Unapologetic gore horror with a weak script.
“Omukade” is a film that plunges viewers into a relentless and intense thrill ride, filled with graphic violence and in a claustrophobic setting. The plot takes place inside a mine cave, where the dark and cramped space skillfully creates the atmosphere of dread and exhaustion. This backdrop is the ideal setting for the film's main source of terror: a giant, man-eating centipede based on Japanese folklore. The creature itself is regarded as unsettling, designed to provoke maximum discomfort and fear in the audience, especially if you have entomophobia (fear of insects) or chilopodophobia (fear of centipede).While the movie excels in creating a tense and disturbing ambiance, it falls short in other critical areas, particularly in storytelling and character development. The script offers minimal depth or growth for its characters, making them feel pretty flat and one-dimensional. While the ensemble cast brings their best performance to the table, the characters' relationships and backstories are heavily sidelined to make room for the next monster attack. The lack of character complexity makes it challenging for me to form a connections or invest emotionally in their fates. Plus, the theme related to war gets lost in the shuffle, overshadowed by the focus on gore and suspense and diminishing the film's overall coherence. Another issue with this film is its cinematography. While the CGI is considered solid and ambitious for a Thai monster film, the erratic, shaky camera movements during action sequences left me feeling dizzy.
Overall, "Omukade" stands out as a chilling, nightmarish horror film that masterfully uses its eerie mine setting and the unsettling creature to create fear. In my opinion, it's a fresh twist on the typical Thai horror style. It suits the taste of fans of extreme creature features and unapologetic gore. But if you are looking for a character-driven story with a deep plot, Omukade isn't the ideal pick.

Cliched, but entertaining and positive.
When it comes to a series that centers on a terminal illness, oftentimes it will revolve around the idea of “living life to the fullest before you die” and tend to be melodramatic. But this series takes a lighthearted approach to the illness and touches on taboo issues, like death and funerals, and injects a comedic tone while still maintaining that core idea. As typical and cliched as this series can be, it stands out for its positive and relatable representation of life's challenges, making it a show that's worth your time.At first, I was a bit reluctant to dive into this series because the cancer theme hits pretty close to home. I was worried I’d end up bawling. But to my surprise, instead of focusing solely on the illness and its impact on the protagonist and the romance revolving around it, the series delves more into the family dynamic and how interpersonal relationships could impact one’s POV of life. And it shows how the "tough love" parenting shape a person's resilience. Plus, the portrayal of relationships among siblings, spouses, and best friends feels genuine, enriching the emotional texture of the story.
The series strikes a good balance between drama, personal conflict, family struggles, romance, and comedy, all woven together in a good pace and story arc and delivered by a great performance by all cast. As usual, Esther Supreeleela delivers well, showcasing her versatile acting range by seamlessly shifting the mood of her character and driving the emotional highs and lows of the story. Also, the supporting characters and their story arcs play pivotal roles in enriching the plot and making it more entertaining. I personally love the friendship and frenemies’ dynamic between Nim, Nat, Vinny and Opal. They’re annoying and hilarious, yet somehow endearing at the same time.
While the series has its strengths, the romance plot is arguably the least interesting aspect for me. Esther is an actress who can pull off chemistry with any co-star, but sadly, her chemistry with Singto feels pretty weak, making some scenes feel unconvincing and pretty dull. And not to mention that the male lead is portrayed as almost too perfect, lacking the complexities that make him intriguing and realistic. He’s likeable of course, but when he’s a good, polite, kind, optimistic, hardworking, tactful, understanding, helpful, patient, loving, and caring guy, he turns out to be one-dimensional and super boring. Even with some flaws in his backstory, his character development feels flat and fails to create the necessary tension for a gripping romantic arc. I mostly skipped the romance part.
Overall, "My Undying Miracle" offers something refreshing while still having the clichés of illness-themed dramas. Despite some minor flaws, the series remains entertaining and emotionally resonant. It's a promising reminder to cherish every moment, embrace laughter even in tough times, and carry the spirit of connection wherever life leads us. So far the series is entertaining, but could’ve been better. I would've liked it better and rated it higher if the ML had more colors to his character.

Good concept, weak script
Masks have long been associated with mystery and fear across different cultures worldwide. The idea of hiding one's true identity behind a mask taps into fundamental psychological fears, making them the perfect tool for horror movies to evoke a sense of unease and terror in the audience. In this film, the concept of Phi Ta Khon, a traditional masked festival in Thailand, is used as a backdrop for the supernatural horror elements of the film. The spooky masks donned by the dancers bring an air of mystery and dread to the narrative, setting up a potentially frightening experience. However, despite the promising concept and the potential for a frightening tale, the film falls short in its script and execution.The story manages to build suspense and delivers a few jumpscares, but the plot, though promising, fails to fully capitalize on the great concept at its core. It feels flat and lacks the necessary depth to truly engage viewers in the film's world. I think the biggest drawbacks are the lack of solid character development, plot holes, and some weird plot points. Despite the plot twist, the movie struggles to maintain its tension as the story unfolds. As a horror film enthusiast, I found the twist to be rather predictable and unsurprising. The changes in tone and focus during the second half throw off the film's atmosphere, making it lose the momentum it built with the creepy Phi Ta Khon in the first half. I sighed and yawned quite a few times.
Mos Panuwat delivers a good performance, showcasing a different side of his acting abilities from his previous BL roles. However, his portrayal lacks the intense emotions needed to really draw you in. In contrast, Diana Flipo delivers an average performance, which doesn't really highlight her best work to this point.
Overall, "Ta Khon: The Cursed Mask" is a decent horror film that falls short of utilizing its great concept to its full potential. While the idea of blending tradition, ancestral beliefs, and horror elements is intriguing, the uneven story flow and lack of proper character development hinder its overall impact. If you're looking for a genuinely scary and emotionally gripping experience, you might end up feeling let down.

It confronts these issues head-on, offering a raw and candid look at the messy, beautiful, and sometimes painful process of coming together as a family. This authenticity is what raises this film above a typical family drama, making it a powerful and thought-provoking piece of cinema.
Richie Koh's portrayal of the drag queen Jia Hao is nothing short of outstanding. Koh brings depth and complexity to the character, capturing both the flamboyance of Jia Hao's on-stage persona and the vulnerability of his off-stage identity. Koh's performance is both captivating and moving, elevating the film to new heights. And the rest of the cast did just an amazing job as well.
One of the strengths of this film lies in its attention to character development and how their stories intertwine with the main conflict. Each character, from Jia Hao to his estranged brother and mother, is given the space to grow and evolve, adding layers of complexity to the narrative. The relationships among the characters are deeply explored, and the honesty in portraying the real struggles faced by the characters creates a more profound and impactful viewing experience.
In conclusion, "A Good Child" is a standout Singaporean film that deserves to be recognized for its queer-positive and realistic representation of family life. Not a bad series, but a bit underdeveloped and rushed.
When you have 3 couples, some conflicts to solve, and villains to deal with within 18 episodes and 45 min runtime for each episode, the outcome would be either underwhelming or rushed or a mix of both. While this series is not exactly bad, it lands somewhere between underdeveloped and rushed.As Mik and Pinkploy's first full series together, Beauty Reborn shows promise. I’ve been looking forward to seeing them together ever since their brief scene in “Warden of the Sky.” While Mik-Pinkploy have good chemistry, it’s a bit overshadowed by the lack of development in their characters and relationship. Plus, the relationship development for the other couples (Nam-Baicha and Wayo-Sarach) feels a bit rushed, missing the depth and complexity that would really draw you in. If only they explored their dynamic more properly, this series could really shine.
There's also a significant improvement in terms of production quality. Compared to Ch7’s 2022-2023 series, I’d say this series shows a more polished look and quality. But in terms of story, the title seems to imply a transformation theme, but the actual plot seems to stray a bit from that expectation. It focused more on the political issues within the company, which kind of leaves the overall story feeling a bit underwhelming.
Overall, Beauty Reborn is a decent drama with noticeable shortcomings that prevent it from reaching its full potential. Sure, it has its ups and downs, but I found it pretty enjoyable. Honestly, I like this series for its unique approach, especially now that Ch7 is more open to including LGBTQ+ couples/stories. Unlike many Ch7 dramas that rely heavily on intense conflict and over-the-top villains, Beauty Reborn finds a nice middle ground that is neither too intense nor too lackluster. The conflicts are typical but not too much to handle, so you won’t get a headache from all the heavy plots.

Well-executed crime drama
Crime shows about serial killers are pretty common, but this series brings a fresh angle. The killer leaves behind a knitted piece with every victim that holds clues about who’s next. The well-paced plot and intricately woven with twists and the clues really engage the viewer to piece together the mystery. Plus, having an autistic character adds an extra layer of depth to the story.Bua Nalinthip deserves praise for her performance. She really breaks her rom-com leading lady persona and proves her acting ability. She totally nails the role, with all her facial expressions, eyes, and actions, making Sky a character that viewers can root for and empathize with.
When it comes to the crime genre, Thai series are more about the drama and don't usually pay attention to the forensic part. But I’m glad this series did it right. Even though the autopsy scenes are not as high-tech and detailed as the CSI, the meticulous portrayal of forensic procedures and all the nitty-gritty details adds a sense of realism to the series. I love that the director is generous with insert shots in the autopsy scene. Some murder scenes are quite graphic, but damn, I love it.
If there’s any flaw about this series, it’s the lack of emotional depth of the male lead. Although he is portrayed as a skilled detective, his character development falls short in comparison to the female lead, making his character the least emotionally engaging.
With its well-executed storytelling, standout performances, and realistic crime/forensic scenes, The Yarns has solidified its place as a must-watch for fans of crime and suspense genre.

A sci-fi GL film with potential, but...
Being Thailand's first space film, Uranus2324 seems rather promising and has a lot of potential but falls short in many aspects. I watched it three times to get to the point of writing this review.I like the idea of star-crossed lovers caught between the sea and the sky (or space), but the story itself falls a bit flat. The screenplay really drags it down. The conflicts and emotional parts are there, but the lack of a solid background story makes it difficult for me to fully invest in their journey and emotional connection. Even after watching it three times, the overall vibe still feels pretty shallow. But what I found refreshing is how this film sidesteps the topic of sexual orientation. The love shared between Kath and Lin feels very natural, and there’s no scrutiny surrounding it.
The transitions between different periods and parallel worlds are also not as smooth as they could be, making it hard for me to stay engaged throughout the film. The special effects are not bad, but occasionally feel unpolished. If the CGI had been more refined, I would've been more immersed in the experience.
Despite the shortcomings, there are a couple of redeeming qualities that make this film worth your time. First off, the cinematography is great. I'm a sucker for beauty shots, and the camerawork really captures the essence of the story in a visually appealing way. The use of color, light, and composition effectively enhances the on-screen storytelling. And let’s not forget the action scenes; those fighting, freediving and spaceship sequences are quite impressive. Another highlight is FreenBecky’s natural chemistry. Their on-screen dynamic is palpable and authentic. It helps carry the film through its weaker moments. They’ve got some serious acting chops! The way they embrace new challenges and step out of their comfort zone truly brings great results in the end.
Even though it didn't hit the mark, Uranus2324 is still a decent watch. It's a good effort overall, but if only it came with a bit more polish in the script and story pacing, it could easily become a standout sci-fi GL film.

A disaster film that focuses on SAR and nothing more.
‘Flash Over’ is a film that showcases the virtues of duty, courage, teamwork, and sacrifice of the firefighters and other emergency personnel involved in the search and rescue after the explosion of a chemical plant. In a way, it can pay tribute to the real-life heroes who put their lives on the line to save others in times of crisis. However, the spotlight is on the intense search and rescue operations, and nothing more. Even with the flashy set pieces with all the explosions, massive fires and such, it fails to ignite deeper emotion like most disaster films would.Although this movie has an intriguing story arc, the flow begins to lose its appeal in the middle. Every single plot is driven solely by suspense and action. The minimum character development makes it difficult for the viewer to get emotionally invested. Without proper backstory, all characters are simply firefighters on a mission.
One common pitfall of disaster films is that they often rely heavily on CGI to realistically depict large-scale disasters and dramatic rescue operations, and this film unfortunately falls into that pitfall. Even with good camera work, the bad CGI really detracts from the overall viewing experience.
If you're up for the action and muscular men in uniforms, this movie will give you that. But if you're looking for story and emotional impact, you better not expect too much from it. Overall, this film has so much potential to be great but somehow failed to deliver well. It ended up being a mediocre rescue film.

"Life is nothing but tragedy."
'Redlife' centers on two storylines that later on intersect in a tragic twist. The idea is not groundbreaking, but this film doesn't shy away from portraying the harsh realities of poverty and slum life. There’s a cleverly woven underlying theme of street gang, crime, drug use, girls' love, and prostitution, making it an intriguing watch for those seeking a glimpse into the gritty side of Bangkok.Although the actors’ performances and the character arcs are commendable, the main plot falls a bit flat. The story of Ter and Som seems unpolished, with some noticeable plot holes that hinder its impact. Though it feels more like a melodrama, it lacks those poignant moments and depth that challenge you to reflect deeply on the hardship the characters are going through. The ending is rather confusing. Despite the flaws, this film has decent cinematography, depicting the sympathetic insight into the lives of the less fortunate in good visual detail.
If you're up for a mildly thrilling cinematic experience with some tragic stories, this film might be your cup of tea. For me, it's a one-time watch. I like the bleak/dark concept, but this film fails to deliver it well and make it impressive.

A decent dramedy.
The story revolves around four best friends as they set out on the dream trip they planned as teenagers. The long-overdue trip finally happened after their friend’s death, as they rekindled old bonds to pay their last respects to their late friend.The premise of a group of friends going on a road trip does seem entertaining, especially when it involves the big names of leading ladies. When it comes to a movie with many leads, it’s essential to establish the characters, personalities and backstories. Throughout the movie, viewers will discover their individual personalities and backstories, but somehow the character development is pretty weak. I personally think that the only thing that saves this movie is the four leads and their natural dialogue delivery. However, there are sequences that tend to be stressful because there’s a lot of arguments and fights along the way.
The movie starts out okay, but as the story progresses, there are quite a few noticeable faults here and there, to the point where it gets lost somewhere. The flow could've been a lot better if some crucial parts of the story were tackled and handled well. Even so, it isn't all that bad.
Overall, this road trip movie is something to enjoy for its performance. It seems like there’s no acting in this movie, as all of them just had to be themselves and show how friends should really treat each other.

A decent film, but well-structured, controversial dark romance.
This is one of the dark-concept GL movies I found interesting. It reminds me of Black Swan and Thelma. The epilogue is rather bizarre, but it managed to pull the audience's attention right away. The moment it started, you knew that it was going to be full of angst, so brace yourself.The main characters, Phoenix and Jade, are two women from different backgrounds. Phoenix is an openly gay artist who lives a free-spirited life, while Jade is a prosecutor and a Catholic fundamentalist. While Phoenix is keen to pursue a relationship with Jade, it’s not exactly possible. Then there’s Meng Ye, an androgynous man. Though this movie centers on the love triangle between them, there is no romance whatsoever in this movie. Only desire and pain.
This movie has an extensive theme that ranges from jealousy, possessiveness, sexual acceptance, one’s insecurity, and unhealthy conceptions of power and sex. It also explores the analogy between sex and gender. While the theme and the storylines are quite controversial and provocative, the director handles them brilliantly and conveys them through skillful cinematography.
In my opinion, ‘Wrath of Desire’ is not a perfect movie, and it may not be everyone’s cup of tea due to the taboo and dark elements it touches on, like BDSM, self-harm, cheating, grooming, and sex abuse, but it's a well-structured movie. It's a nice blending of reality, fantasy, emotions, and desire into a tragedy-packed story. If you like dark romance or something melodramatic, and if you can handle the triggers mentioned, it’s something to watch.

It's watchable. but nothing special.
"Mon Rak Luk Tung’ was a classic hit in Thailand and this remake seems to follow the original template but with some musical twist to it. The story revolves around the love story between Khlao, a young poor farmer, and Thongkwao, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy man in the village. Their relationship is prevented by their parents, not only because of their differences in status but also because of the parents’ past issues with each other.Like other versions, this drama is meant to be a sweet romantic comedy. However, the sweet romance is somehow lacking in terms of emotional building. The ‘rich girl, poor boy’ storyline is executed pretty typically; there is nothing compelling about it. The conflicts are also not well explored, making the tension feel flat. Although I’m not really into musicals, the musical portion of this drama is acceptable and not cringey.
Every character is decently played, but no character really stands out. Mew and Charlotte's chemistry is okay and their story development is rather weak. Charlotte’s character, Thongkwao, suits her personality, but as the story progresses, there's nothing interesting about her character other than a basic girl - she’s pretty, she’s smart, she’s from a rich family, and that pretty much it. Although her acting is not outstanding, it has improved from her previous series. Saijai, played by Kwan Pinthip, is a very stereotypical depiction of a promiscuous woman. She’s the villain you won’t pay much attention to.
This drama offers beautiful scenery and nice visuals. The countryside location is just amazing. ‘Falling in Love / Mon Rak Luk Tung 2567’ has a decent premise and a good line-up of actors, but the execution is pretty weak. It may not be a well-crafted remake that balances escapism with realism, but it’s an okay drama to watch for its light dramatic plots.

Visually stunning, but 'tragic' at its heart.
First of all, I want to say that if you happen to suffer from or deal with mental issues, this movie could be concerning since it lacks trigger warnings and has inconsistent handling of very sensitive material.If you think this is a strangers-to-lovers romance movie that was filmed in a foreign country, technically, you are not wrong. But the core concept of this movie is far from the typical romantic movie you’ve seen. The idea is somewhat tragic: the FL is suffering depression and flew to Switzerland seeking assisted voluntary death (AVD), a morbid activity that’s legal there, and by chance, she meets another Pinoy, and strangely enough, they bond over the mutual understanding of AVD.
Visually, this movie offers the best views of the picturesque natural beauty of Switzerland. During the 1 hour 48 min running time, it almost feels like I’m watching a travelogue rather than a movie. Ironically, while this movie provides your eyes with breathtaking scenery and shows a few experiences you can add to your bucket list, the essence of it is disheartening. The dialogues could’ve been done in a better way, especially when the mental health issue is the midpoint of the movie’s narrative. Even as someone who doesn’t deal with serious mental issues, I found it depressing, especially the often juxtaposed scenes of emotional disarray of two people strolling across beautiful Swiss landscapes like it’s a sweet romcom.
Mental health is a sensitive topic to discuss in any medium, especially when it touches on the idea of ending one's life. While this movie attempted to encourage conversation about this topic, with some reminders of self-love, it wasn't being handled with the right amount of sensitivity. Just when I thought there would be a light at the end of the tunnel, the ending turned out to be gloomier than I expected. Tons of beauty shots couldn't save this movie. The way it romanticizes suicide is a bit problematic. It’s frustrating to see the lack of basic research by the filmmakers on the right approach to a sensitive subject.
In terms of acting, Kylie Padilla handles her character and scenes efficiently. Playing a character with such a significant psychological and existential burden is not easy. Gerald Anderson, on the other hand, isn’t really noteworthy. He has his charms, but they fail to impress beyond that. While Kylie and Gerald show a decent chemistry, their intended romantic dialogues sound contrived.

A watchable, light drama, but could've been better.
This drama is like Hotel de Luna meets the American dramas Miracle Workers and The Good Place, with a slightly different setting. Even if you haven’t watched the parent story, you can still get the whole idea of this spinoff. The premise is not something relatively new – people stuck in purgatory while waiting to be sent to either heaven or hell – this spinoff tells the story in an almost familiar setting we’ve seen before. The only thing that caught my interest is how they portray Hell, which looks like a paradise and is interpreted as a paradise for all the crime and illegal things.The plots are quite predictable, with not many subplots that will give you surprise and suspense. There isn't much to be impressed with or complain about in terms of character as well. Most characters have their own backstory, but it doesn’t have much depth to make you feel related to the character. FL and ML have good chemistry, which earns this drama a little extra point. Given the hanging finale, I suppose there will be a second season. So far, I enjoyed this drama, but it could've been better.

Should you give this movie a chance?
If you have seen 'One More Chance', you might want to watch this movie. But don't expect it to be the upgraded version because it might not be what you expect. Popoy and Basha’s flawed relationship in the prequel survived, and this movie takes an observant look at their married life with a subtle focus on the ‘seven-year marriage itch’.The storyline progressed in phases: from the wedding, then fast-forward to the present day. It gives an understanding of what is going to happen next, which is the challenges they are facing of being married. It’s understandable that so much could change their dynamic as a couple after almost 12 years together (they dated for 5 years in One More Chance and married for 7 years in this movie). I’d say that the conflict doubles down on the movie’s realness and is reasonably exaggerated for melodrama’s sake.
Bea and John Lloyd, as usual, deliver a good performance. They are who they should be, as they just perform naturally while giving sincerity to their roles. Their chemistry is undeniable. There are moments that made me smile, sad, frustrated and even made me go “aww!”
Like the prequel, A Second Chance is not lacking in sweet romance, some corny lines, dramatic conflicts and arguments, supportive friends, and a predictable ending – a standard romance-drama formula. The emotional rollercoaster is there, but not enough to leave a lingering feeling or a lasting impact. There are a few things that I think could’ve been done better, but overall, the movie is not bad.
