LOL I definitely think that the republic era is really hard for show runners to do. They seem to spiral off into making shows as tragic as possible but with maximum drama and excitement, so more often than not, it feels like a hot piling mess.

Episode 19 was peak insanity. Wei Rao going full dementor mode on Han Liao was ultimate drama. I loved it so much, I re watched the scene three times cause I couldn’t get enough of it lol

"Divorce" was only an issue if the woman was considered a property (aka. slave) of the man. Wei Rao is on equal grounds, with her own wealth and her own title AND direct line of communication to the Emperor. She is free to leave if she wants.

I was really enjoying the AChou and Jundai biz but Jundai has drifted into the garden variety a33hole instead of an actual antagonist, who somehow, wields absolute power over everyone around her. I literally don't understand it. There's no scheming or mind games, Jundai just screams her face off at everyone within a five mile radius until someone drags her away to the next scene lmao

Tbph, I'm finding their relationship kind of uninteresting at this point. Things aren't moving in tandem with their relationship and this single minded focus on their so-called 'relationship' is kind of a milquetoast experience rn.

I mean, i understand that this makes sense considering it's about CX being in an obsessive one-sided infatuation, but like, there's so much happening on the peripheries which, as an audience, I feel like we're missing out on, as far as narrative flavor goes.
For example, are people going to help XT? Are they going to dispose of him? Does XT have other plans and how does PJ play into it?
Does Gu know about PJ in that mansion? Why does he not reach out to her? How does he handle CX's abusive behavior towards PJ? Does he or does he not care?
Does PJ not have any friends?! Does anyone notice she's missing?! Wtf?!

It's just... not fun anymore and honestly, it's not even stressful. It's kinda sliding into boring territory.

Definitely. I also think that it would be SO frustrating to see the character not come together and I think the biggest danger to that result is Ye Ping Jun. By that, I mean that she is unable to develop as a character by either spiralling out of her virtue-track mind, accept a deeply flawed human being, learning to adapt to nuance OR learning to establish boundaries.

If she doesn't have an arc, all his love and hardwork for her will feel unearned, imho. Like, what is he trying so hard for? What does he get out of that relationship other than a cardboard cutout of a woman who prompted his hero-journey but then basically just... became a nothing-burger. Was he even seeing a woman or just like a mirror self in which he saw whatever he wanted to see?

I fear these are the unsatisfied, unresolved sentiments that I'll be left with and I really hate that feeling. Worse than a SE.
