CP is just... my feelings about it are very strong and not nice. "gives me the hives" is similar to "gives me the creeps" or "makes my skin crawl". Basically it means it makes me really uncomfortable consistently, both on-screen and off-screen. I wrote so much about it on CP discussion thread, I feel totally empty right now. But I'm sure it's gonna come back the next episode. It's just a lot of wasted potential, abused popularity, veiled toxicity and no plot (I'm actually getting fairly certain there was no script for it written. that's how messy it is).

Yes, star in my mind is ongoing. It's gonna have 8 episodes (3 are out I think). It reminds me a lot of the original 2moons, but I think it's gonna end up even better. 😄

I think they should have just recasted the second male lead in Color Rush, which they will probably do if there's a third season. So even if the character comes back, I highly doubt it will be played by the same actor,

It's possible. I'm still enjoying some of them (like "Star in My Mind"), but there's just been so much of them in a row that totally disappointed me.

Korean dramas, for me, are usually too short for the kind of story they're trying to make. But it's still working for me somehow.

I've heard a bit about Killer and Healer, so I knew not to expect Wuxia/Xianxia. But it's fairly low on my plan-to-watch list (Guardian is even lower, for similar reasons).

I rarely watch non-BL eastern dramas. But I do watch a heck lot of BLs, at least lately (I switch between my obsessions XD). They are absolutely inferior (on average) in all of those things imo.

Yeah, I'm complete opposite of it. I come from the part of europe that's officially categorized as "central", but it has heavy eastern europe influence. I also come from a rather conservative (Christian) family, so it's rare to see more diverse personalities here. But since I started studying in a more "western" city, it's getting a bit better.

I agree the BL industry and old tropes are problematic, especially when normalized or sugar-coated. Whether it affects me personally or not depends on a drama. For example, I was totally fine with something like LBC1. But CP is just giving me hives (I wasn't part of the online discussion during LBC era, so that might play a role, too).

Honestly, I'm not well-versed in LGBTQ+ community, either. I consider myself a part of it, so I mostly speak from personal experience and impressions, but I'm in no way a role model for that stuff. I'm sure you could search for more information or (sort of) influencers in that regard. But to be perfectly honest, I don't think it's as clear-cut and united as some would have made you believe. I personally have some opinions/moral standards others would consider homophobic (part of it comes from my upbringing, so I'm working on that ones). My best advice would just to be nice and not judgemental without the whole picture. If you're interested in something specific, look it up from different sources and make your own opinion on it 💜

If KP becomes a financial hit (which it most likely will), I'm sure it will spawn at least a dozen mafia/criminal BLs. Especially since there are plenty of source materials for that kind of MLM relationships.

I don't think they get money from promoting pink milk (since it's not trademarked, and they usually get it from generic food stands, not a specific label). I mentioned it because it's similar to the ads and one I'm actually interested in (getting thai products is near impossible where I'm from either way). If you haven't watched "Star in my mind" yet, try that one! They replaced pink milk with green guava juice and it was a total cultural shock for me!!!

Yeah, I get it now. I believe most of it is a cultural thing and a fanservice for the Y-girls. I don't want to get too deep into that (because it's kinda yikes), but I would have prefered it toned down, too 🙂

I cried all the way through the opening scene of UWMA 😭😭😭 And it took me like thrice as long to finish it, since I had to pause it all the time and question whether it's worth the emotional turmoil. Best opening in BLs I've seen so far, hands down 🖤

BLs certainly have they own problems and tropes. I got used to it fairly quickly, so it rarely bothers me now. But I don't expect a "hollywood" level of quality from them, either. I'm mostly watching it for emotional support/distress.

There are bound to be some cultural differences that can be off-putting. My main is the wife/husband stuff and their overall views on family and hierarchy in society.

The multiple couples in a friend group is mostly done to connect multiple love stories which provide contrast to each other imo. I would have agreed with some that queer people often tend to stick together (even when they aren't aware of it), but most BLs don't present their protagonists as queer (which is one of my biggest issues with the dramas). Similarly with families, it isn't uncommon to have multiple queer people among siblings.

The ads I just take as a necessary evil for the BLs to be made at all, let alone distributed globally (often for free). I very much prefer it over the fanservice stuff. Some shows do a better job to hide it, some are so bad it's hilarious. But mostly, I just ignore it (except my obsession with a pink milk. It's a holy grail I will never stop chasing 🥛).

I'm fine with a simple and or rehashed plot, if it makes sense. Having no plot at all or one so complicated even the writers get lost in it is way worse. And some plots are just bad, boring, inconsistent mess (I won't name names, but I'm sure some people will relate). I do agree that Korean and Japanese BLs tend to have better plots on average, though (I don't watch Taiwanese / Vietnamese BLs, and filipino ones are few and in-between). Also, most (Thai) BLs are based on fanfics / wattpad stories, so there's that.

The cliche/cringe/weird humor is mostly cultural thing, I believe. You might have heard of thai soap operas (Lakorns), where it's pretty standard.

I'm glad most BLs aren't realistic. If they were, they would be hella depressing to watch.
