I want to apologize to the writer a little bit for some of the comments I wrote earlier. This show being a makjang makes me want to use the FF button so much especially if I have seen the YT clips ahead of the fully released subbed videos. I say this because when I watched the scenes I have skipped I have missed some of the point you are trying to make or set up, which like IO post rage, now makes me watch this show with less rage (kinda like how Hulk returns to being the gentle Bruce Banner). Reading the comments here and on other community forums made me realize certain things (after rewatching without FF’ng):
For anyone here who has propagated a cactus, TK and IO are the same. It is the same shoot coming from same plant (I saw someone comment on dramabeans saying TK is a door mat. Well hello?! IO was pretty much the same with how she just tolerated everything. These characters need to have a flaw and the writers chose this one. BN made the same comment about TK- he is too good to a fault). Just as how TK easily forgave YD after hearing what she said and fully seeing and understanding her situation, IO forgave the family when they apologized specifically for the one thing she was being mad about (lie aside), it was them continually ignoring her pain. I FF the the scene when they were having the family talk in ep 38 (prior to JH barging in) and I saw IO’s expression of surprise and gratitude when grandma said they should all respect her feeling towards the matter because it involves her bio kid after all (I was washing the dishes when I was rewatching this so I cannot FF hehe). I think if JH did not barge in, we would have less of the howling and she would have processed this much earlier on. And just like TK who is quick to apologize when he realizes he is the wrong IO did the same thing by seeking YD and her family rather than waiting for the right time. Another point is her checking the room with the look similar to her son’s - is she really gone? (That was like a copy-paste scene for me)
When she said she hated YD, I think (and some members probably mentioned this already too) she was mostly projecting all this anger as the person she probably hated the most was herself. She mentioned it to YD before that she saw herself in YD when they first met at the food cart. So when YD also said that hearing her words strengthened her resolve to go through the pregnancy, she again was able to see herself and probably some of the initial struggle she had when she became pregnant, and then the similar struggle when you as person just want to be with the one you love despite the circumstances you have.
Just like the rest of you, I also had the same reaction with Gong’s Kumbayah moment: Really?! Just like that?! But of all them I think grandma is the one who gave the most genuine apology that she probably has been wanting to do for a time but really had no opportunity to do so. We have been seeing her having a change of heart towards TK since he rescued her when she got lost and she realized that YD was right, he would really treat her right if he was given the chance. And the scene where she saw the older kids argue blaming each other why their mom left also probably made her realize what her faults were (it was her influence as to why they also did not fully consider her as their mom) similar to when she had a confrontation with IO when she told her if she had not learned her lesson with setting TK up for marriage (I regretted FF this scene because SJ really had showed that face of disappointment and I love it - she did not even have any lines- when she heard she was not even in the list of candidates). Writers wrote their exchange in a way where grandma also recognized that she also is becoming aware that she influenced this kind of thinking to her daughter-in-law. Thus when YD called her just to ask her to come pick up IO she got the very subtle hint and got off her high horse. And from all of the Gong’s I think her apology is the one IO wanted to hear the most.

I get what you mean with the FL keeping it minimal regarding skinship but I won’t be surprise if AJH is being cautious too. He had been on the receiving end of that drama (knetz speculated that it was the FL on his last drama that led to his divorce (I had not seen that show but apparently they had good chemistry). They both had to issue threats to sue
This week didn’t go as bad as I thought it would be. Honestly it was cathartic for me (as a viewer). Everybody was just hashing it out (even with YD speaking her mind and being as polite as she could). I have not watched the full episode yet but based on YT Yd did her therapeutic magic and for some reason the rest of the Gongs apologized to IO. I think the histrionics are done (i hope). Based on the ending scene it will now start shifting to the last conflict resolution, them working as a family unit against JH (as for some reason this supposedly Mensa member just took IO actions literally and is like “I’m here to get my kid, she was handing her to me yesterday”- not a direct translation, just what I have inferred from the body language and the very little vocabulary I can pick up. Grandma was starting to beat him up lol).
I honestly like the little snippets of dialogue and scenes where the writers are letting us know that they have not totally forgone their initial message and purpose of the show: -CM and SJ at least revisiting the sperm donation route based on how they see TK is with Ha Neul and how grandma is slowly starting to have a change of mindset. -JM an HW did not have a lot of recent scenes but having that scene where HW having his day off and refusing to “get paid” so that JM can work at home is a very real situation that a lot of couples face nowadays. I like him making a firm stand - he is your son too, take care of him. A little similar with TK being more active in his day off since Yd stays full time at home.
I get it, compromise has to be made somewhere with the pressure from the suits upstairs and the response of the local viewers. A lot of international viewers like me was initially drawn to what this show’s initial plot and was applauding the writers for wanting to tackle such a huge societal issue, however their target population is still their local viewers. To me it seems they are still not fully ready for it (especially if most of them still wishes for Ha Neul to be Tk’s bio kid).
On a different note: How exactly rich are the Gongs?! I know TK said before they are not much of a chaebol because they are not even in the top 30 companies but that was their summer house(that no one uses)?! I must have been working wrong all my life 😂😂😂😂 TK should have lived there instead of the annex hehe

Overall it just focused on familial relations to be on the mend. And despite the stunt IO did, she was the one who slapped Jh with some truth today, telling him that YD would not have done the lie in the first place if he acted right the first time around.
This/these writer/s…..I cannot…. This is why I can’t break the cycle. They me give anxiety one week, then they lighten it up the next. I am honestly looking forward to grandma spending time at TK’s next week. And despite the stunt that JH pulled today he has not realized that eventually these people will unite against him. It does take a village to raise a child. Maybe he should join SJ on a temple retreat (shaved head and everything).
the TK and YD dynamic today was the one we were hoping to see at ep 34 ( where they are facing everyone and everything as a united front). It took 2 weeks to get here but better late than never.
-Birds of the same feather are the same (obsessive) birds, thus they flock together and in this case too f**k together (well at least before). If the preview is accurate Jh is just exhausting not only us but himself as well. TK is in the process of being disowned and YD already told her mom pretty much the same thing so get a hint (and a one-way ticket to the US). SJ to me today looked really pathetic. Girl, when are you going to get that it will never be you, again. This is the only thing I will thank IO right now, really rubbing it in her face this time around.
- YD is the apple that fell from the BN tree: they really don’t make wise decisions under pressure. At least they realize it afterwards (BN hopefully soon).
- i just wish all of this will be done this week so the entire family can really become the childcare avengers and just move forward.
