maybe we didnt start at the same time but we basically watched same amount of dramas, and I can tell you that within cdrama world this is like one of the top tier dramas especially for the recent years.
And, I always think novels are better than drama and thats because majority of the time, novels can be as unrealistic as they want but dramas have censorship and some things are just impossible. Plus with the episode counts its like way worse cause they have limited amount so realistically this is geniunely one of the best dramas in 2025 alongside LA.

you skipped alot and thats probably why you didnt find it interesting. The drama wasn't character driven but rather plot driven so if you skip the plot then idk how you expect to enjoy it 😭Plus, its a war drama not some NSFW drama so idk what u were expecting from them but they overall had so many cute romance and the kissing scenes were calm , something thats appropriate for a war drama thats called legend of the female general

I don’t know how the novel was so without comparing, I feel like the drama was actually really good. There’s no way they could show a pretty female lead and still keep her manly while also ensueing the casting was good and shes known, so you kinda have to think realistically on that part and allow it. The FL's behaviour was sometimes so handsome that you can see why people didn’t think she was a girl and rather liked the way she is, one of the examples being STT. I feel like people also didnt assume this because she grew up acting like a guy, and has experience with it unless its about a girl flirting or something, she can maintain being calm in situations where girls would be awkward e.g. sleeping with guys in the army. Plus, He Rufei killed all the people who truly met He Yan and emperor or people in the palace didnt really meet him as u can see from the first episode so all her trusted people being dead makes it more easier for him to fool everyone. And those like the ones in the academy didnt see he yan for awhile so its easier to fool and act like after going to the army he became this buff and manly person.
General He (fl) was so successful and loved because of her empathy and kindness which were stuff that was extremely rare in men back then but for her its reasonable she had these traits because she was actually a woman pretending to be a man so its in her nature. Also, I feel like the drama made her repeatedly say “dudu” and depend on him for things to show that even though she used to be this big legend, now she had to rely on someone else and because she doesn't have big ego, she could accept that and just live as a regular soldier and even be a beg friends with him which is respectable, moreover, she had her own ambition and plan that needs her to be known and this would require her to be XJ's right hand/useful person that he takes her and allows her to shine. What honestly what made her special is that unlike He Rufei, who was full of himself and had such a big ego while being completely useless and delusional; she was very hard working, humble, soft and supportive.
The chemistry was so good too, idky ud say that because you clearly could see how he fell in love with her hard work and dedication to her goal which made her shine so much, you could also see how she slowly started falling for him and its because hes so supportive and has such good personality and not just because he helped her, but because of who he was. The drama honestly felt too short imo, especially the last two episodes. The plot could’ve gone way further, and Chu Zhao could’ve had a much darker, more clever plan. I just think the only weak part was that Chu Zhao had the potential to be an amazing villain, but they ended up making him kinda dumb near the end.
The ML and FL would be better off as master and student than anything else. They do have good chemistry, dont get me wrong on that but I geniunely think the FL put too much effort and love meanwhile the ML had questionable moments.
One thing I hated is when basically he tested her and was wondering if she was using him like everyone in his life was really nice to him even at times Elise was really nice as well but he like was so toxic with everyone and they don't even go indepth why he is like that like was it cause of how his parents died? why did his mentor hate sugar? and why did his life become so gloomy? is it because of everyone dying? I feel like we need more answers.
I also hated the doctor more than Elise because Elise has a reason for all this and I think at the end with how much she regretted and how she wanted to fix everything including like buying the exclusive medicine as well as handing herself to the police, all of this makes her abit better and the plot allowed her to be redeemed. Meanwhile, the doctor was so damn unprofessional and they could've done so much better like where the heck is law?
I also think although Elise is a bad character, the ML and her match like their freak matches eachother and I think at times Elise even deserved better.
Regardless, I LOVED the drama plot because I missed watching old dramas with so much complications so seeing this drama made me feel nostalgic!! For rating, it's like 8/10!!
shout out to TJC because he made me hate his character sm at first to the point I wanted him to be sad forever and then he made me pity this guy and made him so likable through his love for his wife to the point u just have to give props and want good for him
