100% about Sui Yanqing. I thought he was interestingly layered. Despite being an unhinged sadist, we saw more than a few instances of him being about family. Also while he was far from a man of honor he also had his own code. He despised disloyalty in others even if it worked to his advantage; and appreciated loyalty even in his enemies.

It's all over the place and fell right back into classic Cdrama flaws of inconsistent storytelling, just when it managed to have everything going for it past midway

Feels like I spoke too soon a few days ago. The writing is ridiculous and the writers just gave up

Really liked him as Li Huai An

Ooo I have not! But I see Li Yitong and Liu Yuning and I'm already sold. Add to that an ancient genre comedy that isn't a cheesy low budget, I just might have to add this to my watchlist. Thanks for the rec! I saw some clips of the GS actor - Li Qing - and he seems to have taken on the lighthearted role in quite a few works. I like how he can switch to a very comedic touch one moment, and convey lingering emotions in his eyes the next. Of all the actors I discovered from this show, he is one of my favorites

So much attention on the leads and even 2nd couple, but secondary actors esp Gongsun Yin, Li Huaian and Jin Yuanbao also hold out for a very strong supporting cast. Ofc Yan Kuan (Wei Yan) goes without saying. Personally amongst all the actors I discovered in PoJ, I find GSY actor to be one to watch out for - he's got great emotional range and is very expressive

The recent developments in the last few eps past ep 27 were not only rushed but require major suspension of logic. Hearing major plot lines cut that would've made some of these developments make sense, was such a shame. I heard in the novel (not a novel reader fyi) FCY trained under a general to develop into a battle ready warrior. Including bits of this even in a fasttracked time crunch sequence, would've made more sense than her achieving all almost overnight on her own. They literally girl bossed her so hard they sacrificed many other important elements

Yeah it's actually refreshing to read other real takes on this drama, and not just the 1000th fangirl comment blinded by how hot the main couple looks together.

So glad to see others who also feel the same that the drama lost its steam more than halfway through

I still enjoy the show, but am feeling the same very much. Hype may be deserved or not depending who you ask, always best to make your own judgment for this reason.

They're having good ol' dose of PTSD from having to teach her. It's heavy literature and classic academia. CY literacy has long ways to go. Endless nightmare for all sides because they're realizing they also have to explain basic reading, writing and literary devices. However amidst her feeling like a lost cause, she remembers how easy it was to learn under XZ and even Grand tutor Tao. They don't speak a different language to her; but rather translate it to a level she could understand.

Sadly they really are rushing the last episodes, and will now make LingAn arc look unnecessarily long at the expense of resolving the main storyline and political mystery.

While we all love how much CY is empowered in her story, I wish we get to see more of her owning up to and being accountable for the parts that she contributes to in any misunderstanding. So far it's just her always having her reasons which is always justified, and everyone else being the first to apologize or initiate repair. She holds others to a standard that she herself would not accept if it is the other way around

Glad to have some lightheartedness and good laughs again in ep 31 following all the nonstop tragedy. Like the hall sign says it's truly "A Sea of Learning" for CY 😂

Agreed. I commented how the show's writing was good even up until halfway point, but in the last few episodes it's starting to show where it's inconsistent and almost farfetched. I really hope it's not a case of rushed writing at the cost of the last half

First off, not a novel reader here. It's always interesting to hear from those who read where the details contrast and the direction the drama adaptation takes.

Now I feel like I am interpreting that last part differently. I see his Mentor's last words to him, and him burning both the banners sent from his own grandfather and the Chancellor, as a sign he plans to take neither side. The sense of duty/service General He reminded him of, clearly runs opposite of Li clan's overarching influence and ambition. But that does not mean he will align with the mortal enemy Wei clan who appears to stand on propriety but is underhanded.

In earlier discussions with XZ, he states his intent to forge his own path despite understanding his position and expectations to carry the Li family interests and legacy. XZ has even commented he is different from those of his clan.

I guess we will find out in coming eps.

With how they treated Sui Yuanqing as a slapping post, I guess we had it coming our beloved Pig Butcher Squad was not going to walk away scot free after all. Poor Man Di though .. him surviving that first one really got our hopes up :(. I believe he was also the first one to befriend and claim Changyu as sister

True. Changyu would NOT have been okay being decided for like this either
