I was directed to this review by someone else in the comments and it is so well written. I enjoyed your writing and humor, I cackled. I think a 3 is quite low, but I confess I'm a newbie to omegaverse so I probably have a more gracious perspective. I love long rambly reviews, I think it's what makes MDL worth it. This is what I want to see when I open the MDL page for a story, a person that is willing to engage with a piece of media critically. I had different reading of characters like Hua Yong and Sheng Shao You though, but I enjoyed your perspective still. All in all, great review, made me chuckle
I waited the whole episode for that scene and you ended it there ?!?
Lol, liking that couple is torture at this pointπ€·πΏββοΈπ i thought them cutting out Ma Heng meant they wanted to do MORE for that storyline but apparently not
Fu Yong Jie is a menace to society and he needs to be locked up π€·πΎββοΈ
I'm not going to hate on anyone that finds him cute or anything, it's okay to be fascinated by the unusual, but to try and spin his behaviour as anything but deeply creepy and unsettling? Nope.
First off, he stalks and breaks into his brother's house... He literally could've just called him or something π€·πΎββοΈ
He goes on to assault his brother's roommate? I mean come on, Mu Teng didn't deserve that, and it goes to show how unhinged Yong Jie is... It's like foreshadowing.
And then he gets his brother drunk and rapes him, and when he does the whole, "but I won't kiss you because you need to be sober"? Come on now. He's too drunk to kiss but let me go ahead and rape him?
And he's doing all this in the name of trying to get him to come out of the closet and protect him from stigma but goes on to recklessly kiss him in front of his roommates? Forcing him out of the closet, violating him thrice over, rape him, kiss him without his consent and then expose his sexuality willy nilly? And not even be a bit apologetic about what he did? Jail! Prison!
I mean did you see how horrified and terrified his stepbrother looked? But of course it's Yong Jie and he can always get worse and so he does. When his stepbrother doesn't want to talk to him after he raped him, he then emotionally blackmails him by sending him a picture of himself at the edge of a high building, insinuating suicide? Come on man, Yong Jie is seriously unwell. I didn't even care about his little "this is how it feels being in love with you". It was blackmail, it was so iffy and manipulative...
Having done all that, he then has video of him raping his brother, why stop at rape when you can also add revenge porn right? Which he shows to his stepdad?? Like that right there has to count as some form of SA. Like? This boy is a menace. And he does all this under the guise of looking out for his stepbrother, but after dropping this bomb, he doesn't even give his stepbrother a heads up that his dad already knows, leaving him still unprepared and still unsupported in his coming out... He drops this bomb and then disappears.
And I know someone will say he staying away out of some sense of self sacrifice or something but please, someone can be cute and evil. The boy is just wickedπ€·πΎββοΈ... And when that gets resolved, he is asked and promises to wait for things to settle down before they can announce their relationship to the dad, but what's the first thing he does? Try to break that promise, almost immediately. And then he has a conversation about how he almost broke it, but won't, just to break it the very next scene ππ
Don't get me started on his little journals, I mean sure, some may say it showed how much he cared for his brother but I can't ignore the alcohol thing, do you know how long he was plotting with that rapist business? Throw away the key!π
I liked this show, however I just had to build my case against Yong Jie. He ain't right, their relationship is not right at all... I mean the parents are also to blame. The mom seems to be very aware of the monster she raised but she is his biggest enabler and the dad is blinded by his biases and his a mediocre dad at best because what he took away from being shown revenge porn of his son is very interesting...
And in no way is any of this ever addressed, so really how is it a happy ending that they end up together if Yong Jie still doesn't see a problem with any of his behaviour... The stalking, rape, manipulation and controlling his brother... Just a weirdo through and through
