Yanhui Goes Goth

Another great episode with lots of plot advancement. Love how Yanhui stays true to her nature from the beginning by NEVER GIVING UP. Spoilers: The Heart Protecting Scale keeps her alive at the bottom of the Dark River. So she uses this time of solitude to finally master the Ghostly Eulogy. This transitions her to a new, 'Dark Yanui' form! And she means business! The return arc for the leads is under way!

Not a happy ending for this episode. But wow.

Wow. Spoiler: This episode ends with both ML & FL apparently 'dead'. That's pretty much the lowest point the series could get, right? Of course, with 9 more episodes to go, it obviously isn't that simple. Aside from whatever this leads to, this was a very emotionally intense episode and I gotta give major props to Zhou Ye (the FL) for delivering a helluva performance in this episode. She displayed intense pain, despair and defiance - heck, even kindness and compassion -- all while mostly chained to one spot. Such a great actor.

This was a good, event-filled episode, but…

This was a good, event-filled episode, but tough to watch as the good guys took a lot of painful hits. One giant question looms. It's been there all along in this series but is really magnified in this episode: The question is: Just how on earth do the Taoist clans consider themselves, "good"? Their elders seem to be objectively evil or duped by evil at every turn. And all the young disciples foolishly just (a) act astonished when an elder does something horrific and evil and then (b) act like everything is normal. If there are 'good' aspects to the Taoists, this series has not shown it. By everything presented, they are just awful, awful people.

Five Stars

Great episode. Lots of backstory about multiple characters is revealed and the relationship between Yanhui and Tianyao is completely clarified and solidified as a truly married couple. They have a long road ahead still to overcome obstacles but hopefully can do it working together all the way, like when they were doing so in the early episodes.

Five Stars

Good episode. Aside from the wedding, the plot really finally kicks into high gear as the heroes make a move but the villains make a counter move that puts the heroes on their heals. Also, most of the players are finally revealed. No time wasted with 'time filler' crap in this episode.

This episode as pretty good, as the ML & FL start to take rough, awkward steps towards reconciliation within the formalities required for their marriage, as required by the Ghostly Eulogy. The only negative part of this episode was having to endure a long 6-minutes-that-felt-like-30-minutes shameless appeal for sympathy/proxy guilt by Bai Xiao Sheng, thrown at Yun Hui as he once again confesses. In this, he plays the 'woe is me I was abandoned by my mother' card, trying to guilt her into accepting him. Listening to this crap seemed to go on forever and was only saved by her polite but firm rejection. At this point, I really wish the writers would stop with all the screen time devoted to BXS trying to control and manipulate Yan Hui. Especially with trying to make it 'funny'. He's a serial liar and multiple-time murderer. It isn't funny.

Oh thank god they finally moved past all the bad, awkward humor of trying to fake a relationship between FL and a lying murderer. The series is by far more interesting when both ML & FL are on screen and so this episode got better as it progressed.

God, just skip this horrible episode. It is just a filler episode that tries to humorously show that Bai Xiao Sheng and Yan Hui are NOT a real couple and have zero chemistry. But the humor is forced and if anything really uncomfortable to watch, given that BXS is a continuously deceitful lying manipulator and a murderer of a huge number of people - including his mother. Nothing much otherwise really happens in this episode.I really hope the show doesn't try to paper over the fact that BXS is a murderer and make him seem like an sympathetic character. That would be disgusting.

Yeah, as I surmised at the end of last episode, the writers made Tianyao act like a complete idiot in order to create a cliche sub-story arc where the ML & FL will be separated and she will seemingly reject him and they will seemingly be irreconcilable. And they are even adding BXS as a potential competing love interest. There will be some trials and growth for both ML & FL now on separate tracks that eventually lead back together at the end. I'm very sad that the writers are not being original.

The writers are really messing with us. What…

The writers are really messing with us. What is their definition of a 'pure heart'? Tianyao's treatment of Yanhui can not possibly qualify. And while it would make sense for him to need his HPS back to go rescue the kids, why couldn't he take 2 minutes to _explain_ that to Yanhui, BXS & Xiao Yan? Why do the writers make a multi-thousand-year-old entity act so absurdly impulsively and stupidly? All of this feels like plot contrivance to create an arc of episodes with the ML & FL separated and seemingly not reconcilable. Just like every other cliche' drama. Very disappointed with the turn that this series just took.

The writers of this series once again keep leaning into plot-induced-stupidity. The scene where Pitiful Clam tricks Zhou Fei into lowering her weapon is particularly offensive. It was just plain unbelievably stupid and insulting to our intelligence.

Most of this final episode was fine and made sense. But the very last minute or so came off as a weird public service announcement appeal for selfless patriotism. This was bizarre and not exactly a satisfying resolution of the romantic struggle the two leads had finally concluded. For anyone watching after reading this. Just stop watching right after Wei Yun says, "I will".

Five Stars

Back on track. Still salty that they made the FL act so stupid last episode, but they resolved it and at least have moved past the need to maintain that stupid deception. Outside of that one glitch, this series continues to be top quality in all aspects. Things have slowed down a little from the early episodes hectic pace, as various relationships get established.

Three Stars

This was the first disappointing episode because the writers have resorted to plot-induced-stupidity on the part of Chu Yu in thinking she could get away with stealing the fish tally. That made zero sense and she's always been way too clever before this. So it feels totally contrived just so the writers can now have several episodes of Wei Yun and Chu Yu mistrusting each other instead of working together. This series has so far been so good at avoiding such blatantly weak plot devices so this is a real disappointment. I hope they can resolve it quickly and get past it and not use such plot gimmicks again.Everything else about this episode was great. Just such a letdown that they did this to her character for no good reason.

Way, way too much plot-induced-stupidity in this episode. Both the defense of the bridge by the 48S and the attack of same by Disha are comical. It's as if a middle-schooler who has never researched how a medieval fortification is defended / attacked wrote this scene up. I felt like I was watching a middle-school play.Deng's overly emotional reaction to bad news and immediate ruin of their defense of the gate was just beyond silly. Also, the stupidity of sending A'Yan down the mountain all alone is pure plot contrivance to setup her being rescued by Yang - saw that coming a mile away. And then little things like a scene where A'Fei impulsively and stupidly steps out into plain sight of the enemy guards - purely contrived so that Xie would pull her back into a romantic hug. Stuff like this is so weird and at odds with the reality that the characters would be facing in these circumstances.
