Regarding zxc's acting, I find it hard to comprehend his expression when he stabbed zhx. I know zhx did a lot…
I'll just repost what I did below - I don't think it detracts from the tragedy of the final confrontation but it impacts the audience's understanding of Haiyan's state of mind that they cut this:

There is a major cut scene where Haiyan deals with Haixia's betrayal, Haiqi's death, and what he needs to do next internally and basically gets driven into breaking down out of shock, horror and grief before the confrontation. During this scene, his face 'froze' in a frightening look. Haiyan then stabs himself in the neck with acupuncture needles so he could put his face in a 'normal' expressionless look instead and continue his self-imposed mission without scaring people around him.

I don't know if it's sloppy editing or because they intentionally wanted to downplay HY's pain/grief (to make it more platonic than romantic or whatever) but removing this scene really does make the audience have much less empathy for HY and insight into how much it hurt him to make up his mind to kill HX.

I don't think thats an acting problem but a directing problem tbh with all that fear that they might get shipped…
I'll just repost what I did below - I don't think it detracts any from the tragedy of the final confrontation but for sure, it impacts the audience's understanding of Haiyan's state of mind:

(It seems from the bts shots that Xincheng really did stab himself in the neck with an acupuncture needle only for this pivotal scene only for it to completely end up on the editing room floor. I can understand if the the needle in his neck was too much for the censors or something, but if editors wanted the audience to have a greater degree of empathy for Haiyan in the finale, they should have included a second or two of that complete breakdown and face freezing to explain the depth of emotional turmoil he was experiencing under the surface. It's a shame they chose to go with a more 'sanitised' approach and downplay the depth of the brothers' relationship and Haiyan's pain/grief at choosing to do what he did.)

On the contrary, I saw many posts on XHS praising Zhang Xincheng's acting and for bringing Haiyan as described…
1) There is a cut scene where Haiyan deals with Haixia's betrayal, Haiqi's death, and what he needs to do next internally and basically gets driven into breaking down out of shock, horror and grief before the confrontation. During this scene, his face 'froze' in a frightening look. Haiyan then stabs himself in the neck with acupuncture needles so he could put his face in a 'normal' expressionless look instead and continue his self-imposed mission without scaring people around him.

2) The script that was leaked shows that Haiyan actually said a slightly longer line to Haixia in farewell instead of just 'thank you'. It's not clear why this bit was deleted in post-production (maybe it too 'romantic' for a platonic pair, who knows) but it's not the actor's fault that bit wound up chopped.

And even if that bit hadn't been chopped, the ending was definitely tragic as heck. Haiyan's tears, his broken thank you, and the flashback scenes they cut in conveyed the heartbreak of the moment - even in his last moments, dying and fighting possession, Haixia still managed the strength to somehow protect Haiyan to the best of his ability.

This is my first time watching Zhang Xincheng. I always had the impression that he's a good actor, but I'm quite…
On the contrary, I saw many posts on XHS praising Zhang Xincheng's acting and for bringing Haiyan as described in the books to life despite the fact that a lot of scenes were cut from his portrayal of the character.

In particular there are some really pivotal bits that were cut and weren't patched well by the editing team which led to the audience having a fragmented understanding of the character's state when he went to confront Haixia - I'll put them under a spoiler tag since not everybody may wish to read about what the script actually asked the actors to do vs what the editing team put on screen. I understand that this could have been censored out, just like Haiyan's earlier scenes where he tried to self-harm (before Haiqi stopped him by throwing a rock), maybe because the censors didn't wish to show the main character committing self-harm ... but the Nanyang Mystery team definitely did not handle the deletions required by the censors well on their end in my opinion. Even if they intentionally wanted to downplay Haiyan's emotions, it doesn't seem like a smart move when he's the MC and that was meant to be part of the build up to the finale.

Did Xu Lei write this adaptation after binge watching Naruto or something. Because it seems like he took Obito's storyline and made it even more ridiculous. It's a shame because this drama has good actors (Xincheng is so so much fun ti watch as Haiyan in the earlier eps), incredible action scenes, good cinematography, heck even the costumes are pretty ... but it's dragged down by the subpar writing.

The whole organisation went down because he boasted around to a group of nobodies. Was this supposed secret organization…
I think Haiqi already took preliminary action to close the Archives based on the intel from Haixia and others. And what I've seen, Haiqi is actually not as harsh in the book and assures Haiyan that telling people his name wasn't the reason for the Archives' downfall - if I recall, he also doesn't know the true nature of the Archives at a similar point in the book (which seems plausible if Haiqi didn't trust most of her disciples fully)

The drama diverges from the book (and takes away the major plot point that's meant to cause Haiyan to change) so it seems the writer purposely made Haiyan more reckless and made Haiqi harsher on Haiyan in the drama to give him an alternative reason to change.

Yes, it's a surprise (like everything else with this drama lol) that Xincheng sang for the ending song and he's…
Oh I meant he also sings another OST for Nanyang Mystery according to the end credits but we haven't heard it yet!

And yeah, he sings for a lot of his own works and he's done one or two for other shows I think.

Is that ZXC singing the ending ost himself?
Yes, it's a surprise (like everything else with this drama lol) that Xincheng sang for the ending song and he's credited for another OST too.

I was watching PoJ when news of this and the literal episodes dropped but I am not (really) complaining 🥲🥲 we waited a year already, I'm glad we didn't have to wait any longer!! I just hope it turns out as good as it seems from the trailers and clips.

I believe DYX use his own voice but ZXC's voice sound like not his voiceIts only my tasted that watching drama…
Ahah but Xincheng voiced Haiyan. He's pretty well known for being one of the few younger actors who always voices his own characters. It's just that he likes to adapt his voice to each character so Haiyan may not sound similar to PS or other roles 😅

Is Zhang Xie Cheng being dubbed by any chance? I somewhat remembered his voice differently from Justice in the…
It's Xincheng voicing Haiyan. It's just that he likes to play around with his voice and frequently changes the way he speaks depending on the character. The tone he uses for Haiyan is kinda coarse but it's way closer to his normal voice than PS - PS sounds so different people really thought he must be dubbed 😅

I’m really looking forward to Xincheng’s currently filming drama, Qin Mi! He has been filming since October but it seems they kept a tight lid on things as we only saw paparazzi shots leaked recently - it’s a treat to see him on a horse wielding a sword since he hasn’t done any historical dramas apart from Young Blood

He must have know how to play piano in real life. Have seen him in 2 drama so far, he looks real playing piano
Aww yeah he can play the piano and he composes some of his own music too. I always like to see it when they take advantage of his skills as a musician/singer.

When did this start filming?
I guess it might be sometime in mid October since Zhang Xincheng flew to Guizhou for Qin Mi not long after his musical ended in the early October. The drama is rumoured to have a 100+ day filming cycle so maybe they will crank up before the lunar new year in Feb.

The drama has already started filming and paparazzi shots have been released showing Chen Xiao, Zhang Xincheng,…
Pretty odd to gatekeep things this way when filming has already started for quite some time ,,, but I guess we will have to wait for the official announcement before updating the cast and crew lists.

The drama has already started filming and paparazzi shots have been released showing Chen Xiao, Zhang Xincheng, Dai Luwa, Xu Hao, and Wang Jinsong on set so I have applied for an edit to the cast details. (I also saw some paparazzi shots of Liu Xuancheng in this but I don’t have a source for MDL yet as he isn’t on the douban cast list.)

Oh my gosh episode 13.
pei su was so broken this episode and luo finally realized how tortured he is (literally). and just gah, their chemistry is everything but beyond that I also love how this drama is about showing more than telling us what to think - where a lot of cdramas would have used narration or added unnecessary dialogue, JITD uses its unspoken moments so so effectively - both the directors and actors deserve a kudos for this.
