It's because a little game of defiance which mostly consists of Vegas pushing and Pete fighting back, it revolves around forced submission where the fun is in the fact that Pete doesn't cower before him, the thought that he gets to prod at one of the most important bodyguards of the main family, the people that put Vegas in a position where he feels an immense lack of control is pretty satisfying.
On top of this, all his feelings of self loathing and lack of agency gives him a sense of power far superior than just plain and simple submission. Vegas was following his father because he knew the outcome, he can't enter the enemy’s lair not expecting to suffer some losses and he realized that when kan gave him the gun, it was a simple strategy to create an opening while luring the enemy out. Kan didn't lead, his weapon aka vegas did and he was prepared to be sacrificed for the greater evil, to put his father on the throne and this would have worked if korn was dead but then Vegas would have died because at the end Kan would want all bodyguards down including Pete and Vegas wouldn't let that happen which would result his death in order to protect Pete.
Vegas loves Pete more than he craves his father's attention, he made sure Pete knew that when he obediently got punched, he made it clear that he would die loving pete and this proves that his love for pete saved him because this love changed him, this love gave him reasons to live beyond his father’s wills
Vegas's life never mattered, if he died or lived it wasn't important to anyone until Pete came along and his life suddenly became the most precious thing to someone, to Pete vegas's existence is the only treasure he would chose.
