Title The Oath of Love Spoiler
Ep 23 (DVD version) thoughts: You hear that? That's the sound of my heart breaking. I knew from spoilers that it's gonna be a tough ep, but actually watching it was so hard. Let's start with the bright spot which was that VERY HOT map kiss. Dayum GW is slowly unrestraining himself lol. Aaaaaaand it's a shitstorm after that. I work in healthcare although on the administrative side, but I also provide customer service to patients and families, so I relate so much to what GW is experiencing. Obviously I don't provide direct patient care so the risk is way less than what doctors/nurses have to deal with, but I totally understand what it feels like to be on the receiving end of escalations like this. Sometimes the family just doesn't understand logic or common sense no matter how many times you explain. My work is just administrative and I've already had several scenarios where parents threaten to pursue legal action, so I can imagine the stress GW is feeling as a doctor who is in danger of having a medical malpractice lawsuit. Even though he didn't do anything wrong. Even though he was trying to save a life. That's the harsh reality that doctors have to face. XZ has always been great with sad scenes so it's no surprise he's doing so well at portraying all the different emotions GW is experiencing. He doesn't even need to say anything; you can tell by looking at his face and eyes that he's fallen to the bottom and is hurting. The light has literally left his eyes. His acting just makes you feel so heartbroken for GW. I hate how much life imitates art though when it comes to his dramas - from The Untamed to this. These two dramas showed how public/internet opinion and bandwagoning can crush someone. GW had his picture taken against his will and posted on the internet, and the parents spreading false info about him. Now he's being bombarded by hate comments. As a fan who went through 2020, it gives me chills that this was filmed just a few months before you-know-what. It made me remember some awful stuff that happened and made watching this ep especially painful. But on the positive side, XZ may have pulled from GW's experience to help him overcome his own struggles. Because ultimately, real gold isn't afraid of fire. The dinner scene isn't even finished in this ep and I'm already at my limit. I hurt for both GW and LZX. GW can't make promises because he doesn't even know what his own future is gonna be like now that he's suspended, a lawsuit hangs over his head, and he can't go to Germany. I understand why it's so hard for him to tell her - he wants to protect her and not make her worry. But I also see things from LZX's side. Poor girl was trying to ease the tension at the table and my heart broke when GW removed her hand. We know what's up, but she doesn't. She was expecting this to be a happy discussion and now she's left cold and confused. They better make up tomorrow because this angst is killing me. I wanted angst but at what cost? LOL. Just fabulous acting from YZ and XZ to make us feel this roller coaster of emotions.
