I actually really liked that aspect of the story. I sooo wanted to see more of what happened while she was held captive. I felt the flashbacks added depth to the story.
I'm still not over this drama. Made me a fan out of Tsao Yu Ning. If looks could set people on fire, his would be it. I know it's been done a million times but his cold exterior while burning like charcoal inside for the heroine had me captivated. His chemistry with the heroine was palpable, who, by the way, was also easy to like; a perfect balance of delicate and strong. This was truly an unexpected gem of a drama.
I am so glad you wrote this article, otherwise I don't think I would have picked this drama up. I binged it in two days and it made me a fan out of Tsao Yu Ning. He reminded me occasionally of Lee Min-ki or Kang Ha-neul or Yeo Jin -goo, but mostly I just thought he was HOT. I loved his chemistry with the lead actress, who was also effortlessly charming. This was such a fun, zippy ride, with the serious scenes intense and the fun, light scenes such mood lifters. And I wish we got to see more of the past, which was always super interesting. I was pleasantly surprised by this drama. Despite the premise, the leads' meet cute is one of the cutest I've ever seen. I couldn't stop giggling. He's so bemused and she's so bright and from their very first interaction, I was rooting for them already, even though it was obvious this is going to be a story about star-crossed lovers. Also, the criminal world that this is set in is convincing. The villains are tough, smart and ruthless. They are also layered that you don't feel as if they are evil for the sake of being evil. From the leads to the supporting characters, there is strong acting all around. Although I agree with others that the first half is better than the second and I struggled to finish somewhat, it's a well made drama overall that definitely deserves a higher rating.
I wanted to add my two cents here because I see a lot of positive comments for which I share the same sentiment. It took me about two months before I could move on to the next drama after watching Hua Jai Sila and I'm one of those that watch 2, 3 dramas at a time. I've said this before; I consider it to be one of the best dramas I've ever seen. Also, it reminded me of k-melodrama oldies like What Happened in Bali and Que Sera Sera (fitting, as I think this was a remake of a drama from the same time period). So intense, messy, not afraid to push boundaries, and utterly romantic; it was a great watch.
I am surprised no one has mentioned Hua Jai Sila yet. As a disclaimer, I'll admit that I am by no means an expert on Thai dramas, as I've only seen two. But I am a veteran Asian drama watcher and I absolutely fell in love with Hua Jai Sila. I consider it to be one of the best revenge romance melodramas I've ever seen. Also, it reminded me of k-melodrama oldies like What Happened in Bali and Que Sera Sera (fitting, as I think this was a remake of a drama from the same time period). So intense, messy, not afraid to push boundaries, and utterly romantic; it was a great watch.
