I developed such a crush for Lee Soo Hyuk with this show! His plotline as Cha Doo Ik with Jina was really heart-fluttering. Maybe because their screen time was shorter, the writing felt tighter and more appropriate in pace.
Also the new ost (part 16) that we all thought was hjp anthem, was used during the kiss scene. What a disgrace.…
Ugh. What a misuse of an ost??!
Eunji actually just posted promoting the ost - she said it was recorded before the drama. Makes me wonder even more why they left this one till so late given the letter's significance in the first half? Also she ended the post with "Fighting Jipyeong", Eunji knows what's up! xD
If they introduce IU in the end it would be a nice setup.
But for instance Park Bo Gum's in Itaewon Class was a total surprise till the airing, right? Or did they release something some hours/days before that?
I wrote this elsewhere but, I really think that PHR was trying to go for something fresh and "subverting of expectations/conventions"…
On a sidenote, another little thing that had me scratching my head is just *why*, after all the pain, closure etc, the writers still thought it was a good idea to have that moment of SDM catching HJP in ther arms. Just... why, writers?
I wrote this elsewhere but, I really think that PHR was trying to go for something fresh and "subverting of expectations/conventions" - it was a good premise, but execution-wise she really messed up. The principle that most comes to mind to me to explain it Chekhov's gun (wiki):
" Chekhov's gun is a dramatic principle that states that every element in a story must be necessary, and irrelevant elements should be removed. Elements should not appear to make "false promises" by never coming into play: " "Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's nt going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there."
- The letters? Chekhov's gun - Yeongshil's good ball? Chekhov's gun - Bo Young's cameo? Chekhov's gun - SDM's scene where she said she'd be there when HJP needed? Chekhov's gun
Also a drama from this exact same writer and Suzy as lead - Dream High (though I confess I was for first lead…
I think Taecyeon was initially meant to be, but then again not 100% sure! They did share a kiss first, somewhat midway through the series (with KSH watching from a distance and being heartbroken, maybe that's what made him at least have that feel of 2nd lead "type").
Seriously, all my love for Soo Ah as a character! Steadfast, competent, kind and mature. She stuck to her values and worked hard in her own way for so long to keep her promise to Mr Park, pretty much single-handedly bringing down Jangga for good. At the same time, she was mature in letting Saeroyi go and you could tell she genuinely always rooted for his happiness, all to the very end. You go girl!
I also highly recommend another time-travel/romance/mystery Tdrama, Back to 1989 :)
Hm, it's been a while since I watched it. I think yes, it does get a bit wearier towards the end (e.g the mother's plotline when young) but overall I still think the plotline / acting and the way it blends elements of romance + mystery + time-travel + friendship are worth it! :)
For those who already finished this, would you recommend Misty despite its ending (is the ending that bad, btw?)?
Definitely recommended! Regarding the ending (w/o spoiling), I think the build-up and ending was logical, well-thought and intense, so in that sense it won't let you down. How to say it... it's more in the way that you end up being immersed in the universe and bonding with the characters that you'll probably feel strongly/emotionally about the true resolution.
Gah, these last few episodes have broken me inside - my mind is drained.
Such a jewel of a drama though. Really well-crafted characters, intense dialogue and relations and a plotline that always keeps plowing forward and keeps you on your toes.
Can I just say I appreciate your referencing? =)
It's a breath of fresh air to get access to source material for pieces whem so many times things boil down to "he said" / "I heard" / "It's been said".
(are you in the academic world by any chance? =P)

I could go on...
Just why writers, why?
Dare we hope?
