if this would mean a scene with her mom's spirit or in a dream?

1. The poison scene occurs in the same dream state, after the confrontation scene between CX and XY.
2. Nope, XY doesn't die a second time
3. Ah Nian basically replaced Sir Bi's role.
4. XL still takes XY's blood, but I don't recall what it's used for instead
5. XL still made a ton of sacrifices to break the poison bug, so you're safe on that
6. XY still leaves CX. The ending is basically the same, just the journey there is a big different. In the script, she felt angry and betrayed that CX did not punish Xin Yue properly for her role in TSJ's death, but her relationship with CX was fine at the end, and she married with CX's blessings. It seems like she left just to live a quiet life with TSJ. I also find this to be pretty weak to warrant the title of the drama, "Lost You Forever". We'll see if the drama changes things, since based on the way things are written, I'd think XY would still want to visit CX regularly given how close they are, but the script still ends with CX searching for XY, without a hint of where she's at. 😮‍💨😠
7. Yes, the whole desert beast line is cut, probably due to budget concerns. The Haoling king was the one who told XY the truth, and she had a moment by herself in her mom/dad's old residence.

XL's death is treated largely the same way as it is in the novel, as is XY's reaction (being that her memory in the mirror erased and largely unaware of the full scale of XL's love for her). The doll is also kept, but the deliverer was changed to Ah Nian, who bore witness to XL's perspective.

The one big change is that XL is no longer the one who saved TSJ. TSJ saved himself with a pill that XY gave him for emergencies.

Yea, I actually consider drama CX and novel CX as different characters now given how much the drama has changed him, almost like two parallel universes.

I'm just glad that the scene is kept in the drama in its own way, as I'm really looking forward to YZ and ZWY giving some unforgettable performances.

It's super long and floating around on Weibo as a giant PDF file if you know Chinese and where to look. It's also not 100% certain that the actual show will follow the leaked script exactly, as there were some differences based on S1. However, most of the lines were a close match, word for word.

For example, the script actually had CangXuan go into the fire when Xiaoyao died in Meilin, and his servants only smacked him unconscious after he saw XY's lifeless body and overcome with emotions. However, the drama removed this scene (supposedly as a last minute decision on the day of the actual shooting).

Just wanted to add as a spoiler that based on the leaked script for Season 2, the plot had some major changes, and in the drama, CX did not kill TSJ. It was Xin Yue's plot that was responsible for TSJ's supposed death. The confrontation between XY and CX actually occurred in a dream state, and CX realized through this experience that while he was tempted to kill TSJ, it was not worth hurting and losing XY for.

I don't want to continue the animosity from today but just wanted to say this as I keep seeing this again and again, which is getting really annoying from a CX-fan perspective.

Please stop bringing CX into the shipping wars between TSJ and XL, whether it's to justify TSJ's merits as the enabler of CX's throne (btw not true, happy to have an extended and civil debate on this), or equated with XL in some capacity just to bash TSJ. He's a living, breathing character, beloved by fans, and not just some sandbag to be thrown around like a dispensable weapon for someone else's shipping war.

Also, it's getting extremely annoying to see teasers of CX-bashing based on something that hasn't even happened in the show, like "oh you'll hate him after you see what he did in XXXX". We don't even have assurance on whether the show will follow the novel, and it's extremely unfair to judge and criticize a drama character based on what hasn't even occurred onscreen yet. The drama CX is already very different from the novel CX, owing partly due to writing changes and mostly to Zhang Wanyi's amazing performance, and deserve to be examined on its own. (I'd say the same should hold true for drama TSJ and XL, but the convos here are already mixing up drama and novel like they're one and the same).

Please leave CX out of your shipping wars. He doesn't owe TSJ the throne, and he's definitely not some sandbag that one can throw around just to prove the merit of your favorite character. It'd also be remiss to attribute XY's life to Jing alone, as she wouldn't be alive without any one of the 3 men.
