Ml is the half brother of the current emperor in the story, the youngest son of the founding emperor. Fl also had siblings while in the drama she's an only child.

For those who are wondering about the novel, it's very different, The Fl is the prime minister's daughter and the Ml is a prince.

The emperor was always a coward, his children also died in the process, did you see him care. Nope. All he ever did is ruin various women's lives.

The chancellor did lead CP's soldiers and personally killed Prince Duan, but he did so under the command of CP. In the end he was also just a pawn like the rest.

The censorship did crack the whip on palace dramas maybe that's why they cut out everything

It was all tied to that prophecy, that's way prince Duan returned his command token, it was a known secret that CP planned to take the throne. It's the reason everyone killed themselves without uncovering the truth. A chancellor doesn't hold that much power, but a crown prince does. Why did Wu Siping run for his life, he had more power than Cui. But the drama never pointed it out.

Nope, the CP orchestrated the execution of prince Duan and conspiring with enemies, he's the reason they lost the war, Duan wanted to retire and get away from the battle for the throne but CP organized the execution. The emperor knows everything but he's powerless because CP has his own elite soldiers and a lot of hidden networks. CP is literally behind EVERYTHING. Novel is much better at explaining.

what bugs me is that we didn't get even an inkling that the person the emperor is deadly afraid of is the crown prince (we only got the barest hint he's involved when ML's dad wanted to stop them from investigating) The holes bug the crap out of me

I think this survived only because the beginning is strong and because of its leads. Yes it's an entertaining watch but you can tell A LOT of stuff was cut. Well hopefully we get s2 and it isn't as choppy.
