I struggle to understand why xiao shunyao is cast in a more prominent role than Fang Yilun when the latter is…
You can probably try googling it but I'm not sure if it will come up easily. I tried to find the links but it was months ago and it's not coming up now. CY mentioned during an interview while back about recommending xsy. But he didn't say if it was specifically that role or just in general as a mention. And I was hearing that xsy mentioned it and thanked him during a live stream and credited him for helping him. Honestly I don't know much about CY because I've only seen him in one thing. But he doesn't seem the type to actively push for someone. But he's also a big name so I can see him randomly commenting because there's an issue somewhere, "oh I know this guy that is good to work with and he can ride horses without training" and the name gets stuck in the director or casting person's head to try them out and see if they're good in audition. It doesn't matter if he did it himself or not when the entire industry is structured around this sort of behavior. I work in fashion. Casting for models is not much different from casting for actors. Tbh all of entertainment, arts and advertising across the world functions this way. It's a lot of luck and networking. It's not based entirely on merit.

Ok I'll reserve my judgement since it sounds like he won't be prominent. Something about his acting style rubbed me completely wrong in previous shows and was almost enough to make me stop watching. Which is a shame because I tried to like him and even rewatched his scenes and read a lot of fan meta to see what I was missing... But... 🤷♀️

No but I just watched 3 different series back to back that he happened to be in (tteotm, mlc, bw) and I thought he was completely miscast in each one. I can tell he works hard and he probably has a perfectly fine personality. But by this point, he has a track record of casting directors ignoring his flaws in favor of i don't know what. Whatever they saw, i don't see. I have read enough of the novel to get an idea of his character. Maybe this time I'm wrong and he'll finally have a role that fits him? But forgive me for being wary of him cast in such a big budget project. Tteotm, mlc, and blue whisper were also big budget. He was best in mlc where at least he was serviceable and didn't stand out in a bad way like he did with the other two roles but that's faint praise for a 3rd ml.

No i only just started back reading all the threads after finishing tteotm, blue whisper and mlc.
...so you're saying he did get the role the same way he got his role in Hero Legends - A high profile lead actor spoke up for him. Well. I assume he still had to audition. So i guess there is that. I read parts of the novel. The only single way he fits the character description is he has pretty eyes. He's too tall, too big and isn't exactly nondescript because he stands out too much compared to the rest of the cast.

Why would I be jealous? I'm not an actor. I just think he doesn't suit the role and is leaning on connections with high profile actors to get into bigger projects. tbf all actors are trying to do this, but I hate it because the end product becomes less good. Imo his type of style and current level of strengths leads towards high action like a traditional wuxia where the focus is on fighting and not as much on acting. Or a modern cop procedural where he can either fight or recite facts. Xianxia requires far more acting and beautiful ethereal faces and body types because there is far less realism and the plot are all big fantastical themes. Of the entire cast, he sticks out as an outlier.

You do have a good point. I did love dc's bond but remember the controversy surrounding him. I'm just tired of giving less experienced actors a chance in big budget projects where I expect everyone to bring their A game and then get stuck having to see someone still with their training wheels on. If that's the case they should have run the mid-level drama gauntlet for longer. But I always find out later that they're friends with high profile people or they happened to do a project with so-and-so and was recommended, rather than getting in on their skill alone. It's frustrating. I admit I could possibly be exploding at XSY because he fits this pattern of nepotism and I frankly don't think he fits the look of the role or is ready as an actor. And I definitely don't lie the idea of encouraging actors to starve themselves to for roles that don't match their body type. But maybe he'll surprise me. I just became pissed when I heard he got his role in Hero Legends because of Cheng Yi and saw SLY as more of the same. I mean yeah maybe he's got a great personality but everything else is important too.

I'm not a FYL fan I'm just fed up with casting trends and don't think that high budget projects is the place for less experienced or talented actors to train. I don't deny that XSY works hard but he started as a singer and he has a lot of catching up to do to learn the craft of acting. And he's getting cast in costume stuff where he had to lose so much weight is clearly impacting his health because his physical frame can't support what is required. Why do i want to witness that? That's what lower budget series and web dramas are for until their acting improves enough that they can command an audience alone.

I'm not his fan. If I'm a fan of anyone I like lyx the most. I'm just frustrated at c-entertainment trends of shoving no name people into positions they're not ready for or where they have to destroy their bodies to fit into when the role can go to someone that's actually suited and waiting years for their opportunity. The only reason xsy got this role is because his relationships with high profile actors

I struggle to understand why xiao shunyao is cast in a more prominent role than Fang Yilun when the latter is better looking and a better actor. Is it because xsy made friends with high profile people like cheng yi that he's getting better roles? He's not good looking enough to play second ml and his bones are too big even though he's starving himself to lose weight. He literally looks like he's dying of hunger now, he's so skinny. How is that attractive? I can tell he works hard but that's just not enough. I get so angry that more talented and better looking actors can't get roles when well connected, low talent people get all the good things
