The brother is locked up in the Princess' prison, tortured and maimed. The father regains his wits, the brother however is left lame. But they are still alive and they get reunited

I am cackling when I think of it. Half-sister loses her fiance, runs away from home after her mother's death. Ends up in the Li household and gets discovered and recognized by princess after she overhears sensitive info. So, she gets locked up in the Princess' prison and tortured. Finally, half-blinded, she's saved. But she has gone mad, and is in a dissociative state. The cousin loses her virginity to the sister's fiance. She becomes his concubine but leads a miserable life. She's not given any attention by her husband and she's treated poorly in their household. And, YES, it is partly a result of Li's scheming.

The target is mostly Meng what's her name. It trips the Li brothers up too, because their scheme doesn't succeed but there's no direct consequence for them, as there is in the drama

but it complicates the plot in other ways
