I still question if the kids really did survive. I keep getting the surreal feeling as if the ending is what they…
Oh no, you're right. That's the interpretation I read, and according to the novel as well. It was heavily implied that Pupu and Yan Liang died in the end, with all the imaginary scenes - Yan Liang in the hall full of students but only Chaoyang was aware of his presence, Yan Liang blowing the whistle at the group of dancing elderly but only Lao Chen noticed him. Also, we never saw Pupu again despite being told by ZDS she survived and is in the hospital.
When I was watching the ending, those happy scenes did feel a little off but I still took it that they were alive and everything ended well - I would prefer to think so. I like that the show is opening the audience to different interpretations - we could totally go on believing that what we saw was the truth, but if we cared to examine closer, we'll realise everything might be a lie - especially when you know this might be Chaoyang's fictional recount of what happened and he might be concealing his evil nature/doings. It's really cool!
Just finished this but I can't list it as completed since the full episodes were released in advance. :( It's really solid, would love to hear from anyone else who had finished it too about your interpretation of the story, especially the ending.
I loved Anne and Higashide so much as a couple because of Gochisousan - the tsutenkaku pair ;_; but now... sorely disappointed in Higashide. I really wish things would work out for Anne, she doesn't deserve this mess especially given all that she had already been through.
I was a much bigger fan of Vin but most of his works seem to be still stuck with Jaywalk's own productions. Either that or it's with lacklustre productions like I Will Never Let You Go. He needs more refreshing roles in better quality productions, and have a breakthrough as an actor beyond Jaywalk's grip.
After Vengo started getting better roles outside of Jaywalk productions and being recognised for Wrath of Time, he's the Jaywalk actor I'm the most fond of now. I've liked him as Dijun and Zhe Gu Shao - I recognise he's not the best actor ever, but I think he had improved from Les Interpretes days - so I look forward to him improving even more as he gets better resources!
Dilraba is... overrated tbh. Often times I forget that she first got popular for her good acting as Gao Wen. And after Feng Jiu, her roles and quality of acting have been a let down. If anything, she was a really good Feng Jiu, and I look forward to her again in Pillow Book with Vengo.
Among the newbies, I am quite fond of Li Ting Ting because of Somewhere Only We Know.
