Title The Oath of Love Spoiler
Ep 23 (DVD version) thoughts: You hear that? That's the sound of my heart breaking. I knew from spoilers that it's gonna be a tough ep, but actually watching it was so hard. Let's start with the bright spot which was that VERY HOT map kiss. Dayum GW is slowly unrestraining himself lol. Aaaaaaand it's a shitstorm after that. I work in healthcare although on the administrative side, but I also provide customer service to patients and families, so I relate so much to what GW is experiencing. Obviously I don't provide direct patient care so the risk is way less than what doctors/nurses have to deal with, but I totally understand what it feels like to be on the receiving end of escalations like this. Sometimes the family just doesn't understand logic or common sense no matter how many times you explain. My work is just administrative and I've already had several scenarios where parents threaten to pursue legal action, so I can imagine the stress GW is feeling as a doctor who is in danger of having a medical malpractice lawsuit. Even though he didn't do anything wrong. Even though he was trying to save a life. That's the harsh reality that doctors have to face. XZ has always been great with sad scenes so it's no surprise he's doing so well at portraying all the different emotions GW is experiencing. He doesn't even need to say anything; you can tell by looking at his face and eyes that he's fallen to the bottom and is hurting. The light has literally left his eyes. His acting just makes you feel so heartbroken for GW. I hate how much life imitates art though when it comes to his dramas - from The Untamed to this. These two dramas showed how public/internet opinion and bandwagoning can crush someone. GW had his picture taken against his will and posted on the internet, and the parents spreading false info about him. Now he's being bombarded by hate comments. As a fan who went through 2020, it gives me chills that this was filmed just a few months before you-know-what. It made me remember some awful stuff that happened and made watching this ep especially painful. But on the positive side, XZ may have pulled from GW's experience to help him overcome his own struggles. Because ultimately, real gold isn't afraid of fire. The dinner scene isn't even finished in this ep and I'm already at my limit. I hurt for both GW and LZX. GW can't make promises because he doesn't even know what his own future is gonna be like now that he's suspended, a lawsuit hangs over his head, and he can't go to Germany. I understand why it's so hard for him to tell her - he wants to protect her and not make her worry. But I also see things from LZX's side. Poor girl was trying to ease the tension at the table and my heart broke when GW removed her hand. We know what's up, but she doesn't. She was expecting this to be a happy discussion and now she's left cold and confused. They better make up tomorrow because this angst is killing me. I wanted angst but at what cost? LOL. Just fabulous acting from YZ and XZ to make us feel this roller coaster of emotions.

Ep 22 (DVD version) Thoughts: The scene where he treats her wound was so tender. And lmao at the difference between her parents' reaction. I'm her mom btw. The rooftop scene was so fluffy and natural. I say that a lot but seriously, their scenes just feel so genuine and even unscripted at times. Their chemistry is through the roof (pun intended? haha). GW speaking in German was hot. I love the evolution of the rooftop scenes from when they first got to know each other to now being in a relationship. It's a running motif and works really well - it's like their own secret place separate from the rest of the world. From spoilers I already know there's a storm ahead and I'm not ready *cries*.

Xiao Zhan's face and especially eyes are so expressive. I mean he demonstrates this in every drama, but damn there's such a range of emotions that he portrays without any dialogue here. You can look at his face and know what his character is thinking/feeling. For example, the way GW looks at LZX can be tender, loving, or smoldering. His acting just makes me so cognizant of every little gesture or expression even when he has no lines. Like in my head I thought, "Lord the way he looks at her is as if she's his entire world." It feels like he's truly the character and not just acting out scene by scene. He has natural talent/charisma and the ability to capture the viewers' attention. It's a quality that can't be taught. And let me just say something about his visuals lol. I've been a fan since 2019 so I guess because I see his face so much I sometimes "forget" how good looking he is. Like I know he's gorgeous, but he's so much more than just a face that I'd be talking about his acting or singing or his personality. But then I see other actors, look at XZ, and I realize over and over how deadly his visuals are lmao. His smile alone is to die for. Just me fangirling.

Ep 21 (DVD version) Thoughts: The sunset scene was filmed beautifully! Love the kiss and the OST being played; it was perfect. Their banter between who liked who first was so cute lol. Mr. Lin is so perceptive with all the weird behaviors that his daughter is exhibiting haha. Them pretending to insult each other in the hall was hilarious. GW's face when Mr. Lin called him an elder was priceless. XZ is really good with deadpan humor scenes. Then LZX had to tease him by calling him elder too loll. Poor guy is always being made fun of for his age even though he looks so young at times. The scene in the hospital room where they were holding on to each other was so heart-fluttering. The way LZX played with his ears and their nose-touching - even more than the kisses, I love the casual, natural romantic gestures like these. I thought the little notebooks were so cute and how they both have one. Goodness lord the way GW looked at her in this scene - XZ has such expressive eyes and you can see how much GW is in love with LZX just with these tender (but hot) looks. I'm already spoiled so I know angst is on its way. I normally love angst but with this drama I pray it'll go by fast because I can't see them angry/sad. I'm so emotionally invested. Can't believe the drama is ending in a week; it's going to be so hard not having new eps to look forward to, but I guess I'll just rewatch.

The little theaters are genius and are the icing on the top of an already very delicious cake lol. Xiao Zhan and Yang Zi's chemistry is just insane.

Ep 20 (DVD version) Thoughts: GAHHHH one of my favorite eps. I know I keep saying that but really, this ep had my heart squeezed so tight. I do think LZX can be childish at times, but what I like is that she also moves on fast. She doesn't hold grudges and doesn't remain angry for long. GW freaking out because of the condoms was so hilarious. But she still ended up seeing it lol. They're so awkward but it's endearing and it makes sense because it's their first overnight trip together. I freaking LOVE the bridge scene. I know I'm gonna replay that scene a lot. Goodness, I've said it so many times but how can their acting be that natural, real, and effortless? It was hilarious seeing LZX get scared and clinging on to GW like a koala bear lol. Their body language is so damn good. Other dramas throw in lots of kiss scenes but the chemistry here is on a whole different level from just the looks, the head touches, the hugs. They really don't rely on just kisses to show how in love they are. It's in the details. I'm very impressed with YZ's acting; LZX is cute but not overtly cute. OMG the sofa scene was so dramatic with the thunder and rain lmaooo. This drama is both sugary and hilarious. Aaand of course I can't write this comment without talking about the final sequence. GW's teasing/flirting was honestly hotter than some actual bed scenes I've seen. My lord, the way he looked at her, his lips (damnnnn those lips) - WHEW. I didn't expect XZ to be this natural and good in these types of scenes. This was his first serious modern drama and he blew it out of the park! I was not prepared and I've been a fan since 2019. Like....he was soooo good. Major props to the scriptwriter for portraying this matter in a sensitive way. I actually liked that they didn't go all the way because I felt it would have been too typical and not fitting with their characters. GW is a mature man who loves and respects LZX. He respects her boundaries and wants to cherish her by taking things at her pace. LZX is a young girl who grew up in a strict family, so it makes sense for her to not be ready. And that's okay. Every couple is different, and you don't have to do what everyone else is doing. I love that GW explained things to LZX so that she didn't overthink or misunderstand that he didn't love/desire her. This whole scene felt so much more intimate and sincere than if they actually got it on. Acting again on point. And the waking up scene my GOODNESS. They are not letting us breathe!! They were so natural that again I felt like I was invading their privacy! The tender kisses, the cuddles - how am I going to live when this drama is over? Do guys like Gu Wei even exist in real life? YZ and XZ's chemistry is on fire. It's unbelievable how good they are.

Ep 19 (DVD version) Thoughts: We finally got the highly anticipated polaroid scene after the pics floated around on the internet a long time ago. I can't even describe how cute and natural that scene was. The way he looked at her and the cheek kisses - I'm gonna melt lol. The "do you want to try" scene and then "meat" scene were so flirtatious and hot! GW you're such a rogue but I love it! He's showing his playful side and XZ does such a good job with these scenes. The rest of the ep was frustrating. I totally get Jin Shi wanting some personal space/private time. Even if you're a couple, you still need time to be alone or time spent with other people. Or else it'd be so suffocating. GW was just analyzing their situation from an outside perspective, without thinking LZX would misinterpret it to be about them too. LZX still needs to mature and trust in her and GW instead of being influenced by her friends. But I also get it, she's young and inexperienced and is given bad advice. It's easy to be influenced by what's happening around you. They also just started dating so she's just insecure. I just hope that she'll learn to trust GW and herself once their relationship stabilizes. I'm 25 and I still find myself acting immature sometimes (with different issues), so I get where she's at and where the growth areas are.

I've watched a lot of romance dramas and I've never felt more single in my life than watching TOOL. It's thanks to the script and most importantly, Xiao Zhan and Yang Zi's killer chemistry. And yeah I can't deny it, also because GW is played by XZ. I was already a stan but I'm a next-level super stan after this drama lol.

Ep 18 (DVD version) Thoughts: Another great ep. I love the scene when LZX goes to GW's home and they just have a quick/casual kiss but I was squealing. Once again, their chemistry is off the charts. I also really like LZX making it clear to Shao Jiang of her feelings, and differentiating what she felt for him in high school vs what she feels now for GW. Love what she said about how there is no what-ifs because that's exactly how real life works too. There is no what if, only the present. And sometimes it is all about timing, and what she said about meeting the right person at the right time. Just really love that scene and how Shao Jiang gets proper closure (and steps out respectfully lol). Haha now it's LZX's turn to be jealous. Love how GW saw her and purposely said some things to stir her up lmao. I thought the blind date girl was really classy too. Love GuLin's banter afterward and the way he pulled her closer - lorddddd find me a GW that looks like XZ lolll. I mean seriously, get you a man that writes your name in the acknowledgment section of his freaking academic paper. Enlightening his present AND future? He's a keeper. But no for reals, GW has his own ways of expressing his love for LZX. This was the perfect way to do it. And what he said about making memories with her going forward - gahhhh I am so single. The points his parents raised about LZX are not unreasonable. These are things they'll have to work out if they want to have a future together. The drama just does a great job of making me feel like if it's LZX and GW, they'll be able to overcome their differences and bring out the best in each other. I have a lot of favorite scenes but one of them is when she brings him food. It's a simple scene, but gawd their acting. Major props to YZ and XZ for making my heart flutter with even the simplest moments.

Ep 17 (DVD version) thoughts: OMG LZX trying her best to impress GW by dressing more elegantly. I thought she looked really pretty, and I could feel her pain with the high heels. OUCH. Him pulling up her shirt was so funny lol. And the iconic eyelid tape pulling scene HAHAHA. Why is GW like this sometimes? He was buried in textbooks and never knew about any of this makeup stuff hehe. But I love that Xiaoxiao only got a bit mad and they were sweet again when they were alone. Once again where can I find a Gu Wei? I love the scene of him massaging her feet; such a tender and romantic gesture. And how he wants her to be comfortable and healthy - best boyfriend right there. AND THEIR FIRST KISS OMG. Finally. The theme song playing was perfect too; such a beautiful sweet scene. I squealed when GW showed up at school and LZX jumped right into his arms in the most natural, effortless manner. My gosh XZ and YZ have amazing chemistry. GW wearing the couple shirt is so hilarious because it's so unlike him. But love that he's putting Shao Jiang in his place.

I know it's greedy of me since this was already filmed in 2019 but can we get more real-time promo from the TOOL team, like them doing another press conference or a concert or whatever? I know we've already been spoiled but I want even more! The cast/crew looks like they had so much fun and it would be great to see them reunite for an event.

Ep 16 (DVD version) Thoughts: Not me adding GW to my top list of favorite male fictional characters. He's setting the standards far too high. How alpha and badass was he telling his colleagues and seniors that he likes LZX and that she's his girlfriend? GAHHH he set the record freaking straight and then ran after his girl right away. So decisive and hot. I was smiling like a fool during that ultra-sweet confession scene! I felt their happiness like it was my own. That's the power of their acting. XZ and YZ just breathe life into their characters and make you invested. It was so in character for GW to give LZX his grandmother's bracelet as a love heirloom. That just shows how much he values her. No need for crazy fireworks or displays, just a pure way of showing his love. And when he knew she hadn't drank the pepsi bottle yet! That detail was so well thought out. She loves Pepsi and he wrote his confession on it. Then she writes her response and sends him the pic. They are the absolute cutest! I felt a bit bad for Gao Xi and thought Ma Yu Jie did a good job in that scene. Turns out she has a plan B so I hope she'll find her own happiness lol. That good morning boyfriend/girlfriend scene - gonna get a cavity from the sugar. We better be getting a real kiss scene soon; turn your dreams into reality LZX!

Ep 15 (DVD Version) Thoughts: I LOVE THIS EP SO MUCH. I'm so happy the conflict didn't drag on as with other dramas. Bless. The princess carry - I could feel my heart squeeze tight in my chest! That was so hot of Dr. Gu. The whole scene of him feeding her porridge and then letting her cling on to his arm was too precious. And here comes one of my favorite scenes ever in any drama - the allergy scene. I've rewatched it so many times and it just doesn't get old. It's absolutely thanks to the great acting of the leads and their chemistry. I am especially impressed with YZ's very natural and realistic acting here. I've always paid attention to how pleasant and emotive her voice is, and this scene is excellent demonstration of that. Xiaoxiao looked so vulnerable and I totally understood how she didn't want to look "ugly" in front of her crush. GW showing how he cares and saying she always looks pretty in his eyes - where can I find a Gu Wei? He is out here raising the bar for what we should expect from men. XZ's Luckiest Fortune was also the perfect OST; hearing his sweet voice was icing on the cake. The scene felt so damn intimate; once again I felt like I was peeking into their lives and catching a very private moment. A lot of romantic scenes in other dramas feel awkward or fake; this one wasn't even intended to be romantic but it just made me fangirl so hard. I also love the moment GW hears that the Lin family decided to stay in China for treatment because of him. It felt like a redeeming moment for him after they were discussing whether to go abroad. XZ's acting on point here. We also got the scene of them running in the rain with him carrying her cello - a classic scene by now since we saw it a lot in the trailers. So simple but I love it. Then the classic subway scene where he says it's not a doctor's job to walk a patient's family member to the subway. It may be just me but I always love train/subway scenes in dramas, and this one was simple but beautifully filmed. I'm so happy they're happy.

Title The Oath of Love Spoiler
Ep 14 (DVD version) thoughts: I think the conflict of domestic vs abroad medical treatment is realistic because lots of Asians think foreign things are better. Asian parents want their kids to study abroad, buy goods abroad, or get medical treatment abroad. I just can't stand Shao Jiang's attitude of wanting to control/direct the Lin family after being gone with no contact for four years. Four freaking years and he now acts like he knows everything. I also want to scream at Gu Xiao for not minding his damn business and using GW's phone to text LZX. I get that he's on his brother's side but don't ever use someone else's phone to text another person, esp his freaking crush. And of COURSE Sansan causing even more of a mess by sending an out-of-context photo. These two should just leave GuLin alone and let them work things out for themselves. Their conversation at the cafe was just so frustrating because they're just angry and jealous, and using Papa Lin's matter to lash out at each other. I get it. It's a very human thing to do. When all these little things add up, suddenly logic fails you and you just act and say things based on the emotions you feel in the moment. Just because you want to hurt the other person. That's made worse by LZX and GW not knowing their positions in the other person's life - Who am I to her/him? I know they'll resolve the conflict soon so I watch these eps with a bit less pain lol. A relationship can't always be smooth sailing. The difference is whether conflict/misunderstanding will cause two people to drift apart or become closer. That's the real test for GuLin and I'm so excited to see them make up. Give me sugar please!!

Title The Oath of Love Spoiler
Ep 13 (DVD version) thoughts: Grrrrrr Sansan. She thinks every guy will take her taunting as a challenge to fight for his crush but forgot that everyone is different and GW isn't a young, immature dude. He's a 30yo introverted professional who's going to internalize and think that Shao Jiang is a better match for LZX. He doesn't want to be competing in a juvenile way with someone who's younger. The music box thing was so frustrating but I get why he would think that way. He isn't a music major so it's easy for him to misunderstand and second-guess his gift (even though I love it GW lol). He's doubting himself and pulling back into his shell which we can see by him avoiding LZX. And on her end, she's going to feel confused and sad. It's just frustrating when we as viewers know they like each other, but they themselves haven't confessed their feelings so they're in this weird situation. Can I pay for express shipping to ship Shao Jiang to US/UK/wherever he'll stay out of the Lin family's life? This guy thinks he's all that because he studied abroad and has connections. Did no one wonder how he found out Papa Lin has cancer? LMAO at him showing up at the hospital wanting GW to give him the medical records. Because why tf would a doctor do that and break patient confidentiality? I work with medical records so it's so laughable how he, essentially a stranger from a legal POV, can waltz in and think he can take someone's medical records. GW was so badass telling him to f*** off lol.
