it is only 8 episodes. there are more to come (according to the plot) so maybe thats why you feel like many plot holes for now. i do like the pacing. sometimes slow burn can be tiring to watch. the pacing is fast, but it is not fast enough to make me breathless. there are still rooms to breath. at least to me.

ive seen some ppl still confused about Yanrui's behaviour/attitude. just to remind everyone, Yan Rui is an infamous corrupt official favored by emperor. so him playing with women, drinking till drunk, harming innocents, being too generous when it comes to spending money, scam the rich for grains etc, those are all his facade in order to carry out the real mission. even with Qingyuan, he still keep that persona. there are more about him that still a mystery and not yet revealed so stay tuned!
