I actually think the opposite. I think him asking RSB to promise him shows that he's actually a man that is ready to go all in his duties and stand on business. He knows what he's doing is gonna eventually in some way hurt her and understand the consequences hence why he even had her promise to remember his good deeds. I don't think that means he was being indescisive or not ready to go all out, just him bracing for fallout or whatever may lead up. I don't think he expected everything to implode so quickly but he definitely knew the relationship was on borrowed time as we've consistently seen. This is also evident from the way they both lack some trust in each other.

I'm also looking forward to how things play out but I can't with the angst anymore. It's either she's actually gonna be mad or understand his reasons and then play up hating him for her family(I doubt that this is the case). I'm just ready for the capital arc and for LJL to go all out! Let's wrap this marriage drama up ASAP cause they're all getting on my nerves.l

I disagree with having him pay lol. A life was at stake and it's safe to say that RSB 100% would take the same course of action if she was in his shoes. From all their conversations and her knowing his identity and being aware that he was investigating the case, him going through with it shouldn't be a surprise and her not understanding his reasons for doing so like he did when it came to her would truly undermine her character! At the end of the day this is an Imperial order like you acknowledged! I have no doubt that they're gonna have him running around trying to win her back but I think it's really not needed and somewhat insulting to RSB.

Additionally! I very much disagree with you saying that LJL wanted to have his cake and eat it too. I strongly disagree with that part actually lol. He definitely knew that he couldn't have his cake and eat it too. This is evident in the conversation he had with bestie Lang and from the moment he regained his memories back. He knew it was gonna go to shit with him still investigating the Yang case! I just don't believe that he knew it would collapse this fast. From the moment he regained his memories he knew that whatever relationship he had with RSB would be immediately jeopardized hence the promise. Regardless, like he said to Lang, he wouldn't have been able to end things off easily or leave the family easily even if he wanted to. He damn near a Rong now lmaoooo from the way he was standing with them when Bai was being accused! He still needed them at that point in time I fear.

I haven't watched ep 19 yet cause I'm waiting for ep 20 to be released so it can flow well but after watching the trailer from ep 19, I can't understand people faulting LJL for leaving RSB.

Ever since he's got his memory back we've seen him constantly reaffirm that he will still be going on with the investigation of the yang case(that's quite literally his job), not to mention a life was at stake. If it were RSB in his position she'd easily take the same stance too and it'd be foolish for her to not understand why he moved the way he did especially with how smart her character is portrayed to be as well as how he understood that she had a reason for choosing yang even though they had their lil promise heartfelt moment.
Not to mention that she knew his identity from the beginning, she knew he was investigating the yang case cause we quite literally see them mention it in the family meeting in the 2nd episode, she knows he's as cunning as she is from what we've seen along with her knowing that he would go to YNW's grave. Also he literally had her promise to forgive him and not resent him once if he makes a mistake.... for how smart her character is she would've seen this coming a mile away and if she didn't, it's definitely the writers trying to dumb her down for the sake of the plot.

I think we're forgetting that both LJL and RSB do not fully trust each other. They're both cunning and manipulative!

RSB and that Yan dude are definitely gonna get married or engaged. I'm basing this off the trailer of the show where there was a scene where they were in a bedroom together and she was walking away and he gave her a backhug to stop her. I'm guessing it's from her not feeling any love for him.

From another comment that I saw it seems like we have a capital arc to get through and based off another we might have ML and FL separated for a while before they reunite.

Granny definitely plays a role in the animosity in the family however I can't justify the sisters plotting against RSB (I mean having her kidnapped by someone running a human meat butchery? CRAZY WORK). This is all based off my assumption but I'm sure that if they all banded together and confronted grandmother about this favoritism it would've held more weight and even if grandmother didn't give in, a good conversation with RSB about how they feel and how they want to be acknowledged would've definitely had my girl finding ways to make sure they're all banding together to run the tea plantations.
At the end of the day they were still gonna have to elect the smartest one to lead the family and I fear it still would have been RSB.
