His comments to Changyu while off hand, particularly if he respected her for her resilience & courage up until this point; rose out of anger, confusion and feelings of betrayal.

Weak fighter or not, he occupies an important position and with it, morale. Welcome to the world of military, whose constant dilemma is the decision between preserving for possible greater good, vs sacrifice with integrity & honor out of morale (and risk forsaking what the goals of war meant to serve.)

Li H'An is so far shown to be of one mind with the latter. Hence why Changyu challenged him to re-examine what this honor was meant to protect. As noble as he felt his reasons were, was it out of necessity or pride?

Mans is obvs not cut for fighting the way our leads are. He barely made it alive in two separate wars.

He is however better off alive than dead, as his role will be crucial upcoming in the war between factions (Wei, Xie and Li).

Depending on how the writing pulls off, they either ruined the Li H'An character with rushed inconsistent writing. Or this was a pivotal character development moment to truly check what his sense of honor really means. Otherwise, he'd be manipulated as a well intended pawn by less than well intended forces greater than his own.

Li Huai'an is truly a bad apple.. But I get why he would feel insulted by Changyu's actions. It was uncalled for.…
Care to elaborate on why Li Huaian is truly a bad apple? You made a claim without any actual reasons. He is very valid in his anger, by the way. Although Changyu made a bold and perhaps lifesaving move, he had the autonomy of leading his reinforcement into a highly crucial battle (and one that turns out to be the last of his Master) taken away from him.

Edit: you edited your post to include the reasons after my comment - which is fine too though for the spirit of discussion; a reply rather than edit would've been preferable

With all the free time in the world, and not wanting to be completely useless either I imagine, children of royals and noble elites are often required to take up higher education, arts or some refined skill not affordable to the average common folk who is busy making ends meet or learning essential survival skills. Hence why the first time we meet her she was a student in the academy.

She has studied medicine but was just sheltered and likely inexperienced as all the herb medicine she recommended were all high end ingredients only affordable to the upper echelons.

I still find it hard to believe the frontliner soldiers did not knew YZ is the Marquis. He is the general that…
I recall one of the conversations YZ had this formation was specially arranged so only a few men had access to him. Only his immediate cavalry knows what he looks like. Figures why the search for him early on was so difficult as not many can identify him. There's a strategic reason behind it. While in the army, people identify one another via uniform and soldiers are split under commanders and generals as they can't all be possibly led by the Marquis.

No, it doesn't follow the novel. In the novel, she stole the rations and food. She never had contact with SYQ…
Good to know the novel didn't actually go there with this part of the plot. Kinda makes this worse knowing the creative liberties taken came at the cost of common sense

Ngl, I felt emotional with princess and GS. They're adorable. Their romance is just so cute
Yes! This arc was good growth for the Princess. She is learning to see reality far beyond the palace walls. More she sees the world and people beyond herself instead of just her own feelings; somehow it also brings GS closer. I enjoy watching them together

Ep 25 Changyu was WAY too reckless. How could she possibly release a high profile hostage and criminal like Sui Yanqing for military ration?? I don't see how this improves morale from army standpoint either the way she attempts to justify it. Imagine going to literal war and suffering substantial casualties to stop someone like Sui Yuanqing. Can't imagine any soldier on that camp will want this esp the Xie forces. It wasn't just rash but a brainless move in that moment. More surprising is all the military commanders around allowing this to happen. Unless this follows the novel and serves as important plot device, this part is just senseless writing imo.
I fear releasing that psycho will unleash consequences that her and her squad wouldn't be able to bear one day.

The visuals of the men in this drama!!. For me, Chancellor Wei and that grey haired madman hit differently.
The actor was known for his insane visual charisma back then and still is handsome now

Person Huang Jun Jie
He could've had a career like Zhang Ling He at some point. He had the looks , presence and youth going on for him, plus showed potential early on in supporting roles. But I dont think he quite developed into leading role material after being given a few weak scripts which also didnt do him justice
