The fact that you/many others see it as only something catering to "straight girls" and not on the story the producers are telling is where the problem lies and probably why its never taken seriously bcs why would someone work hard and tell a story and you just group it into catering to straight girls? bg/gl all fall under the LGBTQ umbrella but when ppl want to be messy while rating a show they go "this is not bl but lgbtq" like boys romance isnt that already. if ppl who constantly watch queer shows are prejudiced like this towards the labelling of works under the umbrella by constantly putting classes on them then what do i expect from anyone else.
