I was a bit disappointed with him in that scene. I prefer my MLs with a bit more "bite". He feels like a wet blanket…
For the Marquis, he's protected by the emperor. The emperor knows that Han Ye and the Marquis are opponents in court, and he wants to keep the two in balance. So Han Ye won't act until he has something that without a doubt will finish his opponent, and the emperor has no way to wriggle out of it.
That was Han Ye's bodyguard (for 7 years). HY wanted to spare him that's why he didn't bring palace guards. The…
In the novel King Mu (Han Ye's elder brother, who doesn't seem to be in the drama) saved his life. So he vowed to help King Mu to become crown prince. After working with Han Ye for 7 years though, he felt Han Ye was a better crown prince than King Mu would be.
Dilraba Dilmurat cant act either. But she has a formula it works. I seriously doubt she can do romance. Cheery…
My friend, there are lots of people born in the year of the Monkey...I don't think you can fit everyone neatly into an astrological sign. At the very least you should consider the rest of her astrological chart? Please post that if you have it.
it's funny how ordinary people say that reba couldn't act even though the professional jury gave her dozens of…
Her acting in this is top notch so far. Very agile.
I actually think Gong Jun suffers from the same problem. His acting is layered and nuanced, and you can often understand what the character is feeling just from a minute change in his facial expression, but people are saying he's a terrible actor. I have to remind myself there are lots of people in the world who have trouble recognizing emotions in their real lives :)
It's probably harder to follow a plot too when the actors and actresses are too good-looking...people keep looking at their faces and tuning out what they actually said. Then it's "this plot makes no sense!"
If you like trying to figure out what's real and what's not, watching real relationships develop, and using your brain to think about the plot, then this is a good drama for you.
Part of the problem for this drama is that I think people are used to taking C-drama characters at face value and they just assume the actors are bad. They don't seem to take into account that the actors are playing characters who are all (every last one of them) hiding something at some point in the story. The acting is very layered and nuanced. FL is hiding the fact that she's someone else with over-the-top flamboyant flirting. ML is hiding the fact that...well, that's still a spoiler for episodes that haven't released yet :)
I'm really enjoying it so far...but I tend to dislike shows with predictable plots and dumb characters and people that make no sense and fall in love with each other for no apparent reason. I can't get invested in those characters, because I sort of feel like "Well, if this ML dies, FL fell in love so easily she'll just find another one. Meh." Or "What on earth...they knew each other for 10 minutes and this ML is already risking his life, he must be so superficial he'd kill himself over anyone with a pretty face."
Not so with this one. I'm up to episode 9 and I'm already seeing why it would make sense for either one of them to risk their lives for the other. The director described it as "a love story on a grand background." 100% agree so far!
GAH. This slow burn is seriously killing me. When does he find out?? How far in the novel do they tell? is it…
In the novel he gets suspicious as soon as he starts interacting with the fake one. After that he starts putting things together pretty quickly, but being Han Ye, he also quickly realizes that he needs to hide her identity. I'm looking forward to watching him put the pieces of the puzzle together :) As many characters note, it's best to just assume Han Ye will find out eventually because you just can't hide anything from him.
It's a realistic rate. I really hate those dramas where I can't figure out why people even like each other. Like, what is it about this guy/girl that you like so much that you'd risk your life?
In this, the progression of their feelings for each other is very believable. If they don't have that build-up for a genuine relationship, later events are going to seem very out-of-place! How else do you get two extremely smart, calculating people to take the ridiculous risks we all like to see?
Yes, there is a fake Di Ziyuan. Luo Mingxi found her and basically let her take Di Ziyuan's place in imprisonment…
BIG SPOILER:
He became blind due to the severity of his injuries at Yunjing. The girl who helps him is the Beiqin princess, Mo Shuang. While she does like him at some level, she helps him for her own reasons...
I did not enjoy this drama after watching 4 Eps. Did not get the FL acting . Her playful acts were not convinced.…
I'm not sure you'll like this drama. It's based on a book where a bunch of really smart people are all trying to outmaneuver each other, and literally everyone's hiding something at some point or another.
I'm only a couple of episodes in, it's good so far but does the ML improve? The problem with Nice guy ML's is…
ML has always been a cut above the rest. He just doesn't have anything to prove to anyone. If he's anything like in the novel, he keeps his cards close to the chest and only brings them out if he's got a goal to reach.
So he ends up falling off a cliff twice, is that right? It seems like it from spoilers. That seems excessive.
I don't think the drama can do much about that because both of the cliff episodes are canon from the original work, and novel fans would have gone rabid if the key parts of the novel were left out. If you're going to get criticized either way, best to go with the novel and blame the novelist ;p
In summary of the last few days of discussion on MDL...
1. Good subs weren't available for episode 1 when it first aired, so original rating was in the 7 range. Youku fixed the subs the second day, but the damage was done.
2. People off-put, saying Gong Jun doesn't have any facial expressions. But actually...that's Han Ye's setting. He's supposed to be really hard to read, so no one really knows what he's thinking most of the time. Gong Jun playing Han Ye is easier to read than novel Han Ye (out of necessity...you don't get Han Ye's inner thoughts like when you're reading a novel, so Gong Jun has to act out his inner emotions, but subtly...). He's doing a great job in my opinion.
3. People off-put, saying Reba's acting feels fake. But actually...it's because she's playing Di Ziyuan who's playing Ren Anle who's in love with Han Ye. Di Ziyuan's acting isn't perfect, which is why Ren Anle's flirting comes off as "superficial." You also get some great acting where you can tell Di Ziyuan is genuinely stunned and impressed by Han Ye before she goes back to her Ren Anle persona.
I need help. I didn't read the whole novel, only a few breakouts, and I'm incredibly confused. First, Anle dies…
Hi!
Anle never dies in battle.
Di Ziyuan is supposed to be imprisoned on Mount Dai since she was a child. But in fact, Luo Mingxi had her switched out with a fake, and she instead ends up growing up in Anle Abode as Ren Anle. So Ren Anle is a fake identity, and she has always been Di Ziyuan.
Google/machine translation can be confusing because "Di" is often translated as "Emperor." Di Ziyuan is never emperor, her last name is being translated as "emperor." When it says "the emperor family" it often should be "the Di family." The Han family in the novel never loses the throne.
Sometime her flirting scenes looks very creepy because it's totally fake.
That's because the flirting is fake. You can tell when she's Ren Anle flirting because that's the plan...vs when she's Di Ziyuan actually getting flattened by Han Ye's face. Reba's doing a great job!
