After watching ep 10 i can say that nanya's past story is very disturbing

Ahhh thanks. I realize they fleshed this out a bit in a later ep. But the way that scene in Ep 8 was done was just so strange / awkward that it made me wonder if there’s something else going on with his fiancee!
I don’t get the strangeness between Fanglu and his fiancee in Ep 8. Does anyone have a clue why Fanglu seems almost wary of her and she seems so depressed? Did I miss something or is this yet another mysterious subplot … could she be connected to one of the cases …

I’m hooked but I still have some complaints over the uneven pacing and lack of timestamps to denote a shift from past to present at times - I hope it evens out in later episodes as it’s kinda jarring to go from following the investigation to suddenly being wrapped up in an episode long flashback in ep 5 with a random scene at the end between Luo and Fanglu to remind us that heyyy, remember this is a suspense. Their cat and mouse game was interesting the first couple of times but it feels repetitive since this was just them sitting around and we’ve seen Fanglu needle Luo a few times already (with that same deadpan expression) .

There is a lot of food for thought in episodes 5-6 though - is Nanya a victim of circumstances or did her choices bring her here? Did she stay in Qingshui for some unexplored reason or did she simply not have the means to escape it yet? At one point Luo tells her something like, it’s not too late for her and she seems to shrug it off in cynicism - is that really how she really feels? From everything we’ve been shown of her, she doesn’t seem like someone who’s resigned herself to her ‘fate’. And it also makes you draw a parallel to Zhou Luo’s own situation - is he hit so hard by her situation because he is also someone who tried to leave and was forced back? It feels like I just leave every episode with even more questions 😅.

Not really. But I think based on the first two eps, the drama has already diverged quite from the book. Book!Luo is a kid with an impeccable background - he is not a knowing accomplice to NY.
Two eps in and I’m already vested in this drama and can’t help feeling for our leads although both of them seem rather grey. I am already rooting for the FL. And the beginnings of a cat and mouse game between Fang Lu and the ML are intriguing.
Shout out to the cinematographer because there are so many gorgeous shots in this drama. That said, I am not quite sold on the director’s choice of storytelling technique - the transitions from past to present are handled pretty neatly but I found myself a little tired of the constant back and forth by the end. Maybe I will try watching just one ep at a time.
Perhaps because GWTW is the name of a famous western book/film. But ahah the new title sounds a little strange.

If it helps, from what I recall of the novel, Cui Bing Bing only turns up more than midway through the novel and the main story is about Liu Jun’s struggles to transform his father’s factory business - his marriage and work-life balance woes add colour to the story but they could probably be mostly reduced for a shorter and tighter narrative.
