Omg I watched all of those Taiwanese dramas growing up. :( Still love the original F4 (legit band)♥ Another classic would be Fated To Love You from Taiwan, Prince Turn Into Frog, It Started With A Kiss. Romantic Princess, The Outsiders, My MVP Valentine, Lavender! All classics of Taiwanese drama. ♥ Ah, so many childhood dramas I love and none can recreate.
Its upsetting that barely anyone is helping sub Hanbun, Aoi. :( I wish I knew Japanese in order to help sub it as well. Manpuku is already subbed up to 115 and is the drama after this one! :(
1. It makes sense if its about a character's life. For example, Story of Minglan is mostly about her and we watch her grow from a child to marriage life. Its similar to biography. Some dramas are long because its to show the development of the story or characters, of course they drag it on with drama. Other than that, its hard to understand why there's so many episodes. haha A lot of youth and web dramas has less episodes though.
2. Historical dramas typically based royal harem, political aspect, and the dramas within it. Wuxia is mostly about at least one martial hero and their journey to become the best cultivator. Of course, it has more martial arts than your typical historical drama. I love wuxia more than historical dramas. Xianxia is a subgenre of it, it's more of a fantasy genre with things that is not realistic - more about deity and demons.
3. Chinese use to have polygamy families. Also they do have proper introductions but I believe its not translated well into english. There's many different ways to call each and every family member and even a distant member as well. Cousin can be Biao ge [ older male cousin], biao di [ younger male cousin] vice versa with female. Then there's Er Jie, san jie, si jie for Second older sister, third, and fourth older sister. There's a difference in calling your maternal and paternal grandparents. It can get complex tbh. So if it was translated correctly, you would know who the character is. Otherwise, yes it can be confusing on who is who.
5. The king named him Crown Prince to confirm his role in being next in line to the throne. Otherwise, "Shi zi" is just someone born from the royal bloodline. His father was the brother of the emperor so naturally ChenYu is not the prince unless the emperor states it himself. The king can take away his title as well. He's basically seen as a god if you think about it.
7. Pretty sure its cause travelling around China can get expensive. Evernight is an example of what you're looking for. The production team actually filmed at different parts of China from what I read anyways.. haha. Of course, it has CGI cause its a wuxia drama. Wuxia dramas has a ton of CGI because martial arts in this genre is all about your Qi - typically you wouldn't see it. So they just add it visually; I personally love them.
8. Legend of Dugu was similar to your description. I don't remember much of the main couple.
9. I understand some but yeah Chinese idioms is somewhat confusing.
10. Yeah typically coughing up blood means you're dying. But poking your skin to draw blood out means it drew out the toxins in your body. Same goes for coughing up blood to be cured. In wuxia, its to stabilize your Qi, draw out the poison and toxins. This is more of a Chinese medicine thing. It's similar to sweating out toxins in modern times or urinating (the color tells use how much toxins was in your system.).
1. He found it yes, and he said he looked everywhere for it. He didn't said he made it lol2. It was an accident.…
Hua Biao found the bike but it was not exactly Yangxi's. Liyu and Yang Xi knew it wasn't hers but they smiled and thanked Hua Biao for it. I don't think he said he made it. He said he found it, he was trying to hide the fact that he went through a lot to find the bike.
As for the grandma thing, can you give me the episode? I have to re-watch it. The subs on kissasian is from the KURAN youtube channel and its inaccurate. Lol I assume this is when the grandma started to have memory loss(?)
I wanted to watch this until I read your comment. I'd consider this already a pretty big spoiler.
Don't be discouraged, the drama is worth watching!. hahaha In the end, its all about what the characters want to do. Its technically a happy ending but not in the way you would expect.
I initially did not enjoy the first episode because of it's over-acting characters. Then I gave it a second try after a week or two and actually really like it. Something to enjoy if you're looking for a carefree, youth drama. :3
First episode was intense, I already ship the main couple so hard haha Lin Zhi Cheng's eyes and subtle smiles when he met Lin Qian again is so obvious! He likes herrrr! Its understandable how Linqian doens't know him cause he had face paint and his name wasn't exposed. But his buddies was like"OH!" after that rescue in episode 2! I guss its good they didn't remind her. And omg when Zhicheng saved Linqian again.. he was so nonchalant about it cause he just whooped those guys like a piece of cake while staring at Linqian. ahha It was cool! Can I just say Jinhan (zhicheng) is so freaken handsome and charismatic!? I didn't really like him in Princess Weiyoung cause his character was evil but I always found him quite attractive. haha For some reason, I don't remember him in Princess Agents >.< Anyway, this drama made me love him even more!!! I seen multiple dramas of Zhao Liying, mostly wuxia/historical so this is my first modern drama of hers! I'm quite excited to see the love blossom between our two leads!! :3
The trailer for episode 21 though. He's purposely making Fuyao jealous LOL By accidentally forgetting her, putting as low rak. I see evil smiles in the other concubines. This will be a bloody fight as per usual palace dramas. Hopefully Fuyao will still use her martial skills in the palace. ]
I watched all of this except the first two. haha I loved Chinese Paladin series, Weiyoung and Hua Qian Gu a lot! They're definitely a must watch! I saw a bit of the Cruel Romance on TV but never got into it. It did look good but I was never a fan of the 1930s genre. Definitely will give it a try because og Chen QIao En! :)

Yes yes~ I've become a huge fan of his after this drama and I was just a casual fan before! Hopefully his career takes off after this!
Aw, why is that? >.<
