I think the real grandson and grandmother meeting from the beginning would have had a different dynamic. I think they needed the idealized version Jae Hun created to make it easier to face the pain of their real life relationship. Otherwise, he probably would've stolen grandma's cash, been misunderstood by his cousins, and would stay in trouble. He wasn't bad but he was definitely troubled and angry.

Here are the highlights…When the grandmother awakes after coming close to death Jae Hun tells her that he is not her real grandson. She tells him that he knows. He has also created a play based on the whole experience that he performs for the whole family including the real Moon Sung. The grandmother dies and leaves all of her grandchildren shares which saves the hotel. The oldest grandson and his wife plan a vacation. The middle grandson decides to buy the theater and finally seems to have a steady interest. Moon Sung plans to return to SK legally through China. Se Yun and Jae Hun go on a date.

So I thought I was watching a revenge plot about a hard worker who was betrayed by the company he was loyal to but now it looks like it’s a guy reflecting on the person he helped destroy in order to try to achieve success. Maybe I am wrong (since I definitely have not read the book) but I think the anti hero thing is maybe him reflecting on his past life not redeeming it.

Even if I’m waaaay off this ending made me super curious about the last episode. I’m rewatching episode 1 now!

I think the end of episode 15 is epic. Do people really hate the idea of an anti-hero so much? Theory below, as I try to catch up with all the posts I missed.

For me (now on Ep 4) she’s always stubbornly doing things causing chaos and then making these wide eye faces over it. Maybe that’s supposed to be the funny part but right now it’s frustrating.

I just started this drama and the FL/character is so annoying I can’t really enjoy it. I’m on Ep 3. Please tell me she gets less annoying or let me know if I should just drop it now.

Before you respond with more of your biased and clearly limited perspectives on Africa as a whole, based on google and 2 trips, you may want to try to read what I actually wrote again instead of doubling down against arguments I didn't make.

SK is not above having stereotypes in their shows challenged. Especially as they build a wider global audience. You even went after comments from people actually from Africa. Are they not allowed to have opinions of their own about what they prefer to watch and not watch?

You have proven my point though. That snowflake comment is revealing a lot of implied racism after all. Cherry-picking problems to define people is the exact issue. You bring up rape and violence out of nowhere to make what point exactly? And by Africans do you mean Black people in Africa - not Elon Musk types certainly - so again that's sounding pretty racially biased aka racist aka maybe you're not the best authority on deciding what's considered racist or not.

You can't visit two places and generalize a whole continent based on your experience there alone. The racism part is reducing an entire continent negatively and subjugating them based on generalizations.

The complaints I saw while watching were mainly from people who didn't appreciate what seemed to be a one-dimensional cliché view of Africa as a general place. It wasn't bad enough to offend me, but It's a valid criticism in my opinion, and to reply to that with the comment "Come on snowflake" to me is not only insulting it shows your inability to empathize.

The world is full of dangerous places and beautiful places and some balance views of that would be nice that didn't just reinforce stereotypes. There is racism in justifying stereotypes and trying to silence people who challenge that. More so than people just "staring" at you, which sounds super subjective if you're a literal tourist. Maybe those stares were them thinking "come on snowflake" at you.

Regardless, the volunteer in Africa trope is overdone. If you're a person tired of seeing it again and again with barely any other view of Africa to counter it, I can see why you may have dropped the drama during those scenes. Luca was meant to be a heartwarming character but that part of the story fell flat.

I decided to start again with this drama and I am liking it but...

Even though I know this little girl is supposed to be precocious and cute , to me she's super obnoxious and irritating. The young actress plays the part well but the character is the worst rude brat.

Thx : ) And that makes total sense, although I never finished "A Korean Odyssey".
