I'm loving the lightheartedness and cooking parts of the drama. And it's a very refreshing take on isekai.

But I find the side plot mommy issues of the King unteresting. It feels like a lazy flashback mystery that's been overdone.

Also can't tell if the king yearns for a lover or a mother.

This show went beyond my expectations and tugged every piece of capacity I have for emotions, character attachment, heartache, and heartwarming moments. AND no matter how much I hype it up to other people, their expectations will still be blown away and the hype is always beyond justified!!! Never felt so many emotions in a long time.

And after rewatching it a few times, I realized I missed SOOO many foreshadowing and details!! You can really tell this show is the writer's baby and wrote the show like the precious art it truly is with tremendous amount of love, as shown in the in depth characterization and storytelling of EVERY SINGLE protagonist and antagonists. The film crews are also fully committed to crafting and executing it to its fullest potential.

The only criticism I have is pretty nitpicky. It does play with some propaganda of (country unnamed for spoilers), and the family themes subtly feel like an attempt to promote the idea of parenthood for the purpose of boosting birth rates in Korea. Despite thoroughly enjoying the stories, and I'm not bothered by it at all, I think it's important to be aware and critical of any glorified portrayal of unconditional parental love in a tv show, considering how it might influence our own life choices with the emotional attachment these stories create. However, none of the messaging seem disingenuous, it was definitely used more towards perfecting the story than to be preachy.

Overall, watch this show if you want to see every genre executed to perfection! One thing I am so impressed with is how they can write some of the best romance I've seen out of all the kdramas I have watched in my lifetime.
On Death's Game Part 2 Jan 7, 2024
This show was good and entertaining, but it's superficial. I wish there was more nuance and sensitivity in the writing. They kind of preached the same "selfish and ungrateful" narrative of suicide victims without exploring deeper complexities of pains and suffocation they are facing in the world. The wrap up felt like a government PSA telling people to "stop being miserable and just be grateful for the life you're given" It would be valuable if they also explored how community support can be a meaningful solution, not just relying solely on the suicidal victims' guilt and self-improvement. While it's not problematic, I also noticed a lot of Christianity motifs in both parts of the show, which does blur the lines between subliminal religious preaching and philosophical enigmas. I'm only mentioning it as something to be aware of.

The acting was generally strong, but lacked emotional nuance once again because the writing and characterization itself lacks depth. I think one of the main reasons it felt like that is because the script relied too much on cliched pathos, which resulted in making some of the acting and characterization feel more ingenuine and superficial. Overall, the show is a good introduction to understanding the themes of dealing with death and grief.

I finally watched this drama after 2 years lol. I don't understand why there are so many people hating on the HJP. NDS is the supporter, HJP is the critic. You need both to succeed. The one whos the critic always get the hate for being a jerk, but having just a supporter makes you blind sighted and naive. I think hjp is my fav in the drama because you can tell by the way he behaves and expresses his emotions he's someone who been through a lot and then learned to build himself back up with confidence. NDS is someone who didn't learn to do that, and is stuck in his old self until he meets fl. NDS basically is the one who changed for a girl, nothing wrong with that, but I think the hate towards HJP undermines the work he has done for himself and others like samsan tech. Yes, hjp simped for fl just as much as nds, but in the end, hjp is the one who chooses to change for himself, not for others, which is quite respectable.

I think so too, sorry for my negativity. There are definitely areas that lacked, but I still really enjoyed the drama and it was well made. It was the first time I actually saw a female character fighting like a badass.

Ikr, I get that the writers had to make a tipping point for her to kill CMJ but it was really unnecessary. It kind of loses the messages they were trying to depict in the story.

Guys, don't be thrown off by the ratings and the hate. This deserves much higher than an 8.6. It's a great show if you love thrillers and they touch on a lot of social issues. I binged it in a night and a half.

Honestly, Noh Ae-Jung is immature in regards to Oh Dae-OH. The man deserves closure for the relationship they…
I do agree she should've given him closure, but after ep 10 I can see why AJ didnt want to tell him anything. She probably knew it would be exactly like how it went down where they both just get frustrated over things they weren't aware about. DO back then seemed to be completely oblivious about how he acted towards her so making the conversation with him will lead to back and forth blabbering about who is right or wrong. Tbh in a relationship the little things matter and the fact is she was hurt over the little things that happened built up over time. To have to explain all the small things that hurt her will just make her seem petty in DOs eyes thats why she felt like it wasnt worth the closure. It wouldve been a very pointless receipts battle where they both try to justify what the did instead of admitting to their own faults and move on from miscommunication.

Unpopular opinion but I actually find Ah Rin kind of charming cus she seems to be the one that seems to say what she wants and be honest about how she feels apart from DO. Her reasons for liking DO isn’t shallow either. She may be a brat but I honestly see that she will be much better at communication if DO and AR got together. I personally think she has the potential to become a kinder person through DO’s help. Also may I say that the character development of DO is so refreshing to see among all the other static immature cast.

I stopped watching Kdramas seriously after finishing My Mister back in 2018 cus I thought nothing could beat the complexity and comfort the relationships MM played out. Wow thank god this came on Netflix... I love every single character in HP SO MUCH. This drama is absolutely amazing, and I wish 2021 could come faster for the second season :’’’’).

If the FL ends up with gangster daddy Koo Pa Do, then I would rate this drama a 10 and the writer would be CEO of plot twists.

I loved how this drama focused on kindness of everyday people. No crazy step mothers, jealous ex gf, snobby rich people. Every character was so warm and pure... my heart :') i loved the relationship between Jong Su (the hospital director old man) and Jeong Woo's mother. It's so satisfying to see there are authortative figures that are so kind and warm-hearted.

Person Song Ji Hyo
I really think Ji Hyo can be a good actress. Her actig style is more suitable for something heavy and not so lighthearted like a rom com kdrama. And the problem is the scripts she gets offered are always so mediocore.... I wish someone offers her a really compelling film or drama and has a well rounded cast because part of the reason why she barely has any good projects are because the casting doesn't match. This just goes into a cycle where: bad script = bad charcterization = bad acting + bad casting = less profound directors/screenswriters offer her better roles => bad script again.
