Actually the emperor in this drama is not so powerful, the court is broken, none of those ministers are loyal or capable or be a good official but all of them they just fight for power between clan and their own interest, instead of doing an actually job for people.

woman in those time really didn't go out much. Here, her husband doesn't have high rank in court, and their relationship circle with other official is quite small, remember they said once that he invited others official to their party and no one came, but some recognized her as the owner of the shop ..etc..

I think bcs at the beginning, the plan seem like only his mother and sister, they didn't want to kill her, but only set up her so he can divorce her, then he found out their plan, he didn't only allow them follow to do their plan but also found that as a chance for him to finish everything clean. While pp are seeing him with some reason here and there but actually he is the most pathetic one, the most evil one with all calculation in his mind but try to portraying as a victim, I think he will show more and more of his cruel side
